Some good points in this discussion; for me it was obvious when he was appointed that the club owner back then (David WHAM) was taking a huge gamble as this was without a doubt, the biggest job in his career. I often wonder why he was appointed; was it because WHAM saw him as an up-and-coming manager who would do great things? Or was it because he was a cheap option? Or was it for some darker reason?
Whatever the reason, and whatever we think of JD, I feel that baring something crazy we are stuck with JD until the end of the season as a minimum. Despite what we think we want, the club’s main focus this season is stabilisation and securing it’s financial future. Unlike the Swann era, I do not think that the current board will be as quick to dismiss a manager and, I am not sure it makes financial sense for the club to do so right now.
We have to accept that baring a miracle of biblical proportions, this season’s automatic promotion belongs to Tamworth and Scunthorpe United are bound for the NLN play-offs. As to how we’ll fare in the play-offs, I dread to think. JD doesn’t seem to be able to return the club back to the electrifying performances we saw against Spennymore etc. and right now, despite having lots of the ball we seldom create a clear cut chance to score. If we take our current form into the play-offs I fear we will be doomed to stay in the NLN for another season, or longer.
In short, unless JD can develop a plan B, C and D on match day, we are all doomed!

looking forward to this one…couldn’t get a ticket in the away end but managed to sneak one in the home end. Just need to pretend to be a neutral on the day and not get too excited if / when we score.

Decent signings; we have to remember we are plying our trade in the NLN so the days of over-priced performers being signed are well and truely in the past.
I said last April that like his namesake, this will all end in a car crash.
He seems like a nice fella but he seems to have no plan B when things are not going well on the pitch. He is unable to make any tactical changes, and many of his substitutions seem to be done out of panic, with no real thought on how it will actually work.
The team that was out there today look one million miles away from the team that ripped Spennymoor to bed. JD needs to work out what the issue is, and fix it very quick!

It wasn’t luck, good or bad. Blyth were there for the taking and we underperformed yet again.

I’m working so have the Humberside commentary on; it sounds like we’re struggling to get out of first gear AGAIN!

I’ve said right from the start, he is learning on the job and NLN is as high as he can go. Last night’s match further confirmed that unless there is some sort if dramatic change in him, he is not the man for the long-term. His formation and substitutions last night were puzzling. Ill-informed people will say that to lose 1-0 against Tamworth when we played the best part of 40 minutes with 10 men is a decent effort, but the red card papered over the cracks. We were never really in the game, and struggled to string more than 3 or 4 passes together throughout the match.
That said, sacking JD when you’re second in the table is probably a little extreme, would be seen by most football pundits as a knee-jerk reaction, and would likely be out-of-character for the new board. We have to remember, Tamworth are on an incredible run of results and are top because they are winning every match they are playing.
I can’t make the replay as I’m at the physiotherapist in York at 17:30 so I’ll be tuned in to Nation League TV for the stream.
It’s gonna be a tough match and I would go so far as to say, if Tamworth win this I think they’ll go on to be league champs. They just keep winning and with that record, would be deserving of the title too.

Perhaps Simon Elliott will know. He had seen evidence of David WHAM’s finances after all.
I’m really looking forward to this one. Hopefully the large away following will spur the team onto another away win.

It’s good to extend the winning (8) and clean sheet (5) streaks at home. Despite a couple of early wake-up calls in the first half the win never looked in doubt in my mind. It was a solid result against a team who had set-up very defensively.
December 15, 2023 at 2:43 pm in reply to: 1899 / 100 Members Consultation Event @ GP Monday 18th #278170I seriously considered joining the 1899 club when it was launched as I had a little spare cash and wanted to support the club in anyway I could. The main things that stopped me were;
1). I am an existing ST holder in the Vertikal Stand and couldn’t see an easy way for me to get across during the match to use the facilities that were promised.
2). It seemed like it was rushed and ill thought through.
3). I had just started hearing lots of stories around the trustworthyness of DH.Thankfully I didn’t go ahead and join, but I do feel for all those who did. I am 100% certain that they joined to help the club out and should not be belittled, mocked or derided for this.

