At last, dropped the ineffective back 5 formation and the team played a lot better today at Leamington.

Brogan was starman for me, and they all put a shift in.

Only negative point, their right full back had too much ball and too much space, which tells you that we are unbalanced on the left hand side.

Keep reading Andy for more pointers

It’s wet and windy here in Leamington, talking to a few Lemmings they know all about our dip in form and the reasons why!

They already know about our unpopular manager and his even more unpopular tactics.

I expect defeat today, and at best 1-1 draw. Hope I am ####### wrong.

When AB was a player he showed absolutely no loyalty to the Iron by moving clubs despite being offered a similar contract.

Loyalty works both ways Andy, bye.

The boards great work in saving the club, bringing back the feel good factor, actually playing some football and being entertained is being undone single handedly by Bulter.

The tide of goodwill that you could once surf on has diminished to such an extent it will barely wash away a trodden down sandcastle

Schofield is part of the problem and must go too.

2-1 down made substitutions and still played 5 across the back!!!!

Two players shone today Beck and Brogan the latter was our most creative player.

So you have a duel footed fullback in Kelly, and your most creative midfielder Brogan, so who would you put to fullback to maintain your 5 across the back?

Yes of course Andy, the answer is Kelly, you eventually got there and put Brogan back to midfield, after creating nothing for the 20 minutes he was at fullback.

You are hapless, floundering and well out of your depth.

    Bye.

Hope he is not told to get back into defensive position and stand off the keeper, letting him take the piss for 70 minutes until we are losing before the lad is allowed to run at him!

ABs post match interview kept going on about and reinforcing the system he plays.

If the system is so good why does he need to do that?

Buxton played three across the back extremely well, they didn’t crowd the defence or midfield with two wingbacks as ABs useless system does.

We are now at a precarious 4th with teams around us in better form and similar on points.

I have no faith in AB turning things around and we will be lucky to scrape into the playoffs at the current rate.

So how long do we persist before a managerial change is inevitable even to those in a position to do something about it.

Any new manager (and I do not want Schofield) would need time to settle, influence and turn things around.

Where is that point in the playing calender? It’s Christmas at the latest for me.

    What contribution is Schofield making?

Schofields contribution can easily be measured, last season Port Vale were relegated from League 1, this year they are top of League 2.

Luke Williams would be a desperate signing by a desperate manager.

A good debate on football, makes a welcome change from catering!

Well done to all taking part.

Clunan is not the problem for me, he is often alone in central midfield and when I look for an outlet when he is on the ball, I can’t see a forward one. Hence the far too regular passback.

It’s the structure again, with four midfielders Clunan would/should have two/three midfield outlets and dare I suggest an option to play forward balls into the channels.

Fitzsimmons is a first class keeper, all four centre halves are good and I would be happy with any of the four in any combination of two, with Barrows and Denton as fullbacks.

Brogan does look good but he tends to play alongside Clunan and fills the gaps created by Beestin and Scales, the latter was a revelation last season with his energy and running, because of the deficiency in midfield numbers, he has to do far too much work and I don’t think he knows where he needs to do that work.

Whitehall is a 20+ season striker and worth his weight in gold, when we feed him and he is in work mode, but he needs a foil alongside him.

Roberts is pure class with a footballers brain and I’d be happy with him upfront or wide right.

It’s great having all these opinions though cos there is only one that counts!!!!!

    FITZSIMMONS

    KOOGAN. EVANS. NICOLSON

    BARROWS. DENTON
    CLUNAN

    (ROBERTS) (ROBERTS). (ROBERTS)

    WHITEHALL

This is what I can see every game, where it goes wrong for me is structure in Midfield when Roberts (easily this season’s best player) in a free role moves from the right hand side.

The rest of the midfield then becomes lost and ineffective.

That’s why I am an advocate of 4-4-2 with Roberts up-front alongside Whitehall. Or Roberts right hand side of midfield and Carlton up top.

Butler does need to learn, but there are no signs that he is.

I haven’t spoken to a single fan who likes the team set up, and the fact that we play it very badly.

Now we are reliant on other teams losing to remain top, and some are worrying about the threat Buxton pose with their ‘game play’.

Sorry, but if we have an attacking style which is relentless and are on the front foot from the onset. Teams will be worrying about us, not the other way round.

