Simon Elliot on Facebook suggesting SUFC have acquired two plots: a 19 acre plot and 14 acre plot as shown below. Boards up at both plots.

    glebe

    Sites acquired no less.

Hilton’s been busy! He appeared on the Iron Army podcast at the beginning of April and he stated that a deal would be done with Peter Swann (that’s after the initial press release from the club confirming a deal had been done). Now, in less than 6 weeks, he’s managed to identify and complete (that’s what acquired means) on two pieces of land. Quite the achievement even if I do say so myself.

I will check the title deeds later.

Cliff – A new ground from start to finish will take 3 years and that’s with a supportive planning office. For a basic, 10,000 seater stadia the cost will be north of £13M in the current climate, many multiples of what Peter Swann will have wanted.

This is a bit of flexing on Hilton’s part.

so there’s no embargo then? one rumour down, how many to go?

Technically the players have not signed because their registrations can’t be transferred and registered with the League until July. What exists will be a pre contract agreement between the club and player. Therefore today’s announcement does not nullify the rumour.

I have heard Mark Ives speak at length on the subject of transfer embargoes. Although I have no confidence in Ives, it is my understanding that HMRC share information with the National League on clubs to confirm payments relating to VAT & PAYE are up to date. Also defaults on football related liabilities between clubs will lead to an embargo. In reality I am not sure the club’s pension provider is in any position to share information on potential defaults which would result in a transfer embargo. I might be wrong.

Scunthorpe United is a football club , its a fans forum so questions should be about the club the plans moving forward and its future ..i dont give a rats arse what Hilton has done in the past and what good will it do fans delving into his past i want the deal to go through and the club to survive and prosper for the benefit of the town and all involved including staff and supporters.

Im not privvy to any inside info just hope the very negative things we are hearing be it truth gossip rumour or fact dont happen as the thought of ground sharing , going bust would be a disaster for so many.

Not long to wait to find out more info via the forum ..then on to the 24th May deadline

    UTI

I know you will be in good company. The majority of people come away from events like this feeling great because they have had hot air blown up their bottoms from start to finish . Whether or not what is said withstands scrutiny is another matter entirely.

The logic of not caring about Hilton is flawed and I doubt you would apply the same logic to other things that you hold dear to your heart. If you care for your club you should have an interest in who owns it.

I hope some of your prominent supporters have met to agree a coordinated approach to asking questions of Hilton. No subjects should be off limits.

A good starting point should be his history, reasons for his name changes (he’s only acknowledged the White/Hilton change), lack of any proven track record and financial success in business, his personal wealth, reason why his company accounts are overdue, the legal dispute with Stoneygate 2007. These subjects are pertinent in understanding how he operates and what you can expect. For those saying you are not bothered about this, you are simply sticking your heads in the sand.

The second subject should be the terms of sale which he agreed with Peter Swann and the funding of the same. I expect the transfer of the club’s shares was done at £0 on the understanding that Hilton would agree to take on the existing liabilities. Obviously the purchase of the ground, training ground, surrounding land and naming rights is a whole different ball game – given that Hilton said he would not be financing the club with loans, where was the money coming from to purchase the freehold?

Questions about football and a whole host of other peripheral subjects are really immaterial at this stage.

Given the number of years Hilton has been involved at Ilkeston there appears to be a lack of interviews both on and off camera and the fact he’s doing a fans’ forum at your place suggests to me that he needs you more than you need him.

Stick to the facts, keep it polite but don’t let the night and agenda be dictated to you.

Bit of a dumb question there Deerey, why would anyone buy a football club “come on”. His explanation and he did give one in the interview at ilkeston is to save the club and make it sustainable and take all the kudos from doing so, I believe he said leave a legacy as well even though it would cost his family in the long run (can’t be arsed to listen to it again please say if I’ve got it wrong) that’s fair enough in my book, all Swanny wanted to do was build a new ground whether it was at Gainsborough or at Scunny but sadly fell well short, so his legacy is one of abject failure.

Ha ha. In fact, ha, ha, ha.

A legacy, what about the project at Ilkeston? In October 2019, Ilkeston released details of a £2M ground revamp and again in February 2022, a £3M redevelopment. A vanity project with the main elements never seeing the light of day.

