Jimmy is falling into the Wilcox trap. Don’t lose and you win the league.

Didn’t work then and isn’t working now.

17 games with far and away the best squad of footballers. Go beat all 17 of them.

Their keeper made 1 excellent save from a deflected cross to save an own goal.

Everything else a decent Sunday league keeper would have dealt with. To be fair Ross didn’t have to do anything special either.

Until the sending off a goalless draw was beckoning with us marginally more likely to snatch a scruffy winner. They looked like a draw would have suited them from the off with their keeper taking best part of a minute for every goal kick.

Of course even a draw would have been a better result for them than us.

With the midfield and forward we have and Jimmy’s single minded formation we are only going to win against the better teams by playing fast passing football.

If we get drawn into a scrap we come out second best.

There was a lot of talk earlier in the season about playing us being a cup final for the opposition.

Well now we have 17 games we need to approach as our cup finals. Fast passing football from the off and don’t stop when we score.

The Tamworth style means they can manage games. We cannot so stop trying Jimmy.

Great crowd but sadly the Iron followed tradition and failed to turn up when the crowd does.

The lad has just got himself fit and has been unfortunate to pull a hamstring. Happens to footballers all the time.

He did win us the game yesterday by the way. I’ll be delighted if he’s still here next season.

He made one misjudgement yesterday. He got the ball on his other walkabout.

Still far and away our best keeper since Murphy. Did the commentary mention the two glorious passes he put Wilson clear with?

Probably a financial decision. Many NLS & NLN teams only get 4 or 5 hundred pitching up for their home matches. How many of them are going to fork out best part of a tenner to watch a poor quality stream of their teams away games?

Especially on nights if they have Sky/TNT packages they have already paid for and a Spurs vs Man City type game is there to watch for no extra cost.

Even if 20% of the fanbase tune in they would struggle to cover costs.

Surely the local ref will be impartial in his inspection.

Refund 500 Lambs and have Butterfield and Whitehall back or take the money and go without them. Which would you choose?

National League 15:00 Saturday games are available for international customers or those with the right VPN.

NLN & NLS 15:00 Saturday games are not streamed at all except international weekends i.e. no Premier League matches. This is I guess a commercial decision by the National League. They probably think not enough international customers real or pretend of NLN & NLS clubs to make it worthwhile.

I watched most Saturday away games I could not attend last season with Nord VPN being the most reliable VPN I found to dodge the blocking tactics most other VPNs succumb to. The only problem is you can not cast to a smart TV while using a VPN so you are limited to watching on a tablet as they are effectively on different IP addresses. I believe there are very fiddly methods of getting from phone/tablets to TV screen using cables but I couldn’t get that to work well so gave up and just watched on a tablet which you get used to.

Previous seasons in the EFL it was easier and cheaper as you could get a season pass as an “international” customer for about £140 for all matches home and away. Good value as I often worked abroad pre Covid.

The nuclear option would be to get a dodgy box and you can watch pretty much any game that is being streamed anywhere in the world direct on your TV including those streamed at 15:00 Saturday but of course I would personally never dream of depriving Sky, TNT and the Premier League of their revenues and profits.

Where has the sudden Butterfield for manager idea come from. Has he any coaching qualifications or experience? Is he interested in coaching?

He is a fine footballer and I love to watch him play but have seen no evidence of any leadership qualities or any desire to influence or direct his team mates.

Many players way better than Jacob have made bloody awful managers.

A neutral would have only thought we were the full team for the first 10 minutes on Saturday and for the first 30 minutes the week before.

For the remainder of those games we were outfought and out thought.

We have also conceded 4 goals in the last 2 games from bog standard high balls into the box from corners or wide free kicks. Interestingly I doubt we have scored more than 4 this season from similar situations.

We have missed Whitehall if not for his forward play then for his usually excellent defensive work from set pieces. Certainly Elliott was at fault for Boston’s first when he completely missed what should have been a simple near post clearance.

Given Tamworth rely heavily on set piece goals and their fat boy centre back puts every throw in they get in the final third onto the middle of the 6 yard box we may have a problem Saturday particularly with Whitehall still absent.

Much as I like Ogle I think Barrows needs to come in at right back for at least the Tamworth game if not for longer to give us some additional cover in the air. Having a front 6 with little capability in the air between them is a big disadvantage in this league and most other leagues to be fair.

Might be time to rest Denton and see what Kelly is made of. Seems to have a bit of fire about him that the team sadly lacks when things don’t go to plan. Final thought – Beestin is nowhere near fit enough to compete in midfield against Tamworth as demonstrated yesterday.

Pugh and Sembie-Ferris will be a lot more use to us if and when needed if they come with regular game time in our own league.

