Harry kane’s play style is that of a false 9, so why doesn’t Southgate just play him as an attacking midfielder behind Watkins so it leaves him to play his natural game while also having an actual striker up front ?. Stick Palmer on the right with Gordon on the left and play Bellingham next to Rice/Mainoo.

Dump Trippier and play Arnold at RB and Walker at LB.

I still can’t understand why Southgate didn’t play Mitchell more and have him bedded in knowing Shaw is held together with duct tape. Mitchell played well all season for Palace and is a natural LB after all.

Southgate’s decisions are poor to say the least.

If they’re deemed worthy of a starting spot then why are they coming in on trial as opposed to being signed immediately?

Of course we’ve picked out players who are deemed good enough for a first team slot. I’d rather that than just get any old player here. All we’re doing is running the rule over players who Turnbull and co THINK will be good enough for the first team, but obviously want to know more about them first.

Is that not what inviting trialist players is all about ?

Clubs up and down the country for the most part have been doing that very same thing for years, have they not ?

Also for the fans moaning about us taking old players on trial, Turnbull has said countless times and again the other day that we’re looking for young energetic players as we already have experience at the club.

There will be no players coming here on trial looking for a last pay day. Calm down !

Give it a rest. Gk to come in shortly and it sounds like the RB, and two wide players will come in via trialist players. There are loads and loads of good players who have been released.

We have targeted 5 players who are coming in as trialists who are all deemed worthy/good enough of a first team spot, so they must be of a certain standard.

Plus we’ll have money left for the loan market. CB we’re set, as we are at LB and up front. Only really RB, out wide and maybe a genuine big athletic defensive midfielder short of having a good squad.

I hope they come out the other side, but can’t for the life of me believe they’re going to get the needed £1.5 mill.

Southgate from what I read the other day is the best paid manager who rakes in close to 5 million a year.

The FA board who make the decisions need stringing up.

How do you come to the conclusion Carlton is a better player despite never seeing him play and him having a worse goal scoring record than Elliott?

    Been on that pipe again

Minute to goal ratio when taking into consideration the chances he had, Butler said he was the best finisher in the league last season. Putting all that to one side he was playing on the wing and also set up a lot of goals. How many assists did he have to his name, was it 10 or 12, I can’t remember.

Elliot will score a bagful, he’s in the league below us remember.

Carlton is better than Elliot. Whitehall is better than elliot and we’ve signed a young up and coming targetman. A targetman we desperately needed.

Butterfield will be the bigger miss, but once he started to slow down he was ineffective in the second half of last season. Butterfield became a luxury player towards the end. There’s a reason we never usually came back after going behind.

I liked Butterfield a lot and technically was the best player hands down in this league, but that was counted by much worse players who had more energy who got around the pitch better.

Harry Kane annoys me the most. Southgate should grow a pair and tell him to stop roaming when we’re under the cosh and stick up top. How many times do we have the ball looking to clear and he’s NEVER actually up front to hit ?

The same thing has been happening for years. Good enough first half, but once Serbia upped it we reverted back to Southgate’s number one tactic of “trying not to lose/draw” instead of actually going out and trying to score more, same situation with with Harry Kane…this has been happening for years.

Southgate should have been dumped years ago. Klopp I doubt would want the job, but if I was the FA I’d be paying him a fortune and try to talk him around to the idea.

Butler may opt to play 3 central midfielders. I find it odd that he’s described as box to box even though we need a midfield spoiler.

We should prepare for the keeper and right back to be more Lidl and Aldi than M&S or Waitrose.

That was always going to be the case. Fitzy and Barrows will be first choice so we’re not realistically going to sign top end well known players when they won’t be classed as first team starters. In my opinion it makes no sense.

The same people who were slagging the club off for spending too much are now the very same people who are moaning about the quality of squad players.

You can’t win with some people. If we were to sign top end players at this level for non 1st team places then we would be no better off and would end up spending the same amount of money than we did last season.

It’s the wide players that we need to be spending the money on. Law and Roberts are held together with duct tape. I’d be surprised if either of them played more than 20 games a piece.

I’d be happy with a youngish promising GK as back up and a hardworking, solid RB.

Lol, Bad Apple?! And he accuses others of being idiotic and ‘on crack’.

If anybody knew Badapple then you wouldn’t be stupid enough just to think he would leave the forum and not have other accounts he posts on. Badapple had a track record of such behaviour.

It wouldn’t even surprise me if he currently had more than one.

As far as signings go i just dont feel overly enthused by this one

Whitehall and Carlton will be first choice. Who did you expect we would sign as a back up option ?

