Scunthorpe United are believed to be one of four clubs interested in signing Jordan Roberts following his release from Ipswich Town.
The East Anglian Daily Times report that Scunthorpe have joined Salford, Gillingham and Doncaster in a four way tussle for the 26 year old free agent following a two year stint at Portman Road.
Roberts spent the second half of last season at League One side Gillingham, where he scored 2 goals in ten appearances and Gills boss Steve Evans has admitted he is hoping to secure the services of the 6ft 1″ attacker on a permanent basis.
“We got significant help from Ipswich Town and Wolves to take those lads (on loan) but I have spoken to them both and they loved every minute of it,” Evans said.
“My chats with them will continue over the next week or so. They are certainly players we would absolutely welcome working with again, for sure.”
Roberts was signed by former Scunthorpe boss Paul Hurst during his spell at Portman Road and is said to be on the Iron’s list of summer targets, with the club yet to do any business with the start of the season just six weeks away.
