Could he/she go down to GP then and provide some articles and match reports?
Maybe the sort of thing that you used to do Bob?

    Ha Ha ….nice one.

I know the Scunny edition has been a weekly issue for a few years now, but I am very surprised the the Grimsby one is still a daily.
Over the last couple of years or so, it has risen in price from 55p to 75p, 95p, £1.15, £1.35 and to its current £1.55. Nothing in it that you cant find on the ‘net’. All their footy news appears to be taken from forums etc.
Somebody needs to make a decision and put it out of its misery.

It all began when the Scunny Tel offices closed and it’s now run from Grimsby. Try to find junior football tables and results in the Scunny Tel nowadays, they don’t give a stuff about our sport round this area , just the cod head way, always been very arrogant IMO.

Come on … do a bit of homework. The telegraph has had no representation (or premises) in Grimsby for years. It is all run (and printed) in the Leicester area I believe.
When I rang a number up (to give them a story about an event) it was a reporter based in Scunthorpe that answered!

📅 PRE-SEASON: The Iron’s final away game of pre-season will see them travel to face Grantham Town on Wednesday, July 26th (7.30pm kick-off)
The Iron’s two home games in pre-season will be confirmed in due course.
    #UTI #IRON”

It needs confirming where ‘home’ is/will be.

    Taken from ‘the Fishy’

Scunthorpe council leader just on Humberside
-Did not know about a new ground , just that the 2 signs have been erected on the site .
    – A new ground might be a good idea there
-when asked if the council are publicly backing it his reply was ‘absolutely not ‘

A stark contrast to Hiltons claims that the council are ‘on board ‘

It’s going to get messy next week .

Bury and Macclesfield were supposedly to have died but look at them now, Oldham to boot, Andy Burnham leading a task force to buy the ground back trying to raise the £6 million it will take. Shouldn’t we be looking at the same I’m sure there’s local business men who could get it started.

Bury are just awaiting the liquidation to be confirmed. Dont believe anything you read about them being back …. they aren.t.

Not many relegated clubs keep the same manager for the following season (unless your Grimsby … Neil Woods 2010/11).

    Or Nigel Adkins in 2008.

As I stated , not many do …. but how many have when relegated out of the football league?
…. and yes,(before anybody mentions it) Darryl Clarke did with Bristol Rovers, taking them back up in the 2015 play off final, although he was only appointed in March 2014.

I don’t want Keith Hill sacked as I think he is doing an excellent job for your club (well I would say that wouldn’t I). But, has PS given Lee Turnbull total control in regards to this department.
I guess it will all become clear in the quite immediate future.

I mentioned quite a while ago that I didn’t believe that Keith Hill would be in charge next season regardless of what both he and the (ex) chairman claimed.
If relegation is confirmed today, will he even be in charge for Mondays home game with Stevenage?
Crewe were relegated last Saturday and dispensed with the services of their manager (David Artell) on the following Monday.
Not many relegated clubs keep the same manager for the following season (unless your Grimsby … Neil Woods 2010/11).
I could be wrong but I have a hunch that LT will already have a few ‘irons in the fire’ (see what I did there) regarding next season and that Keith Hill wont be part of it.

Just down the road (Grimsby), ..there is a goalie out of contract at the end of the season.
James McKeown has been at Grimsby for 10 seasons and will be looking for a new club for the upcoming one (just a thought)

    regards .. Bob (the Mariner)

Not sure many will be in favour of allowing Cods on here taking the piss awaywego. Why give them the opportunity to rub our noses in it? If it entertains you seeing them do it on their forum, good for you. I’m happy with the thought of a load of them thinking they’ll just waltz on here with a witty put down, only to be thwarted by having to set up an account. That’s if they’re intelligent enough to be able to set up an account ;)

It might be that there may already be some ‘Cods’ on here that are intelligent enough to have been able to set up an account!
Also …. some of them may not be the type to want to rub ‘noses in it’.

I’m off to work now so will post later on this evening.

I dont believe for one moment that the loan will be wiped off in June. If that was the case, every club would have took it.

I can see major changes come the end of the season. I cannot see Keith Hill being here next season regardless of what he and Swann say. Practically all,if not all of the squad will be released whether they have contracts remaining or not.
A very tough future is coming.

My excuses for going are A: we didn’t have a game B: my mate is a big Scunny supporter C: I wanted to glorify in their current plight.

I met my buddy at the Sands Venue stadium and was duly charged £5 to enter the car park. We proceeded to walk to the front of the ground which was waterlogged in many places (probably needed the drainage sorting out …. but that would cost money)
We went to the ticket office and there was a bloke in there who hadn’t been for a while (there are plenty like that at Scunny) and was buying a 2022 calendar. ‘most of the players in it aren’t here anymore’ said the woman behind the counter. The bloke said he wouldn’t know many of them anyway. ‘maybe these two gents would know some of them’ she replied … pointing to me and my mate. ‘I haven’t got a clue’ I said. I so wanted to ask if John McAtee played for them, I really did….. but I was in a hornet’s nest.
Anyway, we walked into the ground ………… and what a depressing sight greeted me. We think Blundell Park is bad, but by jaysus, this place looks tired and neglected ……. it really does. A lick of paint would most definitely make a difference (but that costs money). The scoreboard doesn’t work and hasn’t done all season (it would cost money to replace … 14 grand apparently). No programmes available (they cost money to print so its digital versions only).
The pitch look in a half decent shape but the stretch where the linos run was waterlogged. The referee was Bobby Madley and he was a little concerned and mentioned it to a groundsman with a pitch fork who did absolutely nothing about it.
FIRST HALF: Rochdale came out wearing Black & White striped shirts, black shorts and socks….. I really couldnt believe it. Match kicked off and within two minutes the lino on the other side of the pitch slipped and went down on his ar$e but was okay after a few minutes.
I wasn’t very impressed with Rochdale, in fact I was totally disappointed with them. They were so bad in the first half that they made Scunthorpe look good and it was no surprise when the home side took the lead (I remained on my seat when they did btw). Some of the home support were thinking that their team were playing well …. they weren’t, it was because Rochdale were offering absolutely nothing.
SECOND HALF: I didn’t realise that former Town player Robbie Stockdale was the manager of Rochdale. Whatever he had said at half time certainly worked as they were totally the opposite of the team that had struggled so badly in the first half. Scunthorpe couldn’t handle this rejuvenated ‘Dale’ and had no answers whatsoever.
When the equaliser came, I actually kind of cheered but then (realising where I was) disguised it by berating the home defence for not putting a challenge in. There was only going to be one winner after this and it was never in a million years going to be the iron. When the winning goal came I managed to nullify myself for safety reasons (I really wanted to let myself go and strip off to my Town shirt). Rochdale fans spewed onto the pitch, danced about and then casually went back into their end …. the stewards were poor at crowd control in my opinion.
Scunthorpe were very poor in the second half, they seemed to accept the inevitable when Rochdale got the equaliser and it was as though they expected to lose the game.
They are going down without a doubt. Most of their players wont be there next season and most of them probably don’t want to be. Keith Hill can talk about committing himself for next season, but I am not convinced that he will be or if the fans want him to be.
What will Mr Swann do when it happens. The Sands Venue Stadium (which he owns) needs money spending on it. He states that the club can only spend what it generates ……. my mate is looking at the National League as a short stay … and he is not talking about getting promoted.

MY VERDICT: They are in for another season of struggle and we will fill their away end next season.

What Hill says now may be very different to what he says at the end of the season.
