Someone said on the other thread that in the end we didn’t need the point we got at Bradford last Saturday. I beg to differ.

Had we lost Southend would have thrown the kitchen sink at Newport today.

The league position says we stayed up by three points but that doesn’t tell the full story.

making it 5 games since we scored a single goal

Correct! And only three goals in the last ten games of the season (and two of them were in the FGR match).

So 8/10 games with no Iron goals. Surely that must be the worst ever run we’ve had. It’s incredible to think two teams were actually worse than us!

    Absolutely shocking!

Noticeable omissions are Gillead, Eisa, van Veen and Watson, with Karacan on a six man bench that KDT and Mooney can’t even get on!

Does this tell us who’s on their way out?

    Is Onariase injured again?

Do some of these players actually exist?

    All very strange.

    Agreed.

And that’s what I’m saying. We invite pressure instead of using an outlet.

You started this thread as the angry man, but you have quickly reverted to calling anyone with a valid complaint or suggestion moaners and groaners.

    ☝🏻This!

You can coach skills until the cows come home. In fact I could argue there are too many Cruyff turns, rabonas etc.

None of this has any relevance if you don’t have a game plan. You could have players capable of hitting a 70 metre cross-field ball in the style of Beckham, Scholes, Gerrard et al, and a winger who can kill a ball dead first touch. But if you’ve been told not to do this their skills are wasted.

Our problem would seem to be that Cox, like Wilcox before him has put defence first. Nothing wrong with that of course, but often if you are trying not to give away possession by attempting such long range passes, the opposition can close you down quicker and force you into errors, which in the games I’ve watched is all to common.

Cox is no master tactician. That’s where his weaknesses lie.

Funny how the closed season is now proving more exciting than the actual football!

Awaywego thinks Iron supporters are the worst in the country. In his mind all Scunny fans hate all of the players!

As I said at the time of the penalty incident, I’d rather see a player fighting to take a penalty than one who dodges the responsibility.

And as for not wanting to stay here, I seem to recall his family coming down to watch him and when interviewed his mother said how much he was enjoying his time here.

Once again, following on from those three seasons near the top of L1 we had built up a reputation for developing quality players. That’s why we attracted loanees like Toney, Crooks and Yates. Now we’ve sunk to the depths it’s the likes of George Miller and Tyler Cordner.

If anything the recruitment strategy has to be better than it was four years ago.

if we had got promoted that season, we probably wouldn’t have sold Townsend, Wallace and Holmes

Had we got promoted I reckon we’d have had a good chance of getting Ivan Toney on a permanent.

30 goals for Brentford this season and most likely off to the PL for top dollar.

    Who’d have thought eh?

Just watched Hebburn Town win the Vase.

My mate lives next door to the ground and a late mutual friend of ours had his wake in the clubhouse a couple of years ago.

The town will be buzzing. Such a shame for the pub beer gardens it’s peeing down with rain.

    Congratulations to the Hornets!

If they have footballing skills – that would be rather nice but not essential.

If they don’t have footballing skills, how the hell have they made it up through the academies and youth teams. We’ve released young players with greater skill levels than some we have under contract now! I play on. Sunday evening with guys who have a better first touch than Loft, and retain the ball better than Hippolyte.

Football agents are like the stereotype used car dealers. “Got a lovely little runner here. Only 25,000 miles on the clock and four new tyres”. I bet young Swann just takes it for a quick test drive without even looking under the bonnet or checking for rust! That or takes the modern approach and buys online having just seen a two minute video clip.

Might as well set up a “Vinted” type website for clubs who want to get rid of/buy players.

Well I hope we can do what Morecambe have done this season, I’ll give you that.

But is this what it’s come to, looking on in envy at Morecambe?

Bright-eyed optimism is all well and good but we need action over the next three months to make sure we don’t have a fourth season of anguish. If ownership and management are to stay in place I expect a BIG improvement in what they can serve up.

Have they learned from the last three seasons? I won’t hold my breath.

The moral of this story is don’t expect to be able to complete if you don’t have a forward line worthy of the name.

Don’t waste our reduced budget on 4/5 non-league standard hopefuls. Get someone in who knows where the back of the net is.

And if you’ve got one already, just play him even though he is only eighteen!

I have been watching football long enough to know that more than likely we will be better next year.

    A bold statement indeed.

Bet you thought things would get better after Brexit.

UTI99 must be having a long lie-in this Bank Holiday Sunday. Not had an answer to any of those questions yet.

You only have to listen to some of Cox interviews throughout the season to understand what I am talking about.

After you’ve answered Deerey’s question, please can you explain the above?

    Thank you.

As I posted on another thread we actually entertained that season. 69 goals scored (MacLean 23, Torpey 11) in fact out GD was only -3. We scored the same number the following season when we finished second.

Unless we go wild against Stevenage our GF this season will be 41. So it’s obvious where our weaknesses lie.

Unlike 03/04 when it was a young inexperienced defence of Byrne and Butler that was the problem, it is in attack where we desperately need experience.

Club survives a pandemic. Team retains its EFL status.

Just like the other 72 EFL clubs have survived Covid.

You’re as bad as Swann. Maybe you are Swann!
