Iron Bru understands that Scunthorpe United have been dealt a further injury blow ahead of the new season, with the news that star striker Kevin Van Veen is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.
It is believed the Dutchman has seen a specialist this week and is set to undergo surgery in early September.
Whilst it is not yet clear how long the injury will keep him out of action, it is thought the Iron’s talisman is facing at least two months on the sidelines.
Van Veen finished as the Iron’s top scorer with 15 goals last season, despite missing a number of games through injury last August and the premature end to the campaign in March.
The 29 year old played 60 minutes of the Iron’s friendly win over Hull City U23s, but did not feature in the 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend.
