The world has gone mad but Butler only has himself to blame for this. We have all listened to a lot of post match interviews from a lot of different managers at different levels from non league to World cups and I can’t remember one as bad as Butlers on Saturday.

Outside noise ? Well at least it’s official that we aren’t all in it together.
I don’t know who writes the match reports on the ows (presumably James Moody), but there isn’t any outside noise. There is zero interest in us from anywhere outside the club. The non league paper print a little match report with info from some source and Radio Humberside are doing their job reporting what they see and asking the questions they think need asking.
There is no meaningful local newspaper anymore.
Any “noise” is coming from people who support Scunthorpe United via the various forms of social media and some vocal dissent from the stands. The approach from the club is creating an us and them feel which really isn’t good. I’ve never known such petulant interviews from a manager, it is embarrassing to listen to – and this is a guy who Ive supported and really thought would be good.

414, for whatever reason the current team under Butler are not doing as well as expected. Ultimately if he fails or when whatever losses or league position triggers the clubs get out clause, then he will probably lose his job. It’s football, Butler knows how it works you don’t need to be personally insulting to a man who played over 100 games for our club in a much better period and in all other respects is held in high esteem by most supporters of Scunthorpe United.

So you’re saying the players aren’t good enough to adapt to playing different formations (as any player always should be) and some are playing out their top dollar contracts but you also think Butler / Schofield are the problem? All bases covered there. There’s a desperation to aportion blame for this terrible form and performances but I doubt anyone really knows how to fix it. But that doesn’t stop the supposed certainty of many claims.

One of the main problems why this has got to the stage it has is poor communication. Between the club and the supporters and Butler and the supporters.

The club clearly stated before this season that the aim was promotion and they thought we had the squad to do it. People bought season tickets on the back of this and are fully behind supporting the team to win the league. Promotion from this league is winning it, there’s no point talking about the playoffs as that is a lottery which currently more than half the teams in the league could feasibly end up in the playoff final and have a chance.
The club also got rid of Dean and appointed Butler and he said quite clearly that he understood the remit was promotion, we were going to be the fittest team in the league etc. Then suddenly Turnbull is sacked with a terse statement to inform us, we’ve got no idea what that was really about.
Nobody is under any illusion, after last season, that this league is shite and we’re going to see some horrible games and even lose some but with some half decent players and supposedly full time supreme fitness, I think we all expected to watch the team have a good crack at winning every game and be good enough defensively to prevent most other teams from scoring. Instead we’re either watching dozens of missed chances followed by horrendous defensive mistakes or squaring up for 98 minutes of head tennis with teams like Alfreton.

I don’t think he’d do it, but he’d be fine by me.
What the idea of it proves, is that we can see that someone with a basic knowledge of football and an ability to deal with players could organise that squad to beat part time pit village and works teams at home.

If there is such an experienced manager will they be happy to take over our squad with a remit of must win the league but no budget for signing anyone spectacular ?
The fact is from the outside looking in Dean got sacked for finishing second and losing the playoff semifinal and a large section of our home supporters are booing the current manager for a 0-0 draw against a team known for negative, anti football qualities of which there are many more for us yet to play.
Any prospective new manager will say they want some new signings, which will financially scare the board and we’re stuck with the expensive ones we’ve got until the end of their contracts. Also there’s the prospect of a still to be appointed recruitment director/analyst who surely has to be on the same page footballing wise as the manager ?

As bad as it was on Saturday – and yes I accept everything 414, Awaywego and co have been saying for weeks – The fact is at third in the league, most goals scored and third fewest conceded and undefeated for the last 3 with 5 points from a possible 9 then sacking a manager isn’t a good look to the outside world. Who else would we get, or would want to come ?
It is a dilemma for Michelle and the board, Butler has lost the support of most supporters but if he wins the next 3 he could be December manager of the month !!

I’ve tried to be supportive to Andy Butler, but I was wrong. That was the worst game of football I’ve ever seen, and the worst post match interview I’ve ever heard. Butler taking 70 minutes to come out and be interviewed is just being petty to annoy Ollie Turner.

Everything required for a football match was there – A stadium with a pitch correctly marked out and and goals at each end, a football (inflated to the correct pressure judging by the bounces and head tennis games), 2 teams each of 11 players plus a few substitutes, a referee with a working whistle and 2 assistants. There was even some floodlights so everyone could see what was happening. Despite all the necessary ingredients, 98 minutes of pure dross was played out to the 3,500 unfortunate spectators.

Scunthorpe United, unable to string 2 passes together and lashing balls away from their own goal with a carefree cry of “ ‘ave it !” that brought back memories of Deejays Division 6 games on Ashby Ville.
Alfreton, happy to destroy any hopes that a football match might accidentally break out by engaging in a masterclass of time wasting.

What an absolute disaster of a game.

    * FA Trophy attendance down 30% from last year is meaningless when we played a team from a higher league last season and not one from a lower league like this season. *

Sorry, too late to edit my bad grammar.

