From the article above:-
“The Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975 makes provision for the Secretary of State (for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport) to designate any sports ground with accommodation for more than 10,000 spectators (or more than 5,000 spectators for grounds hosting Premier League / English Football League matches) as requiring a safety certificate to admit spectators.”GP capacity is 9088 so why do we need a safety certificate? Am I missing something?
I’ve been reading it and got to this :
And this :
I’m sure if there is a loophole DH can find it.

The way I read it Awaywego, (and as you know I am often wrong !) if a football stadium has a capacity of 5,000 or over then it requires a safety certificate. I guess clubs like Tamworth have small enough stadiums.

It is same stadium as the championship days so that factor remains the same. I guess the attendance is going to be about half of the championship, so that has altered. But there was more policing in and around the ground which probably affected the number of stewards required. The safety is probably as much about evacuation speeds as stewarding of opposing fans. Is 50 people on minimum wage for 6 hours every fortnight financially crippling ?
There does seem to be theme !
Doesn’t the club have a safety officer any more ?
Surely the actual chairman doesn’t haven’t to personally go to meetings, the leader of the council won’t be there, nor will the chief Constable.I would believe what they have to provide. He’s operating a football league club with its stadium and associated supporter numbers in non league. It seems to me he can’t afford it, or doesn’t want to put the money in, which probably explains why the ground hasn’t been bought, academy closed and other alleged non payments. £21,000 to steward and police the Oldham match is over a fiver per spectator, but presumably there would be concerns over disorder due to relegation for us and staying up for them, and any history with Oldham and numbers they brought. Surely the stewarding and policing costs are something budgeted over a whole year not on a match by match basis ?
It isn’t going to be sustainable until at least back in the efl where tv money, premier league money, academy money etc returns. There is a reason why relegation from the football league is called the trap door.
Insisting things to local authorities rarely works out, they have to play by the rules and do whatever assessments are required, in a certain way and enforce the results.
Most non league clubs with smaller grounds probably don’t have to meet a lot of the rules, I don’t know for sure.3 users thanked author for this post.
I was being sarcastic AA, sorry.
There is a full page “Academy Roundup” in todays match virtual program, I would say a lot of supporters still won’t know it has been scrappedWhitehall, is he Bennett in disguise ?
Why take Wilson off ? He was the only threat we had..

I’m sure Hilton said on radio humberside, before the Tamworth game, that the court date was some time at the end of August but he was hoping to sort something out with Swann and don’t worry he thinks it will all work out ok.
Cheers ! I can’t keep up 😬
AA, we have been told, it’s over, there’s no point raking over the coals. The Academy, and under 18’s was just a pointless gravy train for those people working in it. There is no value in it, any half decent lads will make it to professional level somewhere if they are good enough. There is no point producing our own we can just pick up ones who haven’t made it at other clubs. Local players will still have local grassroots teams they can play for and there are development places like Bottesford where they may even get signed up for Lincoln City in the actual football league, such places may even do some of the school stuff so local kids can meet actual pro footballers from their nearest league team. Anyway, if we get back to the league we can start taking the FA money again and dust down those old portacabins, mow that school field and start again. What’s the problem ?

Not at all, my mind is made up on the subject and I have my own contact at Trinity.
Sorry, I just didn’t like your sanctimonious and unnecessary post.Best not say anything without cast iron evidence in future, you should not post anything that could put Matt and the site in legal jeopardy. Thought you might have twigged that TBH
Dear oh dear, there must be a job for you as a Facebook moderator.
I’ve read Pele’s posts on this thread and the deleted ones, Pele said he asked for them to be removed, nothing to do with being inaccurate.I forgot Slocombe was at Bottesford, ironic.
Recently Wilson, Foster, Shrimpton, Robertson, Pugh, Lewis, Cribb, Sellars-Fleming, and then Watson, Wootton, Slocombe, Godden. I’m aware they are not necessarily all born and bred in Scunthorpe but they are products of the academy. Just as important is the link between the club and the community through the academy. I think closing it is a bad decision for the club and the town. Unfortunately we have been taken over by a non league owner and this is the path the club is going down, nowt I can do but bleat on here…..
Still no communication regarding the 1899 club draw!..Guess the £100,000 long gone..Not fair when people have parted with nearly £2,000 and hear absolutely nothing!
Hilton offered to sell something he didn’t own. Caveat Emptor.
Too many pessimists on this forum.Too many people think the worst,if you’re not interested in the club doing well don’t use the forum
FFS, I’ve just read your previous posts, please look up the definition of pessimism.
Aside from how the academy closure has been done by Hilton – very badly – which is only to be expected from what I’ve seen from day 1 of his ownership.
The fact that a team, which used to be one of our main rivals, has partnered with one of the main non league clubs in the Scunthorpe area, and were quite obviously poised waiting for the official demise of the SUFC academy is horrendous.
Here’s a quote from the Lincoln forum ;“ Bottesford is basically in Scunthorpe. Perhaps they could become a feeder club for us….”
Those saying “cut your cloth”, “we don’t need an academy”, “waste of money” etc etc, Wake Up ! The club has abandoned the young players of the area, now and in the future, to be picked up by the likes of Lincoln City.
Good move for a professional football league club.
Wasn’t the closing of the academy announced on 14/15 july and yet people are trying so say the boys didn’t find out till the 8th of August, were they wrapped up in cotton wool?
My understanding was the U18s were continuing. Unless I misunderstood the previous announcements/u turns/hearsay from fans forum/screenshots from Facebook.
The lights will go out without the last person having to press any switches AA.
Just get a pen and a piece of paper and list everything that has happened at Scunthorpe United since this January, the club is falling apart.
All the social media nonsense with face book and that Herbert character is just a sick sideshow.
I haven’t got a clue who he is or what he is doing but DH doesn’t have my support.1 user thanked author for this post.
FFS.
Deleted.
If he doesn’t have the money, then what exactly is going on ?
I don’t know exactly how courts work but if Swann turns up at court with an entourage of solicitors and barristers etc and he wins then could he also get his costs from Hilton as well ?I agree, and like I said that chapter is over, water under the bridge, done and dusted. Coolsilk and therefore Swann, own it. (Or at least have their name on the mortgage…).
I also hope, like Bartoniron66, that it is settled out of court. I don’t think Hilton will have much chance with this in a courtroom. It is about the stadium and the land. Anything to do with the football club – tax, wages etc won’t be relevant. Swann somehow put GP into the ownership of a separate company, unchallenged at the time, so that part is over.

I’ve tried very hard to deal with this in exactly the same way as you Samways. Unfortunately they are practically no official statements about what is going on though. The owner, under his previous name, is communicating with a Facebook group that seems to allow no questioning or dissent whatsoever.
Any serious questions about what is happening on here are met with an appearance by Patrick from Ilkeston.
I get your point but it is burying your head in the sand.
I don’t see any problem in Sufcnot, IB or iron insider highlighting any possible issues. Forcing them away, which I’m sure would delight DH, is not the answer.
That doesn’t mean I don’t support the lads putting on the shirts and playing.1 user thanked author for this post.
There’s always one Pat.

Can you name another British footballer playing in Saudi ? I can’t.
Henderson is English still had 2 years on his Liverpool contract and a good chance of playing at euro 24. Not exactly on the breadline.
He’s gone to a club with 5000 average attendance that are paying £700k a week. I really didn’t think he’d actually do it.Not even close to £700k a week!
He’s sold out for even less then.
