Surely coincidental that he also seemed to lose interest there when a proposed property deal didn’t go the way he wanted it to…

If only we were run by a ‘developer’ who aspires to match “anything London has to offer” when running a bar.
Perhaps if the Scunthorpe demographic included a sizeable number of wannabe James Bonds we might be the beneficiaries of such quality surroundings….

If he owned 100% of the club, it would be true that he’d “sold the ground to himself”, but he doesn’t. If the value of the land/property is worth more than £11m (I’ve no idea), he’s potentially in breach of his fiduciary duty to the remaining shareholders.
The club are currently in discussions with the local Safety Advisory Group with a view to opening the restaurant for the Colchester match on Friday. Same sort of arrangement, with the blinds closed throughout.
The “well run club” has declared losses of c. £3.6m in each of the last two annual reports.
Given the current rules on playing budgets, which would mean far lower ongoing losses, the only reason the club would be in danger is if the owner had decided not to sustain such losses in future, which he is perfectly entitled to do, much as we might not like it.
Of course, as a negotiating tactic, it wouldn’t be the brightest idea to suggest that the club is flush and doesn’t need grants…
P.S. I note, belatedly, that the sponsorship is actually specifically for the podcast, rather than for the website itself. Has the podcast ever even hinted at any form of anti-royalist sentiment? I suspect not, but am happy to be corrected.
Genuinely struggling to see your problem here Bucksiron.
Website struggling for cash
Sponsor offers cash
Gratefully accepted
Problem solvedIt almost seems like you’re looking for an argument when there’s no need for one.
If anything, your concern should be for the sponsor who’s got into bed with an organisation who may not entirely share its core values, assuming of course that anyone who does business with the royals must be ardent royalists rather than cynical capitalists who see the potential value of an association with royalty.
Perhaps you could offer them your valuable PR services, just on the off chance that the odd potential buyer of a granite worktop might be influenced by the opinions of a few who might hold left-of-centre views on the non-football section of a website the manufacturer sponsors.
(posters who, of course, don’t “run” the website, fundamentally undermining your initial accusation of hypocrisy)
If you have the app installed on an iPad or similar, the game should already appear under “upcoming matches”; just click on this before kick off – for the Port Vale game it started a while before kick off, with a live stream of the pitch at GP accompanied by the Humberside commentary.
If using the internet rather than the app, pre-match videos should appear without the ‘subscribe’ locked icon alongside if payment has gone through successfully e.g. the Cox interview about the Newport game has no such icon when I’m logged in (name appears on the RHS of the blue bar at the top of the screen); the match should appear here or elsewhere inside the iFollow part of the website as long as you’re logged in.
Apologies for my uncertainty about the internet option; I’ve only used this once for the Vale game, and I used the app for that…
I got my code yesterday and it worked OK. Contrary to what I’d expected, I was still required to ‘pay’, in my case using PayPal, and additionally insert the code (probably best to copy and paste to avoid errors), then confirm the transaction.
When the receipt came through it announced a payment of £0.00.
I’d initially just inserted the code and assumed this would be sufficient, but it was necessary to attach a method of payment too, despite there being no ‘payment’. Not as intuitive as I’d expected it to be, if I’m honest…
Surely for away games it will work as per Tuesday night’s game i.e. we pay to watch away games through our club’s website rather than theirs. There’s no reason why we should get free access via a code, as we wouldn’t get free access to away games as a season ticket holder, nor for home cup games.
No idea who gets the money, but as we’ve all signed up to iFollow Iron (or whatever it’s called) initially, it would be easier to pay for away games on there and let the clubs sort out the revenues than for us to have to register as home fans each time in order to access a stream for an away fixture. As hinted above, it couldn’t be offered free to away fans as home fans would be able to register with the away club’s iFollow and watch for free.
It surely makes sense to be able to watch all games, home and away, for £10 via the iFollow account to which you’ve registered, but to get free access via a code if you’re a home season ticket holder for the games for which you would normally access via your season ticket.
I may of course be wrong, but I’m hoping (without a great deal of confidence) that common sense/logic is being applied by those in charge…
“Just one qustion, when Scunny are playing away after next week, how will be able to pay, assuming that those away games are not free, will we nee a code for away matches??”
I’d imagine you will need to pay for away games, and there won’t be a code – the use of a code is in lieu of payment for all games covered by a season ticket i.e. league games only, hence the need to pay yesterday.
I believe this is true of the Lincoln game on Tuesday, based on my reading of what the club has stated here:
https://www.scunthorpe-united.co.uk/news/2020/september/get-your-10-ifollow-match-pass-for-lincoln-v-the-iron/“Does anyone know who gets what out of the £10 of my well-earned money?”
This reply on a Peterborough message board about their game on Saturday may be correct (I was told this by a mate who supports them who seems to think the poster is the type who’d be in the know):
“So the club get £5.83 – less the EFL/ifollow fee for providing the service – for each purchase of the stream through the Posh official web site. It’s pretty poor, but at least it’s something. How many people will be watching tomorrow? Be good if we were told.”I’ve no idea whether it’s right or not, but there’s every chance MacAnthony will have stated that outright, given he has his own podcast now in order to blather on about every subject under the sun. I shan’t be trawling through episodes to find out though…
There was no code for today’s game; you had to pay for it, leaving the space for the code blank as there wasn’t one.
Next Saturday, if you have a season ticket you should receive a code, so you should insert that instead of payment.
It’s either/or, not a combination of payment and promotional code. Next week it’s a code if you have a season ticket, or payment if you haven’t. Note the club’s advice about spam filters and e-mail addresses though.
It’s not free tomorrow owing to ‘EFL regulations’ – see note at the end of this link:
For league games you’ll be sent a link as a ST holder as long as the club has your e-mail address, as advised here:
https://www.scunthorpe-united.co.uk/news/2020/september/ifollow-iron-guide/
I’d advise contacting the club in advance on the e-mail address included on the link below; I did this today in order to both check that they had my correct e-mail address and to add the club to my ‘address book’ as advised here, getting a fairly prompt confirmation (though I wouldn’t necessarily expect that over the weekend):