Perfect signing really. We needed a different rotational option up top. Billed as more of a targetman who’s supposed to be fairly strong from what I read and stands at nearly 6ft2, so he’s a decent size.

We were never going to sign another top striker when we have Whitehall and Carlton here who will be first choice. This signing makes sense, as he’s young and eager to impress and we needed a targetman type striker who’s capable of holding the ball up anyway.

A gk, Few wingers, RB and an out and out central midfield scrapper. I think we’ll be just about there.

Is that for the Iron Bar WG? Or the bar under the Clugston stand?

The new equipment is for the cellar and bar area within the Iron Bar. I do however recalling Michelle stating that the new head of catering will be bringing new equipment for the catering points.

This new head of hospitality/catering is the real deal and did a stellar job at Hull Kr. This is all in very capable hands. Drinks are top be improved, along with the food offerings. Another Scunthorpe based firm called Cookie People have signed a deal with us to sell their products on matchdays.

    Things are coming together nicely.

The ground is looking very fresh, The catering side of things is to be drastically improved upon and we’re to get solar panelling fitted in around a months time which is going to lessen the electric bills.

How the hell has this all happened this quickly from where we were ?

Crazy really when you think about it it.

cleveland was hilarious. I remember in one home game he ran that quick he forgot to take the ball with him, but a matter of seconds later he ran from the half way line, taking on 4 or 4 players and sticking it in the top corner.

So exciting to watch because you never knew what you were going to get.

What we need imo is more Mrs Butterfield’s to get it out there.

Badpple, you can stop attempting to wind people up now. She’s another who isn’t exactly honest . Implying the club didn’t want him, but forgot to mention the 3 contract offers, with one being a player coach role ?

Devastated she’s not still around !

Who else would you like to see back? (Limited to those that are still mobile enough)
I’ll throw in Murphy, Cliffy, Dawson, Hayes & Sharp.

Ramon Nunez who we loaned from Leeds back in the day. He didn’t play many games, but you could tell he was a top player nevertheless. I’d throw in Lee Hodges too if he’s not already playing a part.

That would be for the board to decide. Tahina Akther would be an example of the kind of person I was thinking of. (Perhaps on a more permanent basis though?)

I read on twitter from Matt that she quit and so Michael Abey on the 6th of June. Elliot resigned on the 10th of June. Not sure what’s happened, but something must have kicked off.

Elliot’s stance on Hilton was worrying to say the least and is rumoured to have kicked up a fuss when Michelle offered the others shares for money they put in. Not quite sure what got his back up, they all put money in and he funded a training kit.

Good move him resigning as he seemed a bit of a disruptive influence. Agree with Cassidy that there is scope there to get knowledgeable people involved at board level, who would further add to what we have.

    I’m sure Michelle knows 1 or 2.

With a match day squad of 18 I still think 21 is tight

I agree. Michelle did say though there would be money left to bring in loans as and when needed to supplement the squad. I think we’ll be fine. Ideally though I’d like us to bring in two strikers because in this league, I think a genuine targetman comes in handy. In certain games last season we struggled when it got bogged down in midfield and we didn’t have a big lump to go direct to.

Whitehall isn’t too bad in that role, but it’s not really his game.

I’d like the two higher priority signings to be wide players. I have no faith in Law staying/keeping it and Roberts is a bit dicey to say the least.

One name I did see kicking about on twitter about a possible striker we could be looking at as a trialist is Johnathon Hooper A.K.A JJ Hooper. 30yr old who was playing at Blyth Spartans last season and netted 11 in 25 games. Out of contract too.

Michelle and Buter said we were looking to go in with a squad of 21 players. We currently have 15 on the books, including Carlton.

So we’ll be looking for another 6. We’ll need a back up striker, Back up GK, back up RB/CB, 2 wingers and a genuine defensive midfielder.

Shrimpton’s more box to box, Beestin and scales are more forward thinking which only leaves Clunan who’s a genuine defensive midfielder.

When we cover those positions, we’ll be fine. Michelle mentioned Butler really wants another two which sound more higher priority signings and got the impression the other four will come from a number of trialists we’re bringing in.

Michelle did mention an influx of trialists would be coming in so these number of games would be a reflection of that. Also of course the current players and the few to come in on perm deals.

I suspect a few of these games will be solely for trialists and a few first team players.

New assistant due in a month’s time, plus Beestin and Boyce have both signed on, but not announced it yet. Solar panelling is to be installed in a few months time which will cut the electricity bill.

All in all some good info. Butler has targeted 2 more signings which are more higher priority signings which he really, really wants and the others they hope will come from a stream of trialists. There will be some of the budget left if we need any back ups via the loan market.

All in all a very worthwhile interview.
