I know Boylen because he still goes to games and was on the pitch quite a bit up until a few years ago on the mic and bits .

I know George Kerr , my mum and dad live near him in their village to he seems alright , but was he just a manager ?

Matt tees my uncle used to tell me about to , I remember another one they talked about Harry Wainman a keeper ? maybe he was decent to .

No, fans won’t ask questions when things are going well , who would ?
From listening to all the podcasts I got the sense Swann really did want to take you right through , probably for personal glory more than anything .

But it was like the equivalent of someone winning the euro millions, with no strategy or business sense just ‘having a go ‘ year on year .

It obviously became even more difficult with increased budgets of clubs and his declining capital and he was sinking and panicking which has left you where you are now .

Totally agree mate , those days are gone .
Hopefully though people don’t now look at Luton (which is a total 1 off and probably won’t happen again )
Wreck more clubs by spending loads to try and do it , which i guess is what Swann was trying to do to some extent .

League 1 is probably about our level at best I think , I don’t know about a new ground because attendances have basically become irrelevant with the amount owners are willing to spend or borrow . It would take 10’s if not 100’s of million to go through and compete I am not even sure I would want it though , I enjoy lower/non league much more than the higher level games tbh . Maybe that’s just me though .

Jamie Forrester came to us as ‘the next big thing ‘ from Leeds and did not set the world alight but went on to have a really good career . I will have to google Barrie Thomas . Kilmore and Daws rings a bell but i think i’m too young to remember them I am 36 so really only mid 90’s I know about – Euro 96 i cried when we went out as a 10 year old I remember that , I thought we were actually going to win that tournament .

The coverage on Humberside was ace in the 90’s you knew everything about all the local teams because there was no other way of finding out how your team was doing even if it was not the live game , Guy Ipoua ? Was another one of their favourites I think to – that snd ceefax were class .

I honestly think anyone who buys a club now , who is not a fan is going to get there motives questioned and rightly so – in the wider scheme of things putting whether Hilton is good ,bad or indifferent aside the amount of clubs being ‘shafted’ by people who are not ‘one of their own’ seems to be growing and growing look at Yeovil ,Southend , Wigan and Morecambe to name a few recently .

Even though we are talking about The Iron here it’s a problem in football on the whole – more transparency and fan involvement is key at any club for me .

No there are not , Simon Elliott obviously bleeds the colours of your club and is a good guy ,worried and hurting .

Due to that whatever the outcome he has been caught in the crossfire of what is going on because he wants answers and he cares – whether he knows the whole truth himself is something we all will have to wait for .

If Hilton is transparent and ‘willing to answer questions’ why not go on Humberside , on the Burns show and answer questions that need to be asked ,not questions set by himself .

I think that’s a part of whats causing division , a simple interview with all the concerns and questions of fans, unity restored and no harm done .

Why is it not that simple ?

I feel like SOME Scunthorpe Utd fans total hate for Swann is putting blind faith in Hilton .

I have been a regular on here for about a year because I like the podcast and some good posts /banter from regulars – obviously good people who love YOUR club .
It’s the fans club not Hilton’s or Swanns.
It needs to be cherished and nurtured by the people that love it not a chess piece in a game .

    You need your club back

I know I saw that , i think even most of them recognise it’s gone too far now though – lets be honest most of us have mates who are Iron fans and even though you always want to be above your rivals to give them a bit of banter no one wants to see any sort of threat to the existence of the club .

What is your gut feeling Cliff ,you seem pretty close to it all as you were there , do you take Hilton to be a man of his word ?

Ilkeston fans speak highly of him and what he did there tbf looking at it objectively it’s so difficult to know .

Is he a someone with a slightly suspect past made good ,wanting to do good ?

That’s a question I would ask , i was interested in how ‘modified’ (if at all) the clubs statemate was from what was actually said at the forum from Hilton on the night.

I suppose all you can hope for is some clarity this week , my biggest fear for you is no news or some sort of holding statement that kicks the can down the road ; Ifs,buts and maybes are not good enough now and you deserve better from all parties .

He would probably say Hilton has ‘shafted’ him like he said the council and various others did .

It would be difficult to believe anything that Peter Swann says after all the false promises in those interviews

I am sure I heard it in one that him and his son basically picked player transfers for a time when covid was on and he actually wanted a try at managing because he had ‘a 50% win rate’ as Gaimsborough manager ?

He assasinated Chris Iwelumo as a player to ,referring to him as ‘Speedy Chris’ chuckling and making various other snide comments .

I don’t think those accounts are cods tbf, the parody accounts normally target our own and our club .

I think the issue is a lot of the input from our fans is from respected contributors on Twitter and even the more sensible one’s on The Fishy raising genuine concerns rather than baiting or goading Hilton ; I think most are viewing it objectively and asking questions that would be raised if it was us .

I don’t have any idea how it will work out and hope Hilton is the man to deliver on all his promises , but looking in as an outsider with the continued backtracking and U turns it’s difficult to know what will happen next.

