Butterfield was not as effective in the last dozen or so games but I don’t think it was fitness related.
Two things happened. Even the less tactically aware of our opponents realised that stopping Butterfield negated about 80% of our attacking threat. Given most opposition had at least one extra player in midfield this was easy for them.
At the same time Dean became more concerned with not losing and we saw less off Denton and Ogle pushing on and more of Roberts, Corbett, Sembie-Ferris, McAlinden or Beestin (whoever was nominally playing wide forward) were creeping back to become half arsed wide midfielders.Left Butterfield (and Clunan and Scales) with very little to play forward passes to.
Disappointed he has gone as we all know how good he is in a side with a positive outlook. Gives Beestin the chance to finally nail that attacking midfield role which is where he does his best stuff.
We need 40 games out of you though Alfie.
Agree with WG.
At this level there are 3 qualities a perfect full back needs.
1. Decent defensively.
2. Can pass and cross well.
3. Good in the air to help with the aerial bombardment.Ogle has 1 but neither 2 or 3 (Denton is the same).
Gives Barrows a proper opportunity and allows Butler the chance to recruit another full back with wider qualities.

Just see it as a way of helping the club financially when they (we) need it most.
I did win a small prize and donated it back. I would and will do the same whatever the prize until we are debt free. When we get to that point I would prefer the prize to be in club shares or at least to have that as an option.
On that topic I know the board are looking into this but if there was a simple way of buying shares in say £100 blocks I think the rest of the debt could be cleared very quickly.
Agree with most of that Fans but let’s not forget Swann took the ground having stated many times over the years that he would not do so.
Regarding the ground and Hilton the situation was the same when he left as it was when he arrived. We should never forget what the pair of them did but do we really need to be giving Hilton the oxygen of publicly for his ramblings.
At least Swann keeps his mouth shut and doesn’t try and defend the indefensible.

That was just another of the elder Cygnet’s aliases Cass.

Who cares?

12 points from 4 home games against the North East teams without breaking sweat. 1 point from the 4 away games highlights Dean’s biggest problem last season.
Let’s hope Butler cam work out how to get the team performing away from home.

If we could get him for nowt or close to it and he fits the wage structure I would have him in a flash.
Even without Law and Roberts injury concerns we need an additional wide player. Corbett is more skillful, harder working and more resilient than Law on the evidence I saw.

He probably cost us a point at Spennymoor. The ref cost us the other 2.
He’s surviving his third chairman and if you include caretakers his thirteenth manager so I guess he must be contributing something useful.

I have got a hypothesis with a tiny bit of science behind it.
Given Butler (probably with input from Turnbull) wants to keep 18 or so of last seasons squad to spearhead next seasons title tilt then he doesn’t think the players are the reason we did not achieve it last season.
By inference he thinks the 3 management that have recently departed the club were the problem. He couldn’t/wouldn’t admit this publicly of course but it is a fairly obvious conclusion to draw.
If that is the case then I agree with him.

Butler also talked about loan players and I suspect he sees loans in addition to his “core” squad of twenty. Particularly if he can secure low or no cost loans.
Would make sense to loan a good young keeper (Foster?) or strikers that aren’t first choice but need to be much fit (Lavery?). Possibly not from the Cods but I’m sure our other local higher level near neighbours have players that would benefit more from playing for us than their clubs reserve teams.
Was like watching the Iron. Got the big crowd in then forgot trying to win the game.

Roberts, Beestin and Kelly as well as Law have been unavailable for half the season or more.
Beestin is the only one we have a choice about. Hopefully all 4 will have better luck with their fitness next season.
I think Law and Roberts if fully fit could play wide in a midfield four but the prospective squad if all offers are taken up leave us exposed for cover for these 2. Assume one incoming has to be a keeper.
Well done folks.
Never managed to do anything in the EFL. With us or anyone else.
Might get his chance now with Bromley.
Not sure it was a worse performance. Almost as bad is a fairer description Bill.
Given most Man U fans are Londoners then they hadn’t wasted anywhere near as much time travelling either.
In his defence I very rarely hurl abuse at referees but I felt compelled to make an exception at Spennymoor.
Is that the Jamie Vardy that Alan Knill said was no better than the forwards we already had when he could have signed him from Halifax.
In his defence we did have Bobby Grant and Jordan Robertson so was he wrong??
Well done Stampy. Until now I thought I was the most sarcastic poster on Bru.

Interesting the play off finalists only got 1 player between them.
Wonder how many will pitch up at Wembley for the National League final. The average home attendance for the finalists added together is less than our average in the league below.
Agree Cass. Needs someone more media savvy than I but assume we should embrace Twitter and Facebook at least.

Forgot to add I’ll have a tenners worth if we’re having a raffle.
Same thing these days.
Anything we can do after site costs are covered should go to support the club until it’s debt free.
Happy to start the bidding at £50 if we’re having an auction.
Absolutely right Awaywego. Twice as far to Brackley but takes about 20 minutes more.
And you can see the whole game when you get there.

Well done Boston. Strange team – only bother to score if they absolutely have to.
Won’t miss their away end though. Worst of the season with too many people in too small a space.

Nelson is not going to come here for a 1 year assistant manager gig so debate is irrelevant.
Butler will likely do what 90% of new managers do and bring in one of his mates. New managers like to be sure of 1 friendly face in the changing room.

Only the number 9.
Does anyone know what that’s all about?
New gaffer talking a good game on Hullberside. Interesting references to being fitter, having the right mentality and player development.
The main 3 things the previous regime didn’t do effectively.
