There was a time when playing Newcastle, Oxford, Peterborough meant we actually played Newcastle, Oxford, Peterborough

We need some loan players with something about them, our first reserves are really poor, not even semi-pro quality. Play whatever formation you want but if you cannot pass a ball 10 yards then it’s time to assess your employment options.

letting all the local idiots back in making the match day “experience” worse.

A bit harsh on Matt Ellis

So I would class a decent cup run as getting to the second round (how sad it is that I have to write this). So the £41k would do nicely.

I can agree that number 1 priority is getting out of this league, have a slightly different perspective in terms of additional revenue, even if it’s just £30-40k could help us get two/three better quality loan players – which we will need sooner rather than later. Also it would be nice to get a cup run because we haven’t had one for years; would be good to get a league club and see more than 45 supporters in the away end

I don’t think the 5-0 victory against Newcastle can be attributed to the Scarborough defeat. Poor selection and tactics put paid to our undefeated start. We weren’t playing great in the league for a few games prior to the defeat.

Joking aside I do find it a tricky scenario, short term gain, cheapening of a product with a lack of long term strategy (and no doubt needed to settle debts) v a tempering of the need to sponsor everything, the commercial manager should take care of the product being offered, there comes a tipping point in the strategy (or lack of) that other things get forgotten whilst rushing around for money. By rights the grove wharf stand should’ve been closed on the opening home game, no lights and no running water in the toilets. Getting a local company to sort stuff like that out for a few match tickets is sound business. Charging £20 to read out a message for a young fan is commercially reckless, and when you chase the money like that you might treat those less able to offer financial support more dismissively.

I think you’re right. There has to be a proper commercial strategy with this, just sponsor everything isn’t a strategy and I don’t know if we have the relevant expertise in the building (genuinely no idea)to formulate a coherent plan. There comes a point when it adversely affects at least one of businesses. Ironically the toilets probably do need a sponsor because it was a complete shambles last time

The worse bit about today was it had the feel of a Jimmy Dean approach. One blip is fine but we have not addressed the poor forward distribution and general bad passing. Fitness is all well and good but if you cannot do the basics (and there are players in our squad who are in this category) then you shouldn’t be playing for us. It’s time to get a loan player or two in.

Seems ultra defensive set up. Hope we’re not picking to nullify them. Reckon Boyce is in the back 3 and Evans as a sitting midfielder, don’t think Butler is that impressed with Shrimptom (or Fishburn if Boyce is up top?!). Shows how light we are up top though, hope they can dip into the loan market and get a decent league reserve.

I can see. 2-0 win but I can’t see anymore than 2,500 there, one stand is shut so they must know it’s going to be quite low. I’ll say 2,270

Jeez, why does it have to be rather have this than this…. why can’t we want both, like we’re not allowed a cup run and promotion, yes if it’s a binary choice of course promotion is number one but do we have to discount a cup run because we not allowed to have or wish for both. We concentrated on the league last year after the embarrassing exit, that worked well.

I don’t it was meant for today (in terms of money in the kitty) but a mini cup run brings in much needed money, can create a buzz around town, if we can progress into the proper rounds then the press/media may pick up on our achievement (how much did Maidstone get last year?). Just get to third round get a relatively large club, that’ll do.

Aside from a spell at the end it was really poor. Proper lack of quality. Nicholson somehow got worse in the second half kept on only for his throws no doubt (equally ineffective). Take each match as it comes, some we’ve played well other not great but won. This game the worst I’ve seen (I didn’t see Chorley). Butler needs to sort the passing out though, major concern.

Need to cut out these basic errors in passing, it’s becoming a common trend at the minute, only Beestin is showing a decent first and second touch, Cluinan giving the ball away too many times in dangerous positions, Nicholson and Barrows guilty of poor play hopefully Butler can instil some belief in their ability.

I predict a comfortable win but echoing the statements on here about poor passing creeping into our game, some of the distribution against Curzon was really poor. Not naming names but it was clear to see on Tuesday. Too many stray passes short and long (some of the long passes gid knows who they thought were in that area of the pitch). Cut those mistakes out and we’re really shaping up.

There’s good money to be earnt in an FA Cup run. With our hectic backstory maybe something the BBC may pick up on and televise us – all dependent on the draw. Although ticket money distributed differently the attendance would all be new revenue non season ticket holder – a good cup run could allow 3/4 decent loans to really strengthen the squad in the winter months.

Thing is we’ll need squad players like Shrimpton in the winter months when injuries kick in (assuming no loans). Roberts Beestin Law all injury prone. Do we send him out on loan to get game time if not injured

Butler is young enough to make mistakes and to act upon them. I am concerned about 3-5-2 with the two full backs in the ‘5’. This hasn’t worked at GP and at times the team look like they’re running around trying to work out the formation, and then can quickly sit back to a 5-3-2. Not only that it isn’t a great watch, never has been. Results wise 10 out of 12 is great, two more wins and we’re flying but 3-5-2 hasn’t worked at GP since they started experimenting, Roberts is wasted down the middle, Brogan/Beestinlooks a better option there with Roberts wide in one of the ‘5’ (going on the fact he’ll stick with the formation). Is Shrimtpon injured?

I would say that although I thought we lacked quality in most areas credit to Butler who made the right changes – very attack minded. I know Dean would not have made those changes at 0-0 in fact would’ve gone the other way (defensive). So it is a good sign that, away from home, Butler recognised the need to push on and get 3 scrappy points. Need to improve the passing and accuracy.

With a small squad at our disposal are we looking at the loan market? (Assume it would be post August when we could potentially get a League 1/2 reserve)