Pat O Cake is a hilton apologist and no doubt be will be applauding like a seal when he announces the deal has gone to shit and we won’t be playing at Glanford in august. i am also sure it will be Swann fault that hilton hasn’t got the money to pay what he owes and what he agreed

A hyperbolic term maybe, but the facts are that we don’t know his plans, and some of his decisions have been poor to date. Yet some seem to bash anyone remotely critical or sceptical of Hilton, and I am not just talking about the wild conspiracists either. They get called Swann lovers, codheads in disguise and more. It’s them who need to have a word with themselves in my opinion, because while it’s welcome Hilton moved for the club, we have to be grounded and sceptical, in my opinion.

Instead such gets greeted with accusations of hating Hilton or wanting the club to fail. Same sort of rhetoric used against Swann critics, of which I was one, post-2020ish.

Can you elaborate on what qualifies as a wild conspiracy, please? Just for future reference you understand.

Just out of interest iron insider where were you for the 5 years the Swann’s were destroying the football club?

Or have you only become the font of all knowledge since Hilton came on the scene?

Probably just a coincidence you and uninteresting bystander arrived at the same time as Hilton.

The problem with you and supporters like you, is that you are unable to debate with people who hold a different point of view. It is much easier for you to call people names than to engage in any worthwhile discussion.

Without wishing to be disrespectful to IronInsider who clearly has some good snippets and is better placed on internal matters than I, I am in a different place on other subjects.

TBF Rene, certain people have come on here and made claims regarding the new owner not having the financial ability to complete the purchase of GP and surrounding land on May 24th, all others have said is that without proof their claims mean nothing. They say one thing and others disagree but conjecture has never been helpful when trying to have an honest debate based on facts, that’s all most sensible minded individuals want don’t they?

    Some thoughts:

    1) Individuals who are able to purchase and finance loss making football clubs need to be extremely wealthy and have liquid funds on tap. Such individuals generally have a clear history of how their wealth has been obtained. These high net worth individuals buy assets which generate them a return, they are not reliant on third party funders, they use their own money because they are the bank!

    2) In Hilton’s interview which was released on the club’s website on 02/04/23, he made the claim that he has put £3M into Ilkeston. I have looked at their balance sheet and there is no significant change to their fixed assets or net worth under his stewardship to show where the £3M has been invested.

    3) Hilton claims to have told the National League that he will not be funding the club with loans.

    4) If you look at the last set of accounts filed for Hilton’s business (Maxwell Cohen Ltd), assets total the best part of £2M including a bank balance of £2,023 and liabilities total the best part of £2.5M, the majority of which is long term debt relating to secured loans provided by Stoneygate 2007 Ltd & Westfoot Investments Ltd. Now if Hilton has sufficient personal wealth to purchase the freehold and finance the football club, I would have expected Hilton to have personally financed his own business by providing director’s loans and for his business to pay him interest on those loans. Why pay a third party funder if you can pay yourself?

    5) If the Swann family are keen to do a deal on the stadium, naming rights and surrounding land and there are no restrictive covenants, I estimate Hilton needs somewhere between £3.5M and £5M to get the deal done and to see the club through the next 12 months. Remembering point 3, where is the money coming from?

    I just don’t get it.

I haven’t really heard much of the Iron Hour. I gave the one with Hilton a spin and have since skipped through a couple of the others, but wouldn’t class myself as a regular listener. Whilst they are definitely approaching it differently, they are giving it a good go and the production value has increased massively since the first episode. We too had teething issues when we started out, so it was good to see they managed to overcome those pretty quickly.

It seems to have been fairly well received and they deserve a lot of credit for sticking their heads above the parapet. You are certainly there to be shot at, as I well know. We tried our best with Swann, but ultimately that was never enough for many which is why we decided not to approach DH for an interview. I am sure, having seen some of the questions that were sent in for their interview with DH, that they may now appreciate how difficult a job we had.

It has been a real struggle to find the motivation to record a weekly IB podcast with the club in such turmoil. That said, listener numbers are still very good and have not been affected by the Iron Hour, so we are definitely going to continue until the day that changes.

We are recording a new episode this week and will then do a number of summer specials including the KVV episode which is on the way.

I’ve also been in touch with somebody else today to confirm another episode that we are doing next week. We will probably keep that one under wraps until we have recorded it and it will be shorter than usual, but the guest should prove excellent value!

For background purposes I have listened to a number of episodes from both the Iron Bru and Iron Army podcasts and even if you had requested an interview with Hilton I doubt one would have been forthcoming. The quality of the two podcasts are miles apart and some prefer to pick their battles wisely!