Much less use if they haven’t even been in our match day squad for weeks.

The final league table of the season never lies regarding the capability of a team. Something we have been painfully aware of these last 5 years.

We are going to have to deserve it to win it.

I was just fishing Friendly Lamb. Thanks for the bite.

Nothing but admiration for what Tamworth have and are achieving.

You were sh1te in your home game against us but then so were we.

    Pretty good last night though.

No doom and gloom here we will still win the league but I agree it will be tight.

Also give your manager the seasons award right now whatever happens. Part time on your budget. Fantastic job.

I think he is just not match fit. To be fair he has been with the club through some pretty dark times from a playing performance perspective but I’ve never really questioned his effort.

He does not seem a naturally fit lad and has taken time to get up to speed after previous injuries and the lack of reserve/U-21 football does not help.

Look at Roberts. For the first 3 or 4 games back he pretty much lost the ball every time he was given it. On Saturday he was showing a turn of pace we hadn’t seen before and beating defenders at will.

Catch 22 with Alfie. If he doesn’t play he won’t get match fit. He won’t play well until he is match fit.

Jim bob seems to think he is a wide forward so presuming he will be first choice to replace Smith. Not sure I agree that’s his best position but safer there until he’s fit than midfield. We have Law to bring on after an hour or so as he tires.

Based on tonight’s performance they won’t come looking for a point.

They’re not clever, they’re not pretty but they do what they do for 90+ minutes full on.

Not very entertaining but very impressive all the same.

When you are playing a team of equal or higher capability then batten down the hatches.

If your forwards are terrorising their defence then take the challenge.

You have summed up in 20 words what I was trying to say in my much longer post on the Brackley thread.

We are ill equipped for plan B but we are very good at plan A.

Roberts and Smith had the Boston full backs on toast and Elliott had too much pace and movement for their centre backs. They had to have a go in the second half so instead of rubbing our hands and going for 2 or 3 more goals we dropped off and left Elliott isolated to fight (and lose) the midfield battle they wanted to have. If it was a one off I could understand it but there is a pattern particularly in away games.

If we do go up we will need a more flexible approach because half the games are ugly battles in the league above.

Agree with Apollo on this one.

Don’t suppose his wages are massive but I guess him staying or not is not going to determine us winning the league or not.

I know what you are getting at Rene but I think the rest of the back 4 and Scales certainly should be included in the hard work club.

With Clunan and Butterfield I don’t think it’s a question of work ethic but rather the kind of players that they are. When opposition put 4 in midfield and make it a battle (like Boston did in the second half and in their home game) we stop dominating the ball and rarely win it back in midfield. Jimmy then tends to pull the wide forwards inside to help the midfield. Neither Smith, Roberts, Laws or Wilson are particularly good at suddenly becoming combatative midfielders and we lose our creativity and most of our goal threat. Also Elliott/Whitehall then become the only out ball. The full backs stop bombing on which again reduces our threat and choices of outball.

Have seen this happen in way too many away games as well as the occasional home game.

Easy from the stands of course but if you are trying to hang on to games you need to sacrifice Butterfield and one of the wide forwards and replace with 2 combatative midfielders. Shrimpton is the only one we have at the moment so Pugh would have to come back to be the other.

The other alternative (and the one I would favour) is to stick to plan A. Stick to our shape and style and trust we can score more goals than most NLN opposition. Yes you are going to lose 1 or 2 games with the criticism that comes with that but I think we would win an awful lot more than we would lose. Winning 2 and losing 1 every 3 games gets you very close to winning the league. 3 draws in 3 games drags you into the middle of the play off pack.

The make up of our squad is totally geared for Plan A. Time to be brave Jimmy. What would your hero Jurgen do? His team got battered for 45 minutes yesterday but he kept his front 3 up there and ended up winning because they had better quality up front.

Either a brave or stupid decision not to segregate. Time will tell which.

Hope our small section of wannabe troublemakers go easy on the shandies and lines of talc.

We don’t need sanctions financial or otherwise at this time. The National League seem more prepared to sanction for fan behaviour than the EFL.

As Awaywego rightly says the biggest risk is that Leeds and Bradford nutters see it as an opportunity for trouble.

It’s a sign of the times with top level football.

For most of my life I would have known most of this stuff. Since the age of potential super leagues, Premier League mascots on £70k a year and ever increasing Saudisation of football I really can’t be arsed with it.

National League North isn’t such a bad place to be (for 1 season hopefully).

If we get a half decent ref we will win.

Another one that ignores the incessant petty fouls and blatant play acting and we might struggle for a point.

They will be much happier with the forecasted high winds than us.
