Mark Lillis has agreed a deal to become Scunthorpe United’s assistant manager, according to Reach PLC journalist Charlie Wilson.

It is understood that Lillis, who was assistant manager at Glanford Park between 1996 and 2000, is set to make a sensational return to the Iron and will become Neil Cox’s assistant ahead of the new campaign.

Lillis recently admitted on the Iron Bru podcast that he would jump at the chance to return to the club if the opportunity arose, claiming his experience would benefit the Iron’s younger players.

The pair played together for Scunthorpe in the early 90s, before Cox made a £400,000 move to Aston Villa.
