I suspect the board are majoring on the costs of Jimmy and his two mates.

It deflects any Stelling type criticism for not offering a contract to to man who led us to second place.

Need not have bothered as we have long since dropped off the radar of the likes of Sky Sports.

Bit or sarcasm in my earlier post Cass.

You can only judge on what you find 64 and I have not seen any of that evidence. As you probably can tell from other posts I am not a great fan of any kind of racism or of right wing nut jobs so had I seen such evidence it might have changed my views on how nice a guy he was.

Either way he proved to be not very good at managing a full time professional football team so I am delighted the board found him too expensive to rehire.

Having not seen a selection of his tweets then I am obviously at a disadvantage here.

Perhaps you could share and justify your vitriol.

I did not want Jimmy Dean to be given a new contract for footballing reasons but this OP is crass beyond belief.

In which case it would be best for all concerned for the club to announce Dean’s new contract.

Don’t know how many games you saw Gurney to reach that conclusion. I saw every home game and about a dozen away games. Saw live streams of another 5 or so away games.

All season we have been the footballing equivalent of flat track bullies. Any team that could be beaten with half an hours effort by a bunch of vastly superior footballer were despatched, often with a goal or three to spare.

Any team with basic organisation, prepared to go 5-4-1 or 4-5-1 and work hard for the full 90 and we were clueless. Odd flashes of high quality from Butterfield, Smith and Roberts sneaked us the odd win in these games but usually we huffed and puffed without much idea until gifting the opposition a goal or two with a schoolboy error.

Tactically we were outfought and out thought by most of the top ten clubs. One other observation is that I never saw another team where I would have swapped more than 2 of our players for their players.

In my world this means the only reason we were not promoted was our coaching team was not up to the task. If they had started poorly and got better then I would say give them a chance to keep up the improvement but the truth of it is they started out OK and struggled to stay there.

I challenge anyone to tell me in any way the team improved during the season?

I challenge anyone to tell me a player that improved during the season? (apart from those that magically improved when they played on loan for other teams).

I like Dean and was desperate for him to learn how to manage full time footballers. If he had a contract already for next season I would honour it.

Would I give him and his staff a new contract for next season? No.

Having said all that if Jimmy gets the gig I will be there supporting my club, my team and my manager next season but without great expectations.

If you have any doubt that a manager or coach will not last a season then you shouldn’t be offering them a contract at all.

What does a monthly or even a three monthly contract say to a manager and to the players he is trying to recruit?

Pretty sure it was one of dodgy Dave’s claims that the dispute between the club (Swann) and the Telegraph was resolved.

Doesn’t mean it’s true of course.

Does the Telegraph even report properly on the Cods or do they just copy and paste from other sources.

I think proceeds from the playoff semi and the final had we made it would have probably covered any player bonuses.

Of course not. I would not renew the coaching staff’s contract but that’s just an opinion.

Will still be there at home. Probably won’t do the dozen or so away games next year if Jimmy is still here and still hasn’t worked out how to play away.

Ignore what I said about Billy Heath. Better him than old big hair.

Nothing against getting the ball in the box quickly by the way Bill. It’s the constant petty fouling, play acting and time wasting that is a major part of what Alfreton do that I don’t like.

WG have you ever watched Alfreton play?

It’s effective but it’s not what I would call football.

A massive no to Billy Heath for me.

We can only “offload” players under contract if the player agrees.

That usually involves the new club offering at least as much cash and being in an agreeable location.

I remember Hurst being ‘instructed” to get rid of underperforming high earners. Amazingly he couldn’t find anyone daft enough to pay the likes of Perch 4 grand a week.

No the final will be at Brackley or Chorley. Both finished higher in the league than Boston.

Neither will be as soft a touch as we were.

Boston website just has a link to the park and walk page on our site.

Too late to direct Boston fans to John Leggat and Kingsway with Iron fans to town car parks and Donny Road?

For 98% of fans of both clubs this will not be an issue but 2% of 8,000 is a fair few dickheads.

There are a fairly large number of fans who will have a problem getting into the town – and not just the 1500 from Boston.

Not to mention getting back out and home again. However, now we know Fans is OK we can stop worrying over nothing.

Rarely go into Scunthorpe at weekends except to watch football but is parking not always free at weekends in town?

Hardly a solution to the chaos the road closures will cause. Presenting it as something agreed by the club and the council when it’s available every weekend and evening is a bit disingenuous.

Might help the 1500 Boston fans to know this though.

I think (and hope) you are overestimating the risk Plymiron.

I think Evans is the player with the shortest fuse and is definitely targeted because of that but I think Jimmy will have him on the bench and stick with Kouogan and Boyce.

I would play Evans and risk the temper as he is easily the best passer of the 3 and equally good defensively. If we were playing Alfreton or Curzon I think it would be more of an issue. Boston are physically strong and they keep intensity levels throughout the game but they favour a bit of football rather than the dark arts to get results.

Whitehall gets into a few spats mainly because of his own attempts at shithousery but I was impressed with him at Spennymoor. He was unfairly booked early on and targeted for the rest of the game without ever responding.

I think our other red cards have been Scales and McAlinden for mistimed tackles, the kind of things that happen now and again.

I know some fans think refs have a downer on us and on Whitehall in particular. Apart from the idiot at Spennymoor I think a scary number of refs have been incompetent but not biased. Quite a few refs would not give Whitehall a free kick unless he was a victim of of GBH but he brings that upon himself and obviously his reputation goes before him.

Hoping for a decent ref, Whitehall concentrating on his football, no red cards, a good game, a record crowd, no bloody flares and an iron win in normal time.

    Not much to ask.

Depends if we’re talking the team we think Jimmy will pick or the team I would pick.

    I would go for:

    Fitzsimons
    Ogle Kouogan Evans McAlinden
    Butterfield Beestin Scales
    Roberts Whitehall Elliott

Elliott is not a natural wide forward but he is mobile and a constant threat. Jai Rowe is a decent full back (one of Boston”s best players last night) but not so good against bigger guys with a bit of physicality. When attacking I would see Elliott moving inside to play off Whitehall with McAlinden providing width on the left.

Boston lost one of their regular centre backs last night with a head injury so he will be out due to concussion protocol. A weakness to exploit with 2 up front when attacking.

We don’t need 4 at the back against a side with a very cautious approach unless they fall behind (based on the evidence of our 2 games against them and last night against Alfreton. I would want our full backs high and wide when we have the ball. Boston dominated the ball last night particularly in the first half but were very reluctant to support their front men.

I would play Scales before Clunan because he offers greater mobility and consistency.

I would play Evans before Boyce because he is a better passer of the ball than Boyce (and the rest of our defenders).

Delighted anti football didn’t win last night. A decent referee (for this level) stamped straight down on the petty niggling fouls that Alfreton (and the Curzon Ashton’s, the Buxton’s and even the Chorley and Tamworth’s) make such an important part of their game. Without getting away with the dark arts they created little and pretty much relied on their 40 or so long throws.

I think Beestin will play but hopefully not at left back.

McAlinden will play their I expect. Scales will likely be the one to make way for Beestin. It would be Clunan if I was picking the team.

Much as I want Jimmy and the gang to be successful he himself has stated it’s promotion or bust.

Given the playing budget and the differences in quality of our squad relative to the level I think this is fair enough.

Not suggesting he would deserve to be sacked but surely he wouldn’t be offered a new contract.
