Sidey, you’re heading down the same path as religion.

That is, trying to categorise everything. You can’t neatly pigeon-hole everyone’s ideals and beliefs.

If people just concentrated on being themselves instead of thinking they had to follow some pre-defined course then we may all get on better.

The worst people are those who not only believe they should be following a pre-defined course but expect others to do the same.

Saturday was the first time in a long while that we’ve seen the real Scunthorpe United!

That penultimate paragraph is agreeable. I wouldn’t be so dismissive in much of the rest. People believe for many reasons, but the comfort it gives is surely one huge factor which is understandable for even the hardened atheist.

But surely you can take comfort in any number of stories from any number of books? In fact the Bible is not a comforting book to read!

There are far better reads out there that don’t demand that you worship the author in return.

Anyhow my post was a specific reply to JI’s question about creation theory.

“You didn’t say why it seems self evident to you from that experience that there can be no Creator.”

Because in the Abrahamic religions the universe is earth-centric. “Heretics” were burned at the stake for declaring that the Earth orbited the Sun.

That and the fact that the age of the Earth is set at around 6-7,000 years.

As I said previously it is nonsense. The creation story was a simple explanation to placate people who were by our modern day standards unintelligent and superstitious.

We’ve moved on from that. We shouldn’t in 2023 be believing Bible stories any more than we do Greek or Norse mythology.

Religious texts generally give finite explanations. We know that science is not finite and that we are learning and expanding our knowledge all the time.

Just don’t get why religion is still a thing.

Your posts are becoming increasingly depressing SOS.

At least allow us to bask in the sunny uplands of a 3-0 win for a few days.

    Bugger me!

    Didn’t see that coming!

Chesterfield matching West Brom in the cup. Perhaps our festive results weren’t as bad as they looked.

AWG – if you believe anything can be done without funding you are incredibly naive.

Trades Unions take money out of your wages for membership don’t they?

Maybe selling their stuff is an attempt (even if you think it’s a pathetic one) to increase funding.

As for a common stance for fans to rally behind. Even if the Trust came up with one some would disagree with it.

As I say, you need people with recognised campaigning skills, not a football version of the Women’s Institute.

Went to one of the dark skies observatories we have in Northumberland for my daughter’s birthday last Wednesday.

If anyone still believes in the Christian creationist theory after a couple of hours there then the indoctrination is really deep set!

JI – “My view on fossils, Gurney, irrespective of what Catholics may or may not assert, is that they reflect the reality that God probably created the Earth several Billion years ago”

There are galaxies out there trillions of light years away. There are probably some so far away that the light from them has not reached us yet!

Sorry JI, but the creation is a simple story to satisfy simple people.

And to think Galileo was deemed a heretic!

Well I did, and therein lies the problem!

£10 for life membership. They’re not going to swell the coffers on that paltry sum are they?

No funding, no action. It’s as simple as that. An email newsletter each week and that’s it!

I think they need to look at online action groups like Avaz & 38 Degrees and see how they go about campaigning.

However, it’s a Catch 22 situation. Campaigns need funding and money is tight. I’d probably commit to £2/3 per month on a standing order, but others wouldn’t. And let’s face it, you want to see something done with your money and it needs committed individuals with relevant skills to effect that.

Hmm, big argument over this one!

Some sources say Rutland Water, but up here we’re convinced it’s Kielder Water!

Walked round both and Kielder is definitely further!

Wife works for DFS ,they are having trouble sourcing enough cushion fillings due to raw material supply problems, therefore staff are sat on short wages doing nothing for long periods due to? ,you got it ,the oven ready Brexit deal .

Hearing lots of stories along these lines.

The argument I used to get from the leave brigade was that it would force manufacturers to source materials from British companies, thereby boosting our own economy rather than Europe’s.

The problem here, of course, is that a) There are no UK companies producing those goods, or b) they are too expensive. So as a consequence businesses are shipping in cheap, low quality goods from the Far East and elsewhere.

As I have said before I know a delicatessen owner who can only get genuine produce from the country of origin. Immediately after the Brexit deal the cost of his orders went up by 30%.

Like most of the perceived “benefits” of Brexit the reality is completely different.

“All his plans made a great deal of sense”.

    Really? I mean, really?

Did anyone ever expect to see a refurbished stadium never mind a squeaky clean new one?

Did anyone think that splashing out the cash on lucrative 2/3 year contracts was sustainable.

The plan to install his son as head of recruitment? That went well!

He could talk the talk, I’ll give you that. But when it came to walking the walk…..!

Then there’s the old gag, which state is round at the ends and hi(gh) in the middle?

    ….Ohio!

I’m guessing the answer to your question is somewhere like Louisiana or Florida.

Just old enough to remember Ken Jones. Great keeper and a bit of a character. A Welsh version of Joe Murphy.

Thought Perez was another in that mould. That away win at Burnley was a highlight for me.

And what galls me is that all those radio interviews and Bru podcasts he did since 2018 were done by him knowing that was the case.

All the time he was saying everything was hunky-dory. We weren’t going down, we were sustainable, work was about to start on the redevelopment.

Laying the blame on others. NLC, the fans, Covid and the managers.

At last we’ve got some answers to what the hell was going on, but it doesn’t make it any easier to take.

Not against them as people Sidey (have spoken to Princess Anne and she was very nice). Just don’t think we need a monarchy in the 21st century.

Charles and William talk about modernising the monarchy but I doubt they will. More to the point I doubt large sections of the British public want them too.

One could argue that it was to protect the lives of US military personnel.

Hardly an idiotic decision for a President of that country to make.
