Was it a one match ban?
Also – did I miss our punishment for the Chester fiasco?
One thing I’ve banged on about for years has been our failure to get balls beyond the GK and not having players coming in to meet the crosses.
We did this twice and very successfully on Saturday.
It was not quite as pictured with a 1970s style Percy Freeman or Ernie Moss or Alick Jeffrey plundering in from the edge of the box to nut it into the top corner but it was a big step in the right direction.I’m actually a bit concerned by the Brackley result.
Everyone is talking about us. However, we should be looking at this through the eyes of Brackley fans.
Was this really the side that was just pipped by Boston in the NLN final? Is this the side that looked the best defensive outfit in the NLN last season?
Is this the side that, largely, Scunny couldn’t cope with?
I’m hoping that this is all about our improvement being as huge as it looks BUT, to me, Brackley did not seem a patch on last season’s outfit. This was the difference between a Butler team and a JD team.
Not only were we far superior with fitness but the ‘stealing ball’ in all parts of the park was most impressive.
Cool and measured.
Ref 8.
Nobody less than a 7/10 in the first 11 on the pitch.
A great deal to like.1 user thanked author for this post.
I have family wanting to know where to get commentary. I found the National league commentaries on the route from last season but no sign of NLN.
(I could do with one myself to synch if no commentary today, just video.)Thanks again Cass. I couldn’t begin to explain what has cost me about 12+ hours of my life sorting out, over recent days. Computer whizz kids couldn’t do it.
Victory this am! Your help appreciated.
Now down to business. UTI.1 user thanked author for this post.
Well – obviously.
Friday pm – failed to make contact. Shut for the weekend now, apparently. Sigh.
Is it true that the Beeb has hidden where their commentaries are found online?
I am depending on finding one tomorrow in the usual place. Losing hope. You are a gentleman, sir.
It won’t even accept my emails!
Am starting to get very cross – not to mention more than a bit concerned.
Anyone got a phone number – there used to be one.Jotun selected Kian Scales as Friday’s man of the match following the encounter against Chesterfield.
I am quite prepared to see Scales start at Brackley but, last season, I often felt a slight sense of letdown from his play.
He is clearly a decent enough footballer who can: pass, move quickly and show a degree of intelligence. My complaint was always that there was no great amount of end product.
I am hoping that – if I was seeing it rightly – having AB in charge will allow us to see the lad at his best. There will surely be a Plan B with AB in charge.
I am interested to know what will happen if Plan A is failing. (Is 4-4-2 completely out of the window? – Yeah. 3-4-3?)I’ve criticised Clunan regularly since Christmas but he was my MOTM on Saturday and the same with Mrs Lesgeo. (Braithwaite a close second.)
I agree, WG.
This squad may be an overall notch behind that of last season – but replacements have largely bridged the gap AND we have team fitness as a bonus. What’s more – I suspect that we have a real manager this season.
I cannot believe that we could possibly end up below playoff level.Braithwaite – me like!
Won a lot of possession; passed with an eye to attack; was quickest of all the youngsters; some great turns and picked out passes that looked extremely difficult.1 user thanked author for this post.
Sorry but the club’s thinking is not unreasonable.

‘Most chances?’
Er – I recall a game at Stockport where Hooper was set up five times and missed ’em all.
One in two would be brilliant. On a slightly different tack – I would be able to get to many more games if we had regular 1pm kick offs.
I don’t really expect the club to arrange this just to make my life work a bit better. Mind you …There is no room for players like Adelakun in AB’s squad.
Okay, he had the ability to tear a team to shreds – but for me – his game average was just 5/10.
I am always deeply saddened when you see a potentially great player who disappears in so very many matches.I think you are right Mick. It’s presumably not the 33 year old Danish international.

Yes but can he match what Boxall could do?
I think that the ‘solid RB’ arrived yesterday.
Well. Maybe.

Time will probably tell.
Last season we had a squad which could have cruised this league if properly managed.
Squad 15% weaker (?) – properly managed and fitter – I think we’ll be top four.1 user thanked author for this post.
We are going to put out strong teams. These will probably be good enough to challenge in playoff territory; we must surely have a better manager than JD; we are gonna enjoy much better fitness.
We have covered Elliott; I agree that Ogle had weaknesses; Butterfield’s absence is trickier, however. We’ll certainly need goals from midfield to progress.
I see no real reason why we cannot make huge progress. Three wins, one draw and one defeat per five games is not too much to ask for in this division of very mixed quality.
Admittedly, injuries and suspensions do worry me.2 users thanked author for this post.
I’m in very regular touch with a retired pro ref who has seen the Iron more than a few times.
His comments on the quality of reffing in this division are very often harsher than what our fans write.
We all see the ‘big decisions’ but he sees ALL the things which refs should and should not do.
He tends to be regularly horrified.Great but the Portugal GK’s triple penalty save was beyond awesome.
Hunter has scored goals throughout his career – but few in the last year or two.
Better a fine than lost points.
