can we risk another James Perch? (or Ian Ormondroyd for those with a longer memory)

But we could do with a Steve Baines for those with a longer, longer memory!

” Basher Baines ” and Les Hunter, a formidable combination back in the John Duncan/ Allan Clarke era. Steve went on to become a pretty decent ref too.

I only remember Baines as a shit referee.

We have not had a lot of luck with older free agents recently it’s true but it really can’t get any worse.

“Cassidy, in this case we have no choice”
I’m not disputing that WG,as you say, it’s our only option. What I’m advocating is being careful in our choice. For instance you suggest:-
“Calum Woods at RB. Woods played 12 games last season in lg 1 with two assists so he must still have something to offer.”
Now I don’t know why he only played 12 games but could he be another Clarke?
That’s the cause of my concern, we’ve a habit of paying players for little return (e.g. Hammill) we can do without any more wage thieves.

If there is a fitness doubts new players need to be on a pay/play contract then there is an incentive not to be a permacrock.

I do wonder what goes on in some people’s heads. Listen to virtually any retired footballer and they will tell you that they were never fully fit after their first game, they play most of their careers with some sort of injury.

Take your approach and you’re more likely to get players playing with an injury and letting down the side because they’re worried about getting paid & putting food on their kids’ table.

Cassidy, we could get them in the club then for a week and put them through their paces in training and if they come through and look fit enough, contract to end of the season.

No other option now…it’s either that or keep going with these kids in which we’ll most certainly be relegated anyway.

At this point, what exactly is there to lose ?

If we look at said players and they pass getting put through their paces in training/practice games…it’s a win, win for me.

We need to do something…that much is obvious.

    In Swanny’s case – money!