    Iron414 is definitely a troll.
The negativity is off the charts, even from before the season even started.
FA Trophy attendance down 30% from last year is meaningless when played a team from a higher league last season and not one from a lower league this season.
Butler’s management career will go one of two ways dependent on results, in the meantime give the guy a chance, he is actually on our side.

Is Beck in place already in preparation for that CMC ? As for Evans, just go somewhere else please.
I was at the Warrington Ryland’s match yesterday and as supportive as I am towards Andy Butler, that second half was absolutely dross, unfortunately hitting the woodwork and skimming balls past the post are misses and don’t count for anything. Yet again we gave them both goals on a plate, Denton and Evans are an absolute liability.
The form table doesn’t lie and in my opinion AB is skating on extremely thin ice.
Leamington unbeaten at home so if we were in reasonably decent form then getting a draw there would be OK but it is now a must win game as is Darlington
With Fitzsimons, Boycey, Beestin and Whitehall back in the starting 11 plus Beck (who couldn’t really be faulted yesterday and will be a threat at this level) then we should win that game, if not we all know how this story ends.

I was happily keeping my head down on here and just suffering going to the actual games like in the old days, but SUFC can’t seem to get through a couple of months without some sort of drama.
The statement about Turnbull is very poor, it does suggest he’s been sacked and leaves a vacuum for everyone to wonder why and what has happened.
If Turnbull has done something that they’ve deemed gross misconduct then tell us, it doesn’t have to be detailed just say they been made aware of something or an incident has happened and they’ve sacked him.
If they aren’t happy with his player recruitment or something football related then say that.
It’s getting like amateur hour, everything is guess work for the average supporter, from no post match interview from the club with Butler after the Buxton game (luckily radio Jumbleside got an explanation from him), to that badly worded statement about Turnbull and no mention from the club about Luke Williams training here for 6 weeks despite it apparently being common knowledge.

Thought you’d be back once the meltdown fuse was lit by a loss 414. Losing one game on a wet horrible plastic pitch, with our best player – Whitehall – missing, against Scarborough who are actually a good team in this league, is not a disaster. As for the signings we’re only 9 league games in so I’m not going to judge whether the perfect first 11 and formation is known yet.
I think Butler will get us promoted, probably with a couple more players coming in along the way and maybe one or two of the current players getting loaned out as well.
Until then I’m going to keep my head down and enjoy the actual games. See you in May 2025. Up the Iron !

Because that ref isn’t very good at reffing, bottled it and didn’t apply the laws of the game properly. T Wilson, same ref that disallowed Scales perfectly good goal at Blyth and called Spennymoor away match off last season.

Sadly, awaywego the 14 years of kind, benevolent Tory government has come to an end. If only they could have continued paying you a heating allowance in return for you believing they were actually bothered about you, but alas it is not to be. Never mind you’ve still got Hilton’s signed Ilkeston shirt to remind you of a happier time.

As Phil says, Scarborough won their fa cup replay last night, also scored 5.
A certain Cam Wilson got one of their goals.

I think we’ll win on Tuesday night. 90 minutes hard work by the Newcastle players on Saturday and then most of them will be at work doing real jobs on Monday and Tuesday.
I hope we do get a bit of cup run, but I don’t see the changes Butler made on Saturday as disrespect to the cup or Newcastle town, any combination of our squad should have been capable of a win there and it made sense to rest some players for such a game. Glanford Park on Tuesday night they will put it right. If people would rather watch champions league or Man Utd on telly, or think the gate price is too expensive then don’t go, it’s that simple.

Any notes for a Matlock fan. Currently the club is owned by its fans (a season ticket give you a vote/share). The board has called a Emergency General Meeting for 2 Oct to tell us about new investor also tp chan̈ge the club to issues shares, so looks like the board want us to vote to pass the club to our mystery man !!

If it is Hilton, read this :

    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jyzDdHxN5t0F6oWHZ7WaYDyAqNKct_0biIZYDPFri3s/mobilebasic

Then Google “Scunthorpe United 1899 club”, then run away from him.
If it’s not Hilton do a lot of homework on who it actually is !

    Good luck.

As far as Dean goes, I can’t see him wanting to work for Hilton again. He didn’t achieve want we wanted on the pitch and paid the football price for that but I think Hilton treated him as badly as he treated everyone involved.

Not sure what you’re getting at here Rene ?
Surely the naming rights is a commercial sponsorship arrangement between the sponsor Attis Insurance and the club Scunthorpe United. Unless you know that arrangement specified that the club will change its postal address and all club documentation, and repaint the “Glanford Park opened 1988 etc “ sign over the tunnel then I don’t see any issue with it fundamentally being Glanford Park on a document you have to search for and read.
Why criticise someone at the club who is clearly working very hard with a silly Marcus Cicero quote.
Anyway, Top of the league, Up The Iron !