I could not agree more Sharp_Shooter.

The poor on field activity is over-shadowing the good off-field activity at our club.

We have gone from a nine point lead to precariously perched on goal difference.

The clubs strengths you point out are being undermined by poor and negative management.

As another poster said “we don’t want to change the management but we want change from the management.”

But it won’t be long the rumblings are beginning.

He will, his long throw is keeping him in the team.

Fantastic. Can someone let Gus the Gorilla know he can join the team, since the only prerequisite is some long arms and a decent throw?

I hope this Gus is not another defender and certainly not a centre half?

Maybe Trinity’s system suits him, how would he fare in our team with the emphasis on defence?

I often watch Trinity and this lad plays alone upfront, often creating his own chances prior to finishing them.

He is worth a punt, and we could then play all four centre halves plus two full backs!

I did not mention Southport at all, merely the now eroded nine point cushion!

Southport were utterly rubbish first half and we should have been 2-0 up from Kian Scales effort.

What worries me is we ceased to be an attacking force when 3-2 down and we never had one shot in 7 injury time minutes.

The only plus was taking a defender off to drop the 5 across the back.

We were nine points clear. Threw two points away by being needlessly negative v Oxford, another two last week at Chester by not attacking once. Two away v Chorley from a late goal when winning to draw. Three v Scarborough who were very poor.

We are too negative by playing 5 across the back, which leaves us short I’m midfield or upfront.

Quite frankly this division is very poor and if we played to win each week we probably would.

Come on Andy play positive not negative when setting up the team.

Apollo there are aspects to Mr E which you point out that I would agree with whole heartedly.

Please don’t let that cloud your ability to see the whole picture of what went on behind the scenes to save our club.

Definitely not Simon or a statement from or on behalf of Simon, merely a concerned Iron supporter who worked closely behind the scenes with Simon and others long long before WHAM, was publicly exposed and derided.

The work that was undertaken then paved the way for a relatively quick takeover of the actual club. With plans afoot to secure the ground at a later date.

I knew it would attract some negative comments by posting an alternative view but I have never been afraid to hold my own opinion even if it does ebb against the tide.

To this day some people still do not know how toxic WHAM was. Nor do they know that FA intervention caused the ‘No longer funding statement’ prior to the Brackley FA cup away replay.

I have no idea what if anything has gone on behind the scenes, but the club is in good hands with the four shareholding directors whom I fully support.

For the record Simon built up a relationship with WHAM to try to limit the damage inflicted on our beloved club.

He worked behind the scenes with a lot of other people to resurrect our club and spent a lot of time and effort doing so.

I hope that Simon has not left the board on bad terms and is still a major player in the fortunes of Scunthorpe United FC in the future.

The club is in a totally better place than it was under Ernest or WHAM but there is still a long way to go before the club can return to League football and we need people like Simon around to make that happen.

I will point to the global companies who have sponsored us due to Simon’s connections primarily in the motor industry as one positive example.

Great turn out from the club including Russ Wilcox, Brian Laws, Cliff Bryne, Lee Turnbull, Steve Davy and Rick Green.

Quite humbling really a good send off for a good man.

Why did the club agree to play the match when your main 14 goal striker is just coming back from suspension?

Then to not start with Whitehall was absolute madness.

Wilson was merely pushed around all second half and Beestin was heavy legged and completely lost.

Siembe Ferris would have been a better starting option as he kept getting behind the Tamworth defence, with more time in the game that may have paid off.

Taking Elliot off was another baffling decision. I also agree that our style needs twerking as the midfield lacks bite.

Moving to 3 up front away at Farsley with Whitehall, Elliot and Roberts up top was a massive positive.

Yep still scarred by the Wilcox era, of trying to defend a slim lead and bringing defenders on in central midfield for the last few minutes and conceding.

We finished second instead of champions that season!

A great debate and some first class points of view, all relevant and well made.

There are no poor teams in this division, they all have very tall, strong defences and are quick on the counter attack.

We need to keep attacking and retain a capable strike force until the final whistle.

Hopefully the footballing brains at the club will be pointing this out to Mr Deans.

Lincoln City have been quite cute, there are fines for refusing to enter or fielding a weakened team.

Play an ineligible player and get kicked out free of charge.