I think a lot of Town fans are now genuinely concerned , as much as most want a laugh when things are not going well for you on the pitch ,I think the majority want the club to survive as what would football be without our local teams and rivalry ?

The Twitter thing is strange these accounts popping up and abusing anyone who asks reasonable questions , like you say the lawyer lady took some and today the thread you posted on here above another created account launched a tirade of abuse at everyone on the thread – there was no abuse from the originators of it just reasonable and justified questions as i could see .Who would do that ?

I was thinking the same .
It’s more a question of if he can’t resist having his say isn’t it ?

He starts going off on his tangents and you would think it strengthens Hiltons hand and unites the fanbase more .

Because lets face it anything Swann say’s is pinch of salt stuff ‘Keith(Hill) has got a great budget and we will be at the top end of the NL ‘ being a prime example .

Hopefully you get your club back and united as one for a good go at NLN without all of these non football distractions

Did anybody catch Rob Waltham ( Leader of NLC) at about 17.20 on Radio Humberside please ? I missed it myself. Thank you. UTWI

Yeah he said that he does not know about the ground basically , it might be a good idea but when asked if the council are publicly backing it said ‘absolutely not ‘atm

When you say ‘a project like this’ Rich; what is that? ‘A proper modern stadium’ he hasn’t promised. Unless I’m mistaken? Couple of basic stands accommodating 3k? Sounds a it more realistic. A lot of ifs buts and maybes isn’t there. Suppose we’ll see what he’s proposing fairly soon. Well I’d hope so!

I meant like a York , Boston or even Burton relatively modern stadiums which you would have thought Scunthorpe Utd need at a similiar level of capacity which take a long time to deliver .

Like you say 2 or 3k would probably be doable but surely it would just be a short term fix .

I have seen quite a few of your fans slagging GP off on twitter , is it even that bad ?
In comparison to Blundell Park and many other old school lower league stadiums i thought it was good but just needed a bit of love and a lick of paint .

It was about as candid as a fans forum you are likely to see.

Hilton did a complete character assassination on Swann; it felt abit uncomfortable after the first couple of jokes, however it was an easy clap in the room

The deal for the land has fallen through because of an unregistered piece of land in the car park- a piece of land that miraculously avoided detection when the land passed from Wharton to Swann. The strip of land can be used as a ransom strip against the club and hinders insuring the land. In addition the planning permission has expired on the apartments which will also require significant ground works due to being in a flood zone. There is an also a massive discrepancy in land valuations- Hilton had to agree on the original price to purchase the club and save us from going bust. It was that black and white: buy the club without carrying out due diligence or we were out of business.

Hilton has bought the land at Glebe road to build a new ground. The council are on board with this and I know this to be a fact, they proposed the land to him. The funding will come from multiple sources; the levelling up fund being one such source. No confirmation on design or capacity as it’s too early. The biggest obstacle will be land remediation work; Initial surveys have come back ok. However, no-one knows what was dumped there. Hilton is further ahead with progressing with the new ground than I Initially thought. He he hoping for planning in 3 months with completion set in 24 months.

In the short term, he hopes we remain at Glanford park. This is where it gets confusing and to be honest I can’t explain it well; he is sub letting the ground from himself, to the club for a minimum of 12 months but hoping for 24 months. He expects Swann to sue him personally for this. He is willing to pay Swann £20,000 a month to lease the ground but they are no longer in speaking terms. This will get incredibly messy as we all know Swann will fight this tooth and nail.

Hilton has paid off the tax bill in full and covering the wages since his purchase. Approx £200,000 a month in which less than 50% is spent on players- a truly shocking statistic.

The club is making little to no money on secondary spending, Ie food/drink/hospitality etc. we even lost money from the Oldham game due to policing costs. Whatever you think of the new ground, you surely must accept that GP is no longer fit for purpose in its current state.

Hilton also wants to invest £2million into a training facility, within scunthorpe, it will have 4g pitches/restaurant and possibly player accommodation. The site will be revealed soon and he is working with the council to develop this.

They are going out to win the league next year and are going to over spend “without being reckless” before moving to a sustainable model. This bit made me feel uneasy after our last endeavours but can we afford to spend years in the NLN?

Overall, I left the meeting feeling more optimistic than I have in years. However, we have all been here before haven’t we? I’ll continue to question decisions and remain cautious until we see action rather words. In the meantime he has my backing and I’ll encourage others to get behind the club as we really need to pull together now.

I take you for your word on all that as you are more ITK than I would ever be .

I work pretty closely with a planning department in a big business and I have never known for a project like this to be delivered in two years , you are at best looking at 5 years but normslly 7-10 years ; if it’s a couple of little stands amd basic maybe the time frame is viable .

But a proper modern stadium I do not see how that is deliverable .

I think part of it is partly due to the fact our regulars don’t have anything to moan about – 2 lifelong fans running the ship who are loaded who want the best for the club , I suspect if Fenty was still at the helm the thread would not have so many avid foĺlowers – the fishies love some drama from whatever direction.
