I don’t believe in a god, the god I least believe in is the Christian God, because it’s the god I’ve been taught the most about. I am not ruling out the possibility of a god, I just don’t believe it to be true. Technically I’m agnostic (I don’t claim to be 100% correct because nobody knows for sure – even fundamentalists), but I use the term atheist, as my main “belief” is there is no god.
But my morality is not based on the commandments (the first 4 commandments don’t seem that moral). The question “would you commit murder, rape or robbery if you knew that no God existed?” very few people would answer “yes”, undermining the claim that religion is needed to make us behave morally. I worry about people who think they would rape and murder if there is no god, as that is not morality, that is just being scared of punishment. Having said that, if the only thing stopping bpg from raping and pillaging is watching fundamentalist videos, then please carry on watching your videos.1 user thanked author for this post.
Is there “more to life” for all species, or just the species that wrote the book?
The verging on the ridiculous birth must have been a revelation, after being convinced the Romans were going to have their one and only census that required going back to their birthplace (just imagine the impact on the empire, particularly losing people over the changing borders), and then being convinced that Gabriel and Mary’s baby was magic
The original post was just a cut and paste job, and so is my response:
The problem with the TAG (transcendental argument for God, or TAG, as popularized by Matt Slick of Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry) is that the laws of logic are descriptive, not prescriptive. In other words, the laws are simply a description of things we know to be true. The universe does not conform to logical absolutes because someone thought them up and is holding reality to that standard. These absolutes exist purely to describe patterns that we have observed as true in reality. To understand the difference between a descriptive and prescriptive law, consider this example:
Gravity is a descriptive law. Isaac Newton didn’t create gravity. It existed before he identified it and would have continued existing regardless of whether he had ever given it a name. The laws of gravity are simply observations made by scientists that explain natural processes.
The traffic speed limit is a prescriptive law. It was created and enforced by people, and it’s meaningless without such enforcement. If no one came up with a speeding limit or held people accountable for speeding, speed limits would cease to exist.
I’m sure any “debate” video posted by bpg will be suitably impartial and unbiased. But when bombarded with endless impartial and unbiased videos it’s difficult to carry on watching them
Bpg, do you think your approach to evangelising works? How many people do you think you have saved? I think your approach is going to push people further away from your religion rather than pull them in. Is your evangelising meant to attract followers, or is it just to appease yourself? I started watching your video, but I gave up on it early on.
There is plenty of controversy about the practises, medical care and money involved in Mother Teresa’s life, but I wouldn’t worship a being who would theoretically place Jeffrey Dahmer above her. But when your deity considers inventing light refraction a suitable apology for mass murder…
You’re not really selling this heaven malarkey. Eternity with Jeffrey Dahmer and Billy Graham doesn’t sound like much fun.
Not believing in the Christian God doesn’t mean not believing in the person (or people) to whom stories have been attributed to.
Had abortion been an option, do you think Gabriel would have convinced Mary to do so, rather than trying to convince Joseph that magic had happened when Gabriel came ? Or maybe the lure of cheap wine and lots of fish would’ve convince him not to ?
Apparently there’s been a huge rise in sales of 2nd hand dinghies around the channel. Up to 95% of immigration traffickers in the channel region are out of business since Jenrick’s statement. Children worldwide have decided en masse to stay in war torn countries, on finding there will be no Disney murals in KIU.
I’m not sure the Mrs Merton show would have been so successful, if it was a theological debate between the host and a nun. One of the reasons why people get annoyed by bpg’s posts, is the absolute certainty in his belief. The absolute certainty that has been responsible for many atrocities. “Why do you believe Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven?” would be a reasonable question, leading to a very similar answer. A little uncertainty in one’s belief, whether it’s theist or atheist, can help.
“somebody who prays a lot” is NOT the opposite of a terrorist, regardless of what Fox news says. Religiously inspired terrorism is one of the major sources of terrorism, probably second only behind ethno-nationlist (with a lot of overlap between the two).
I think arresting a nutter who silently prays near clinics, is a waste of police time (if that is all she does, if she preys on woman at their most vulnerable then she gets what she deserves), but if that’s all she does, then why bother travelling there, why not pray at home ? Or does her god only listen when you appear as a nutter? A god who is undiverted by the starving masses but who’s interests are purely on middle class white women hanging around street corners?
Oh but he said sorry by producing light refraction as an emblem of the gay movement

