I find it a bit odd we let Sutton leave, especially given how versatile he was. Swann and co then decide to re sign Clarke as captain even though he’ll most likely be out for 70% of the season.

but Crewe didn’t have a team full of kids Burny, Olly Lancashire, Eddie Nolan, Daniel Powell, Chris Porter, Paul Green and Nicky Hunt were all experienced players.

They had experience in their squad but from the middle of the season towards the end, the team picked was largely kids.

Songo’o was a decent enough player but he suffered his fair share of injuries too. Is there one out there who experienced, without a club who doesn’t pick up injuries ever week or two ?

If there is we need him !!

I get what you mean, it appears we’ve gone down the quantity over quality route. I’d rather have 4 strikers who are a bit more of known quantities, instead we have 6 or 7 and they’re all of a similar standing.

You never know our unknowns may turn out to be the next crop of top talents we sell on in the future, awfully risky though taking the approach we’re doing.

Swann seems to think you can replicate Crewe Alexandra and field a team full of kids but the big difference is that that’s been their ethos now for years and years and they’re fully geared up for that approach.

Completely changing tack and doing what we’re doing is starting to give me nightmares for what could be in store.

If, and this is a big if, we sign an experienced CB, RB and Gk before a ball is kicked then we’ll be ok but a young team like this needs an experienced spine. Expecting to do what Crewe is doing all i one go is more than a bit dicey.

There must be players out there on free’s we can look at surely ?. I hope something is done anyway, if not then I genuinely do fear for us.

Fingers crossed it all comes together…we seriously need experience now though.

Already 2 CB’s down, RB down, best striker down and possibly best midfielder heading out. And into the mix we have a shite GK who keeps dropping clangers.

I see a top 6 finish this season.

On a more serious note, if we sell Eisa and use that money to sign 3 players then so be it, if we sell him and sit on the money, I’ll have a serious problem with moving him on.

Now, if we’re clever with the money..sign a CB, RB and possibly a GK, if Swann comes to his sense then fair enough.

Come to think of it, you take Van Veen out upfront…we have no depth up there either. Be an interesting old season this.

I was optimistic but with these injuries it’s dawned on me that the strength and depth just isn’t there. I think I was kidding myself that the kids would be enough but now the season’s starting and the reality is hitting home with these injuries I fear I may have been extremely naive.

I’ll be crossing everything we get a few players in at least before the season starts.

Iron awe, still doesn’t change the fact we desperately need a CB and RB. Swann should never come to the decision we don’t need a GK either, that should be the managers choice, not the chairman’s.

Les, I think he’ll start Spence and Vincent in CM personally, seen as they’re CM’s by trade. I don’t like Gillead in cm, we tried that last season a few times playing him centrally and he’s too lightweight…he’s better out wide.

Gillead’s a good player but he’s hardly a tackler/battler and with the back line we’re going to have, we need all the protection we can possibly field to protect them.

Eisa and Gillead will be out wide for me with Colclough and Dales as back up.

As it stands though we’ll have a complete back line of kids with 3 of the 4 not even playing that many games in league 2 before. Rowe and Cordner haven’t played any. Bedeau needs games and Watson is fragile to say the least.

Not feeling too confident at the minute.

Really worried for us. The little experience we did have within our squad are ALL currently out with injuries.

Van Veen nailed on striker is crocked for the next 2-3 months.

Mcgahey and Onariase out, leaves us with Cordner and Bedeau as starters with young Charlie Barks as back up.

Clarke is perma crocked. By the way, going by what I’ve seen on twitter from what people were suggesting is that either McGahey or Clarke are out injured for a considerable time too.

We had a player on trial who I think was a RB who came on second half so that would suggest Clarke is the player who’s injury is a lot more serious than first thought.

We can’t exactly play Bedeau at RB now with 2 CB’S now out. That would leave us with Barks and Cordner with no other CB on the bench.

No doubt We need to sign a CB and RB pretty sharpish or we’ll be in deep shit.

