Not sure why people are getting worked up about the questions asked.
Like all politicians the answers would have been the same whatever the questions.
Personally I would like to thank the guys for arranging it and running it in their own time on behalf of us all.
I would also like to thank the chairman for pitching up and doing it. Not many would.
Having said all of that most of the answers were disappointing and uninspiring. To an outsider it seems the football side of the club is being run by the chairman with help from a manager whose main asset is doing what he is told.
Bob Oates was a very good centre back but was often played out of position in midfield.
January 15, 2021 at 4:25 pm in reply to: At what point do we consider the manager is the problem? #200928I think it was Hanson who said you don’t win anything with kids.
To be fair I don’t see any Beckam, Giggs or Scholes amongst our kids but you never know.
Spot on Cass – sadly
I’m detecting a touch of cynicism there Cass. Not like you.
At least we might get the chance to see Tafty and Karithecan.
As ever hope for but don’t expect a scruffy 1-0 home win.
I would love to see an Iron stats analysis of results when we play 3 centre backs and when we play 2.
All of our many managers going back to Alexander can’t seem to stop themselves trying this as a solution to defensive problems.
Fails more often than it succeeds in my view – certainly at L2 level.
Bedeau is a bit of a poor man’s John Stones.
Very comfortable with the ball and lots of his defensive work is really good. But once or twice in a game he loses concentration and consequently loses the man he is looking after.
Unfortunately centre back errors are more costly than for any of the other outfield players.
Typically centre backs are mid twenties before they play consinstantly well. In my view he has improved this season but only good enough when playing with an experienced partner.
Corner is not as good a prospect in my opinion althought we have not really seen him with an experienced partner alongside him.
Given Taft is left sided Cordner might get the nod to partner him until Onariase and/or McGahey are ready to return.
I would perservere with Bedeau myself. I believe there is a quality player in there even if we might have to wait a while to see it on a consistent basis.
Has anyone else noticed we are entering that part of the season when we always go 12 games or so without a win? Even when we have decent team.
Agree Les he is much nearer that level than his mates John and Abo.
With respect to the esteemed Cods it is hardly a “big” move. From anywhere never mind he SVS.
Credit where it’s due. Good hardworking performance against an OK League 2 team.
Eisa tried a little bit but McAtee turning into a bit of a winker.
O’Malley is class. Too good for this place perhaps.
I think Cox must have read my post regarding dropping Eisa and McAtee and replacing them with players who give a dam.
Well done Green and Hippolyte. For 45 minutes at least we have looked like a team.
Only Onariase is a loss based on last 3 games and he is injured.
McAtee and Eisa on the bench if they can be arsed for a change.
Jarvis also on the bench. At least he tries even though he is not very good .
Difficult not to agree with that assessment NI.
Struggling to think back to the last time it being a match day made me smile.
Hoping we can somehow scratch an early goal and repeat the Harrogate blip.
Definitely harsh on Spence. Clarke is a good player certainly at this level and i now putting a few games together
Rowe has shown enough for me to be worth sticking with.
Hallam shows little moments of promise but he makes Clarke look like Mr Reliable.
Otherwise I agree.
December 28, 2020 at 12:40 pm in reply to: What happened to the team that played at harrogate. #199825I think Bish hit the nail on the head during his comomentary on Saturday.
He pointed out that Mansfield were not great or particularly threatening going foreward but they did seem to have a plan as to how they were going to try and score a goal.In the the 3 games he has watched he cannot work out what our plan to score is. I can confirm I have not seen much of a plan in the rest of the games either.
If we do manage to score first then the team usually gets a bit of confidence and then our individually talented players start to play a bit.
When the opposition score first you can almost see the players looking at each other and saying “that’s us fecked then”
We show a little bit of organisation defensively even though we are often undone by basic individual errors. Going forward we have neither a plan or the belief. We are unlikely to get the belief without having a plan.
Even if the plan is to lump it up to Loft or Jarvis then at least let’s go the full Wimbledon and get bodies aggressively chasing the second ball.
We are a poor team in a bad position so time to choose a way of playing and stick to it in matches and in training until we get better at it. This season is now only about getting 25 or 30 more points. The best way to do this is to pick a simple formation and tactics and then choose the players who want it most in their correct positions.
And find a right footed dead ball taker (anyone but Eisa will do) and leave O’Malley to take the left footed ones.
It’s League 2 not rocket science Neil (and Peter).
Agree NI. Lived away from the area for 35 years and couldn’t do it.
Mind you we have been sh1te since I returned close to the town so maybe it’s time to move away again.
It would appear fron the outside that the main reason Cox got the job is his willingness to not argue the chairman’s decisions.
We now know for certain that Hurst was not prepared to tip his hat to the owner. Similar desire to make the football decisions possibly played a part in the demise of Alexander and maybe even that of Robins.
It would probably help everyone in and around the club if Mr Swann just appointed himself manager then at least everyone in and around the club would know where things stand.
Suggestion for Mr. Cox.
You have allowed Eisa and McAtee to demonstrate why you were so reluctant to pick them earlier in the season. They clearly think they are too good for us and are going through the motions until they get their “big” moves.
Either find a way to motivate them or let them train with the kids until they feck off.
I was angry every time I paid £20 to watch him.
The world is mad.
Who would have thought playing Sutton in his proper position and playing Novak with another striker might work.
Didn’t try either here very often.
Also Bradford finding if you have a shot or two against the Cods then you’re probably going to score.
We tried it once in our last 3 games against them and it worked.
Good news and very well done to the young man.
Can we have him back in the first 11 please Mr Cox and don’t rest him again until Brown is fit.
Are you suggesting our crowd is not always supportive of our young players NI?
Sounded to me like he knows exactly where he is going in the summer and his package is better than the Iron could ever match.
Also letting us know he is not going to allow us to squirrel him out for a few quid in January and will be hiding that behind the loyalty card.
Don’t blame the guy but it would be nice if he gave us a few more consistent performances before he swans off (no pun intended).
At 3 o clock yesterday Eisa didn’t look much interested at staying with the Iron until 5.
I think part of the problem yesterday and probably in the two games before that is that Gillead, Spence and Beeston have all ran out of steam at the same time.
In the games before that they were what Les calls our continuity playes. Energetic, consistent and with bit of quality. Given how poorly most of the rest of the team are at keeping the ball these three never get a brrather during a game because they are constantly having to hunt the ball. When you have to this every Tuesday and Saturday it is bound to have an impact.
We need two players that can share this workload in these positions to allow a bit of rotation and enable substitutions when they tire in games.
At a push Green is a poor man’s Gillead but since Vincent’s injury we seem to have no alternatives in midfield.
The Forest lad has been disappointing so far and anyway seems a better fit to replace a disinterested McAtee rather than Spence or Beeston.
I would quite like Hornshaw to be given a chance in midfield. We know he struggled a bit at full back but his issues were mainly positional. He works hard and can pass the ball.
When you play one of the poorest teams in the division and you allow their goalkeeper a day off then the problems are much deeper than 2 or 3 players not showing passion.
Thought Bedeau was OK by the way. Eisa and Loft might as well have stayed on the bus.
One of the few real positives this season has been the performances of O’Malley at left back.
He has defended well and provided a number of quality crosses.
He was tired on Tuesday and I get that. Am assuming he was OK on Saturday or shouldn’t have been on the bench.
Why the feck then do we play a left winger (and we only have his word for that) with limited league experience in the left back position.
If Cox is heading down the favourites route he will not be here much longer.