I hope you have Kieran Maguire or David Conn lined up.

Club employees have not received any pension contributions into their pension pots for FOUR MONTHS despite monthly contributions coming out of their pay packets and yet super Dave believes it is appropriate to turn up in a new Rolls Royce. Max bell will be frothing at the mouth considerin he was so vocal about Mr Swannees horses.

Has Hilton been asked about it? Do you know if PAYE is up to date?

Simon only relayed what David told him (said he’d spoke to him). I guess supporters accept that explanation or not? Nothing else to go on.

It’s nothing new. Club owner/director uses a third party, usually an individual with some standing with the intended audience to convey a message. If I was Simon, it wouldn’t be something which I would be getting involved in. Hilton has a mouth and so does the club.

If a few people on Twitter questioning his background are enough to make him give up then being a football club owner probably isn’t for him. From what I’ve seen this week at least a couple of Scunthorpe supporting twitter accounts that got involved have deleted themselves so obviously Twitter isn’t for them.

You have failed to mention that one of those had a picture of their house sent to them on Twitter by a new account “samfran98959645”, an account which has now been deleted.

Has any explanation been given regarding the payroll issue? I see Simon Elliott has said a lot without actually explaining what the issue is. He’s even suggested a supporter doesn’t know what he’s talking about yet Elliott appears to be in the same boat!

When an estalished business transfers to a new banking provider, they will want to know the level of business which will be going through the account, payroll size, average transaction value as well as a host of other things to understand your requirements and to ensure the switch is as smooth as possible.

To suggest Friday’s blip was due to a new bank account or a daily payment limit is not really a valid reason.

Full marks to Iron Insider, first with the news again.

This afternoon’s run got me thinking –

    1) Newly established fake accounts on social media making threats – Is this a first for Scunthorpe? When did it start and did it coincide with anything else? Is it solely targeted towards critics? Is the aim to silence those critics or to paint Hilton in a bad light? Who started using words like toxic and divided to describe the fanbase or phrases like club killers? We know similar went off at Bury.

A lot of these accounts have now been deleted but the screenshots haven’t.

    2) Club chairmen on social media – Name me a football club chairman who interacts with fans on social media in the way Hilton did and in the style he did. Did anything positive come of it?

    3) Will the recent conduct of some dissipate or continue and what impact is it likely to have on your club in the future?

    4) Simon Elliott – I see he’s championing the Football Association’s Fit & Proper test on social media, does he not read the press?

    5) The document is still being hosted, why? Hilton made reference to his good standing in a recent interview, surely his professional advisors should have had this pulled down before now with action pending against the author and publisher?

My overriding thought is that your club deserves better and some of the recent ongoings are questionable and leave a lot to be desired.

Yes Deerey that may be the case but when you get countless morons appear on bru as new accounts who just love to shit stir, gossip and cause division it kind of makes rational conversations a little challenging.

I’ve seen the same happen on twitter too but on a much larger scale.

Most certainly a line has now been crossed.

As for what has been posted elsewhere, in part, some of the terms used are extremely lazy to say the least and the individual behind it has dropped a right ricket with one statement. The more eyebrow raising content is similar to what was sent to Hilton on Twitter before he closed his account.

Given the severity of the content I don’t think it is something which can be ignored.

Any idea why the original press release (https://www.scunthorpe-united.co.uk/news/2023/january/club-statement/) published by the club on 25/01/23 was a little premature with the narrative?

Could be completely unconnected but I’ve seen this sort of thing recently following the links Iron Bystander posted. What the truth is, and the root of the accounts, is unknown. But any wonder there’s increased paranoia?

The accounts are merely noise and a poor attempt to distract.

I know Hilton’s done a u-turn on training at Ilkeston but you have to question his original thinking after listening to the Iron Army interview. It looks to me like he wasn’t prepared to spend money on a training pitch he will own in a few weeks but he was prepared to spend money on a pitch at Ilkeston which he no longer owns. Why?

Iron Army – In Conversation with David Hilton (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmPr9RIiKyA&t=720s)

    17 MINUTES/40 IN
Training pitch at Scunthorpe (owned by Swann) is not fit for purpose. No draining and pitch requires a £27,000 renovation.

    24 MINUTES/15 IN
No fee to train at Ilkeston. There is a grass pitch out the back which will need renovating to enable Scunthorpe to train on it.

    57 MINUTES/15 IN
The pitch (at Ilkeston) needs drainage installing.