Van Veens obviously a massive loss but least we have options upfront to call upon, nowhere near as good as him but least they’re there to use.

Another complete calamity by Watson again, he’s just nowhere near good enough…with a young back line we need an experienced, reliable GK.

If Swann doesn’t budge and sign one…I genuinely fear for us.

With Watson it’s getting to the point where it’s mistake after mistake, he’s just not learning.

Put it this way, if it does become a legal matter, I wouldn’t back Max Bell.

Max is forever taking pot shots..it was a matter of time before people down at GP lost their cool and fired back at him.

As a club, we could well do without this crap.

What made Max shoot his mouth off when the club had agreed to sell his books ?. I don’t get him at times. Somebody needs to have a word in his ear because this isn’t the first time.

I’ve said in the past that I didn’t agree with Swann taking fans to court but he’s one I wouldn’t mind Swann putting through the ringer, he’s always shouting his mouth off.

Max Bell’s a pain in the back end.

Uptheiron, this squad is young, is it not ?. Everybody is happy to get behind them, with the only 2 positions causing concern is RB and Gk.

That wouldn’t be the case would it if all of us wasn’t prepared to give youth a chance !

Most people I’ve spoken to can’t wait to see how the younger players to get on. This is the most exciting season for a while, which some may say isn’t a lot but still…people are really optimistic.

Too many times we’ve gone down the route of paying older players fair wedges and have them go through the motions. This is a really refreshing change.

Most people are embracing it Uptheiron, so…why don’t you calm yourself down a tad ?

if the centre halves can work together 3 at the back is known to work well

Cox has said on several occasions already that we will be playing 4/4/2. It’s the formation we’ve played in the friendlies so far.

I’m not concerned with left back but right back could be a bit of a problem. I have faith in Jai Rowe though, he looks to have something. I just hope he stays fit for the most part.

I’m surprised Hornshaw hasn’t had more of a look in anyway to be honest. I’m pretty sure he played against Notts County in a cup game, got MOM while looking a really handy player in the process and never saw anything from him again.

In my opinion he’s good enough for league 2. Vincent is supposed to be talented. Hallam is definitely good enough, whether he can keep himself fit. Beestin will be good enough.

Spence will be good enough. Pugh not too sure about, not really seen much of him. We have Rayyner Silva who’s supposed to have impressed so far during pre season, they think very highly of him down at GP.

I think we’ll be ok in CM personally but it’s right back which bothers me. Jai Rowe looks a good player but if Clarke is injured, that means McGahey will get pushed out there as needed for back up. No doubt he’ll be steady there but he doesn’t offer much going forward.

Left hand side will be fine with O’Malley and Butroid. Butroid is plenty good enough and O’Malley is a good little player.

I forgot about Charlie Barks as well, he’s another highly rated youngster. A really solid, young CB who scored v’s Donny.

Apart from RB and Gk, I’m fairly happy. It will be a rough bumpy season at times with the youngsters but I’ve been wanting the club to give youngsters a chance for a while now and never seemed to.

It will be refreshing to see younger legs with energy and enthusiasm, rather then seeing older players plodding around to pick up a pay cheque at the end of the week.

There will be a lot of if, but’s and maybe’s with all these younger players but I’m excited to see how they all do. This makes a refreshing change.

“But yeah Goode never showed any signs of potential here, his hoofball style suits Northampton though, confirmed by him charging up field to take every throw.”

Pele Goode captained a team to promotion to league one, earned himself a 4yr contract, 1+ million contract to a top end championship club in 1, yes, 1 season.

To show what he has this early on would indicate to any body with any sense that he always had the ability…he’s made the progress he has in 1 season, not 10…you moron.

I did say you could join me in having questionable football judgement but you can sit in the corner with a dunce’s cap on lol

I do recall Burney saying Ivan Toney was no good though

In the first spell, he was less than impressive but picked it up at the back end of it. I don’t think any body really rated him at that point…you included. You used to rip into him, we all did.