I’m not trawling through posts for examples, but you’ve posted against other Christians on this board (JI, LesGeo and others) essentially claiming they are not as Christian as you. You’ve posted against the Archbishop of Canterbury because his Christian “worldview” doesn’t match yours. Your “worldview” seems to be taken directly from American TV Envangelism, where the pastors tell their sheep to give up their riches, straight to the pastor’s helipad and camel sized needle
Your posts openly attack other interpretations of the same faith, it’s hardly inclusive
Your comment about what consequences are going to happen if we rebel against the book, your interpretation of said book and the main character in the book, is based purely on your “worldview”. A worldview which is based on the interpretation of various stories, from 1000’s of years ago, further interpredated by various leaders, and taught to you. There are many people who believe in the same book as you, but far less who agree with the interpretations you follow (hence the narrow in my comment). There are many other books and many other interpretations that go against. None of us know, for sure, if there is a deity, it is all based on personal faith. I personally don’t believe a story that required the people in the Roman empire to travel to their birthplace for a census (given the fluid borders and size of the empire), but I could be wrong. Unfortunately, on internet forums your style of evangelism is divisive, and the comments against your interpretation can appear to be against the entire religion. I have nothing against 99% of people with religion (I was at church with my family the other Sunday, I’m not a believer but my wife is), but your narrow worldview is something to rail against
“just putting the consequences of following this worldview”. According to your own increasingly narrow worldview.

Wasn’t leading “to chaos and misery” the slogan of Brexit ?
They have been been redefining incompetency since 2010. I used to think Cameron was incompetent, but compared to what has followed he is starting to look good
What was the number one issue the public wanted sorting?
I didn’t vote for Brexit, but I assume it was to leave the EU at any cost.
Have the government implemented this wish?
Considering Brexit has gone pretty much how I expected, I think they have implemented it better than they have implemented other things
Have the public been let down by an incompetent government?
Yes

In my opinion, the way to reduce the impact of traffikers over the channel is not to use policies that go against the UN refugee convention and to use divisive and racist rhetoric, rather provide a legal way for refugee applications, then we can have the debate about numbers. There is currently no legal way to travel to the UK for the specific purpose of seeking asylum – but they can only apply for asylum when they are here, yet everybody has the right to apply for asylum (there is no such thing as an illegal asylum seeker).
The Conservative approach to refugees seems to correctly open the borders to white refugees (Ukraine) but to close them for non-white refugees. The argument that people should apply in the first “safe” country is fundamentally flawed, it goes against the refugee convention for good reason – if all refugees settled in the first safe country, it would massively increase the potential for similar problems in that country. Also, why shouldn’t an English speaking refugee apply for asylum in an English speaking country?
The right-wing press give us the impression that UK is the most popular destination but in reality most refugees apply in neighbouring countries, Syrian refugees make up almost 20% of Lebanon’s population, Jordan houses 3 million. In Europe, we have less refugees than Italy, Sweden, France, etc despite being more populous. Germany house 1.15 million (0.31%), while we house 0.13 million (0.18%)
Lineker’s tweet (on his personal twitter account, not on a BBC programme) gave his opinion on the current government rhetoric, an opinion I share (but people are welcome to disagree). The Conservative governments lead by Johnson, Truss and Sunak have been using divisive language and have been blaming foreigners for their own mistakes. The kind of rhetoric that precedes some of the worst moments in world history. I’m not a Tory (obviously), but I can respect (and disagree with) Cameron, Major and Hague’s conservative governments, but its very difficult to respect the recent incarnations.

Watched the Tranmere game on iFollow at a friend’s, he used NordVPN and we had no issues
The positive: 2-0 Scunny thanks to two lucky deflections and red cards/injuries.
The negative: Our last 3 pointer in the football league.
A lucky win gives PS an excuse to keep things as they stand.
It’s so depressing, even when we’ve been near the bottom facing reelection, or narrowly avoiding the drop we’ve had “something” that gave us hope that we would either survive or recover if we dropped. We’ve had terrible squads before, but they’ve had “something” (they’ve lacked skill but had “fight”).
As a Scunthorpe United fan, I don’t expect success, I don’t go to a game expecting 3 points, but I do expect “something”.
But at the moment I don’t see “anything” that could provide hope.
The pessimists have got it right this time.8 users thanked author for this post.
Quite funny to see alcy claim to not be fooled by snake oil salesmen, when the non football forum is bursting with snake oil salesmen videos that alcy has posted and swallowed blindly.

October Twelve years ago, we had Newcastle and Sheffield United fans saying similar
And does anyone, hand on heart, think we’ll ever get back into the league, given a management who appear clueless, and a chairman who apparently no longer cares?
Clueless management can be changed easily (in comparison to the others), but the chairman and low crowds would make it very difficult – it’s difficult to see us dealing with relegation any better than York City, Stockport County, Torquay United, Wrexham, etc
Alcazar, I can’t speak for Heath but I also comment more on these topics. I now live away from Scunny and with young kids I don’t get the chance to watch many games these days – so I read the football posts to get a better idea of what is going on at Glanford Park, I rarely comment because I don’t have much to contribute on these topics. Had this board been around in the 90’s I would have contributed more. But for some of the topics, like this one, I do have an opinion.
