Agree BLT. That was a very poor defence. I think we probably doubled the number of first contacts from corners for the season.

Agree with that Bill but he showed enough at Alfreton to have been straight into our first 11.

    Took Jimmy a while though.

That’s why I have mentally written off Roberts. He took a good 4 or 5 games last time before he did anything other than give the ball away.

Elliott and Beestin are not wingers or even wide forwards whatever Jimmy thinks. Roberts and Law are injured and unlikely to have any major impact on this season and are likely to be gone by next season.

Wilson’s face doesn’t fit and does seem to have gone backwards this season. McAlinden had half a decent game when he first arrived but his Chester goal notwithstanding has not looked like doing much else ever since.

Can understand the Jimmy gambles because he is out of the door unless he wins the playoffs. Surprised the board are backing him with more players but I guess they want to be seen to have given every opportunity before sacking him.

Bottom line is Roberts and Smith always carried a goal threat whereas their replacements and would be replacements not so much.

You forgot the lad on loan from Bradford via Farsley Cliff. Understandable as we’ve not really seen him.

Went to Brackley and Chester Awaywego and in both games we were lucky to come second.

The only team in the top eight we have won the away game against was Tamworth.

If we’re good enough we’ll go up. If we’re not we won’t.

I won’t be putting money on it but will be delighted to be proved wrong.

Second and third have to win 1 home game to get to the play off final.

4th and 5th have to win a home game and then an away game to get to the final.

6th and 7th have to win twice away to get to the final.

Best ever birthday game. 14th birthday OSG 5-1 vs Colchester United. More importantly Terry Heath’s debut. Still my favourite all time Iron player.

Other than that one and a memorable away win at Hull 30 odd years later we usually get comprehensively beaten on my birthday.

Think you will find we play them on Saturday 9th March Rene.

Am pretty sure of the date as it is what they call a significant birthday and I am still debating with myself if spending most of it travelling up and down to Bishops Stortford is a good idea.

The difference perhaps demonstrated by their second goal. Their player was clean through inside the box and only had one thing in mind despite being fouled by Pugh. That was to score and he did.

When Whitehall found himself in a very similar position he also had only one thing on his mind and the referee didn’t agree.

Not sure big hair would be up for a charity gig.

Rather stick with Jimmy than have Laws back even if it was for free.

It would likely cost nothing extra to sack Jimmy and his assistant.

The potential additional expenditure is what you have to pay replacements if they are not already on the payroll. Unless of course you feel the need to give short term internal appointments a pay increase for dealing with the additional responsibilities.

Are you sure Elliott isn’t a lone striker?

He very rarely passes to a team mate.

It has been drawn Awaywego as I got an email Wednesday saying I had won a game for 4 at the Hold in Wand Crazy Golf and I would get a further email with details.

I will donate back to the club as I would have done even if it had been a more desirable prize.

Not scheduled for streaming which seems a missed opportunity for both clubs and the National League to make some dosh.

Tuesday away matches at Spennymoor and Darlington not scheduled for streaming either. Strange decision to not stream away games for a club in the top 6 for attendances across the whole National League structure.

I have watched Saturday away games using a vpn for years.

Works fine in efl and National League but National League North don’t stream Saturday games so not an option while we are in this league. They have recently dropped their commitment to stream all NLN midweek games and only stream a limited selection.

So far Iron’s midweek games have been selected and would imagine this will continue due to size of fan base.

If any needs help on choosing/using a vpn give me a shout. Beware most van’s don’t work for doing this.

They played Buxton style football in the away game with a bit more quality. Tough test.

They may have changed style as I think their manager left to take over a King’s Lynn.

Watched it on stream Awaywego and I would say it was different to most of our away performances this season.

That was more down to Blyth than ourselves. They deliberately stood off us and kept a rigid defensive shape. We were allowed to pass at will across the back four and pretty much across the midfield with them thinking we would be ponderous and lack creativity in those areas. They got that right.

We did create and squander a few chances and had a perfectly good goal disallowed and if we had scored earlier we would probably have won comfortably against what was a fairly poor side.

As it was we scored late and then did the Iron speciality of sitting back and “managing” the game. Roughly translated this means surrendering the initiative until we make schoolboy errors to hand them a goal. This time Wilson and Fitzsimons managed to drop a clanger each in the same move.

If we had played with any pace and purpose we would surely have scored 4 or 5. Butterfield doesn’t half look good when he doesn’t play.

I know you were being ironic with your HMS PTL comments. I was actually referring to the Twitter posts kicking around early season that actually seemed to believe it.

Even the likes of Celtic, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid find pissing the league difficult these days.

You obviously were not at Peterborough Sports WG.

We played more football in the 5 minutes after Butterfield came on than we had in the previous 60 odd minutes put together.

Saturday was the exception but we rarely look dangerous or much likely to score when he is not on the pitch. I accept he had a poor game against Rushall but with the exceptions of Fitzsimons, Kouogan and Sembie-Ferris then so did everyone else.

A great many of our problems stem from the fact that the excellent Clunan has not managed to produce that same excellence which we had become accustomed to in the earlier part of the season.

Agree with that Les but I think what I happening with Clunan is part of a wider problem. Before and just after Clunan’s injury he set the tone for the midfield and back four to play crisp 1 and 2 touch football that moved teams around until a midfielder (usually Butterfield) or the wide forwards were in a position to run at the defence in the final third. Numerous times yesterday we ignored the simple switch to a man in space or delayed until the space was closed down and Rushall got back in their defensive shape.

Evans, Scales and Butterfield particularly guilty of needless ball carrying but Clunan, Kouogan, Denton and Ogle all did this at times. This has been happening more and more from the Farsley games onwards.

When we then lose the ball with a poor pass said ball carrier has then left a hole for opposition to exploit. Better teams than Rushall exploit this.

No team in this League can deal with short, accurate and crisp passing and this is what enabled us to blow teams away earlier in the season.

Have we stopped doing it for tactical reasons – if so then its a bad move Jimmy. It could be that the players have lost confidence. Maybe they bought into the HMS Piss the League nonsense.

You win Leagues by having your style and imposing it on most of your opposition game after game. See Man City, Liverpool, Wrexham and possibly Tamworth for recent examples of what I mean.

Given the game has a 13:00 kick off could the clubs not convince the National League to stream the game?

Might lessen the chances of a West Brom vs Wolves type incident and earn the clubs a share of a good few £9:50’s.