Lol funny you picked that as an example, you daft sod !

That must mean your questionable then as well pele, you can join me old boy !

Collins won’t put any pressure on as he’s clearly not ready.

Funny Burney, I can’t remember you saying how good he was when he was with us

This isn’t even about me, it’s about the club mismanaging another player to let another team profit.

If you’re convinced you’re right and I’m lying, you could always search yourself.

Nothing to do with hindsight regarding Goode…he was clearly good enough but wasn’t managed correctly.

Anyway, he’s gone now. No point in keep going on about it. Hopefully the new CB will be a good player.

Cassidy, your post doesn’t make sense. The same goode goes to Northampton. Their manager/coaching staff have complete faith in him, play him week and in week out, he leads said team to promotion..he then goes for a reported 1 million quid + add ons to a top end championship club on a 4yr contract.

Nothing wrong with the players ability, that’s purely a complete lack of man management on our side.

You could tell he had ability. Most on here said he was rubbish and was glad to see him go.

    Now look !

I always said we should have played him instead of McArdle. Goode had pace, decent passer and was always decent in the air. All he needed was somebody at GP to have faith in him and play him.

Similar thing happened with Godden. No doubt we should have signed him up on a lengthy contract and loaned him out to get games.

We really need to stop doing this. Hopefully with Cox and Lillis here now we won’t do such stupid things.

Didn’t Neil say the other day 2 or 3 players had got injuries but none were serious.

Cox gave another statement today post match. Those two definitely have calf injuries and won’t be fit for the next two matches. Cox stated he has to “careful with them”….in other words, wrap them up in cotton wool.

Clarke will be playing catch up yet again due to being out pre season. Hardly ideal, especially as he has a shocking injury record and he just happens to be club captain.

Fingers crossed after this injury he remains fit an raring to go for rest of the season.

Who impressed most against Hull reserves then ?

Mcgahey and Clarke both didn’t feature because both currently have calf problems. Cox doesn’t think they’ll be ready for the next 2 friendly matches.

Don’t know weather it is the same Luton fan, that WG knows, there can’t be that many in scunny, but when I spoke to my Luton fan mate,he really rates Jarvis, says not really given s chance, big awkward, and 2 good feet, just saying.

I was told something similar to what you have been told. Biglefttoe is going primarily on his stats, which i admit hardly set the world alight but he’s supposed to have good ability.

I know Luton Fans thought he was a good enough player but because they had the options they had at the time, he just didn’t get enough chances.

Fingers crossed he fits in the squad/team and is hungry for another chance in the football league. He’s supposed to be a mobile targetman who’s technically pretty good…from what I was told he’s got the ability to play this level and has some quality but according to the Luton fan I was talking to just needs a fair chance to prove his worth and bed himself down.

I wouldn’t be automatically have him pencilled in as an u23 player from the off. If has the ability he’s supposed to have and feels settled here with games under his belt, you just never know…may be a dark horse.

As said above though, even if he scores say 7-10 goals and creates space for Van Veen, I’d be happy with that.

I appreciate that we are supposed to give young keepers time, but not sure young Collins looked like he even has potential to progress. Need a keeper desperately.

He needs loaning out or kept in u23’s….he’s no where near being even classed as a viable back up option !

Big left toe, I’d keep an eye on Jarvis. I suspect he may make more of an impact than what you’re suggesting. A luton fan on twitter said that during his time there, even in his limited game time that he thought he looked a really capable player.

It was only down to Hylton , Lee and others being in such good form that he didn’t get more game time…he scored a few in the cups and according to that fan, he thinks he’ll easily score at this level given game time.

I know youtube clips are not exactly reliable but he looks a pretty tidy player….we needed a targetman as well, he’s different to all the others we’ve got.

In regards to players going out. I think Colclough will go. Dales may stay due to probably not being on a hefty contract and he’s fairly versatile.

Olomola’s an interesting one though…will this season be his season?.
