Do these players ‘still have the legs’?
That is something few of us can know for sure.

To be fair, we are rushing to judge some of these players a bit too harshly.
A few weeks ago, the team was attempting to play football and trying really hard for 90+ minutes. Rather lacking in goal attempts and pretty lightweight but not actually terrible.

With youngsters – a couple of defeats is all it takes for some heads to go down. But TBH there is a difference between that and a few throwing in the sponge. Some of these do really need to go. Now.

At this rate, relegation is a stone cold certainty.
A couple of old (preferably fit) heads can transform this lot. A new GK is an absolute must and this has been clear for many a month.

Learning from Cox how hard the Chairman tried on deadline day does not impress.

Agree with your two for the GK, DSGM, three marks off for a goal like that. 5 – 3 = 2.
Would give 6 to Spence, Jarvis and Gilliead – otherwise, spot on!

It was only nine goals conceded in the two consecutive home games.
    Is this a record?
I recall losing to Wigan at the OSG with 7 conceded, I think. I do not recall us letting in three in either of the surrounding games to beat the glamour of today.
Two let in in either of those games would have equalled the dazzling record set on this glorious footballing occasion.

I can’t quite put my finger on what and where it is going pear shaped but both FBs are getting badly mauled under the present system. Indisputable fact.
If it’s a one on one – the FB must shoulder any blame – but more often than not, it isn’t.
When it is two against one or three against two … The fact that the the FBs are inexperienced is just one more factor in this unfortunate mix.

I suspect that the crux of the matter is that the CBs have got so much on their own plate to cope with that they aren’t able to take any sort of broader view of what is happening.

I really like O Malley – he’ll be a good un. Hornshaw might well be too but it certainly ain’t gonna be at RB!

What is this big thing about not playing Onariase? – He’s been on the bench for a long time so must be assumed fit.

Is it the same thing with Cox that we’ve seen where MacAtee and Eisa are concerned?
The bits we’ve seen of the guy make him look pretty good.

It might be worth a shot finding out if playing him alongside Cordner would get the best out of him. If we were to do that as a trial, the more experienced Bedeau could take over at LB if required but RB has been exposed far more from what I’ve seen and is the greater problem.

How do we get from the reasoned, general opinion that the team needs a proper spine to ensure younger players develop to – the apparently general opinion that most of our signings are not up to it?

The answer is probably the lack of entertainment combined with extreme frustration. But it is just not so.

KVV + Onariase + McGahey back in the team alongside a GK + an old hand CM general and this team has real potential – IF played properly. (I have allowed for Clarke not being available.)

Even without any further new signings – that really should be sufficient to achieve safety with a degree of comfort if we actually play to our strengths.

It would be interesting to compare Beestin, Spence, Hippolyte, Vincent, Taylor with the Levi who is not getting appearances at Bradford.

I’ll say again that I reckon that these lads would come good playing off an experienced man.
They are not poor players, as such.

Yes, Ferrite. That’s why my first line echoed your sentiment.

If I thought we could get thirty games out of Bish in a season – I’d have him back like a shot at 39. He only managed 23 in his last season at Mansfield, though. Niggling injuries for the most part, I understand. Sigh.

After all, Tony Ford and Beags were great older players for us as total professionals.

Not totally, Ferrite. There remain one or two other relatively minor matters still to be addressed.

Since Bishop’s departure – I have argued in posts, several times a season, that we need a ‘catalyst player’. Call him ‘a leader in the middle of the pitch’ or maybe even a ‘play-maker.’

The titles do not matter. So many on here have argued that you can use younger players provided that the side has a spine. Well, ours doesn’t!

CBs and KVV – fit – then fine but that glaring hole in the middle of the park …

I have tried so very hard to support Rory but he is just not improving.
Truly sorry to say it but, decent goalie in this week or we are seriously running the risk of a bottom two finish.

    Watson – 5
Hornshaw – 5. Somehow the system made it impossible to defend down our right. They always seemed to have one more man available than we did. Permanently exposed. Can’t blame a young lad played totally out of position. Wholly unfair.
    Cordner – 4.
    Bedeau – 5.
    O’Malley – 6.
    Spence – 6.
    Vincent – 5.
    Gilliead – 6.
    Eisa – 6.
    Taylor – 5.
    Jarvis – 7 early on. 4 later. 5.5 overall.
    McAtee – 6.

Loft – can’t be blamed for being ineffective with no support. 5.
    Beestin – 6.

Conclusion – 6 players out of 14 hit the dizzy heights of ‘average’.

Take all of our CMs in the squad and playing any two together does not work – agreed, as plenty have said before – they are too alike.
Taken as individuals, I think most are pretty decent but …
You really can’t do without one solid experienced leader to build around. IMHO – most of those lads would be getting plaudits played alongside a Bish type.

Cordner must either ‘man up’ or quit the game. Two games back to back he has been a real weak link. I am not a Bedeau fan as he makes too many errors and misjudgements but I am starting to agree, Onariase and Bedeau, until McGahey eventually gets back.

    GK in before the deadline?

Weren’t we told big Kev would be back in late October?

I’ve found that browsers work sometimes and not others. I don’t use Microsoft Edge normally but I find it the best, if that helps anybody.

    Onariase?
Is he fit? Even if not totally match fit, surely we would not have conceded so many awful goals.

Surprised how quickly Taylor’s game has deteriorated. I struggled to give him a 5.

The usual great start until the opposition suss us out and turn the screw.

I agree with Mike and Tom – this was a very good FG side. We aren’t equipped to deal with such ability and organisation in Division 4.

Playing loadsa youngsters – they have to learn and adjust. I’m rather hoping that we take plenty of points off the other weaker sides.

Can’t see any hope that Mooney can be all that close to match fitness.

3 – 4 – 3 might be a bit of a worry. It would surely condemn the wide men into having to act as WBs.
Bit harsh on Vincent which is a good reason to try him at FB. He is a bit of a terrier.
Arguably, the kind of formations which are not close to 4 – 4 – 2 make some sort of case for the manager to continue with Hippolyte.

What I want and what I get may be some distance apart, Cass.

Has there been one since he recovered from his bad injury?

Gonna keep saying it. I tell all new managers from Day One on here which are the pitfalls to avoid.
All then plunge straight into them without passing Go. And do not tell me that they don’t all come straight to this forum to find out the lie of the land!

I know twice as much about cricket than I do about football tactics yet I have unhappily been 100% spot on every time – the managers are wrong – me right. That really should not be!

NOT blowing my own trumpet – just utterly peed off!

Interesting. ZERO interest in any of our players. apparently

Started so well. Total control but did not often get the ball into danger areas.
Who lost the ball to set up the goal, BTW? – Bedeau? – Then Cordner suckered by the experienced man. Good goal but I was stunned.
That was nothing compared to 2nd half tactics which were lacking. What a shambles. You have control of midfield and opt to surrender it. Lost all of the effectiveness of Taylor by switching role. Thought Vincent had had his best game – off he went!
    Appalling goalkeeping.
Why no Onariase? We need him.