Gutted…I purchased my stream ticket last night knowing that I couldn’t make the match!!! I guess I’ll watch the Farsley Celtic match then!
I have a ticket from the postponed match and was planning to get to this match however the flooding in Yorkshire means that two of the three ways out of the village are currently closed, and we expect the third to struggle tomorrow!
I guess I’ll buy the stream and watch that instead.

I think everyone can see that Jimmy is learning on the job. Does he make mistakes? Yes. Is he perfect? No. However, given we are top of the table right now I think it would be foolish (and extremely harsh) to consider replacing him at this juncture. I do honestly believe if we can keep this squad together then we will be champions of the NLN. The squad is just so much better than any other in the league.
If (sorry I mean when) we go up the big question is, do we stick with Jimmy next season? As it stands today, I would say that Jimmy Dean would struggle in the National League.
I guess time will tell.

Remember, that York City match was the NLN Play-off final. Boston sold out their allocation and the LNER stadium was very close to a complete sell-out (I know because I was there). Hopefully we won’t need the play-offs for promotion and as such, we are very unlikely to see a sell out of the away end.

November 18, 2023 at 9:14 am in reply to: Come and have a go if you think you’re knowledgeable enough. #27704813 for me, mind you there were 2 lucky guesses and a couple I worked out by looking at the kit.
Some classic grounds though, I recall watching Scunny at Burnden Park many years ago. The old Man City ground was a classic too, I prefer that to the soulless Etihad. I did have a laugh when I saw Donny’s old ground too. Wasn’t that stand set on fire by their dodgy chairman?
Given the current form I am confident of another win for the iron tonight. That said, I don’t think it’ll be an easy win, and the players will definately have to keep their wits about them.
The best hope for KL is to make it a physical battle and not allow Scunthorpe to get the ball on the deck.
My score prediction is: Kings Lynn Town 0 Scunthorpe United 2
Away Supporters: 245I’ve been supporting the Iron since the early 80’s and have learnt over that time to never take a match for granted. That said, looking at recent form (https://thefishy.co.uk/formtable.php?table=22) this *should* be a reasonably comfortable home win.
Great post CBRP – after the issues the club have faced this year the priorities *must* be stability, getting the ground back and, working towards becoming sustainable. Hopefully we can keep a majority of the players we have in the squad for the remainder of this season, however if the only way to guarantee the club’s long-term survival is to trim the squad then so be it.
We all have to remember, Scunthorpe United was VERY close to the abyss and are still operating at a loss this season.
As CBRP states – “Promotion would be nice but it’s not the priority for me.”
Clunan will have a hugely positive effect on the midfield, his marshalling and organisational skills should mean that we domonate the midfield again. I can only see a Scunthorpe United win for this one, and the only question is, what score?
I cannot see another goal fest as Boston are relatively tight at the back (ooo-eer missus). I predict a 2-0 or 2-1 win for the Iron.
Just bought my Blyth ticket too…travelling up for rural Yorkshire so it’s only a 200 mile round trip for me!
I think we should name it the “WHAM Stadium”… ;-)
With the quality of the players coming back into the squad it is difficult to imagine any thing other than another win and strong performance for the Iron. My head says a comfortable 3 – 0 win, with a smidge over 4,000 roaring them onto success.
Just turned radio off, working on a Saturday is depressing enough, being 2-0 down only adds to the pain!

After the last few weeks I suspect we are all enjoying a few moments of relative quiet.

Given that match ticket sales have been taken off the website, and the fact that Gainsborough Trinity are playing at home next Tuesday, I have a sneaky feeling that this match *may* get postponed.
Whilst I do appreciate that there are undoubtedly negotiations going on in the background, I do feel that in the light of the fact that home match tickets were taken off sale and the next home match is just over a week away, the club should really offer a statement.
Supporters do need to know what the contingencies are for people who have already purchased match tickets and season tickets. Should the worst happen, will we be transferred to a seat in the stand at Gainsborough Trinity, offered standing tickets, or nothing.

It is worrying and I feel the club needs to get some statement out soon as to what is happening for the remainder of the season.
I did notice you can purchase parking the Spennymoor and Bishop’s Stortford matches, but no actual match tickets. I suspect this is an oversight from when they removed the tickets from sale.
Great news, looking forward to seeing how we can help retain the ground.
