I have a memory of him being a very small but quite tough midfield schemer. If he still has it, would potentially be an upgrade on Spence but is that really the direction to take things in?
Chicken and egg Cass – who’s going to make the run if they know the cross won’t come?
Eisa was good at Oldham, he got down the outside a few times and really made life hard for their defence at times. The full-back marking him should have been sent off for hacking him down in the second half, a sure sign Eisa was well on top.
But Saturday’s performance was really disappointing.
When Green and Hippolyte came on we were two players down.
Apart from when Green set up Rowe for the best chance we created all match?
Eisa, instead of cutting inside all the time needs to go around the outside of his FB, he has the pace but never usually does it.
He was terrible yesterday, just kept running inside and losing the ball. Their right back was good but Eisa needs to be a bit brighter and try to ask different questions of the defender.
Looks like Alexander Arnold
I thought that too!
Anything to keep Gilliead and Eisa out wide.
Thought we looked a bit more dangerous with Spence on the right and Gilliead inside this afternoon.
Spence is fine but I prefer Beestin on current showing.Pretty low percentage shot from that angle, he did well to hit the post. McAtee was unmarked and an easy pass. Poor choice.
I’m dubious about the GK but he’s 10% better than what we have. Back four if they continue like last night will help massively.
I agree with this, I’ve seen very little from him to convince me, mainly flapping at crosses and not commanding his area. Still, the defenders seem more confident with him there which makes a big difference.
KVV reminds me of PH and for me a new contract should be on the table even in these uncertain times.
You would have thought it would be a no-brainer, offer a contract so if nothing else the club can command a transfer fee at some point in the future but who knows how these things will pan out. I wonder how KVV will see it himself after a less-than-successful spell at Northampton.
Let Beestin and Spence break up play and give the ball to Gilliead, Eisa, KVV or Loft and let them do what they do best. Green on against tiring legs for 20/30 minutes would do for me
Fair enough Cass, maybe horses for courses? At home, with teams sitting deeper, I think we’ll need a bit more guile in midfield though.
It would be a shame for him never to get a proper chance but maybe he just needs a fresh start. The chance to recoup some money on wages & the odd transfer fee cannot be ignored. It’s not like we’re short of strikers anyway.
FWIW, I think Dunnwald-Turan is probably better suited to being the second striker than being Loft-lite.
Let’s not forget, if Loft wasn’t so unlucky last night and he scored we would have won 2-0 away from home against a top 6 side.
If and buts. If Loft hadn’t been so greedy and had squared it to a completely unmarked McAtee….
I like the look of Hallam, his finish against Carlisle showed he’s got something worth persisting with I reckon.
Pretty obvious that KVV back has brought us a better shape and look upfront. Same with Hayes in the past. If he was injured we’d conjure up nothing as there was no outlet.
I agree on that, I thought KVV’s performance at Oldham was just like watching Hayes again. Combined with the pace and running of Eisa on the flank, he really carried a threat. Much as I don’t think Loft is going to score many goals, his ability to occupy defenders will help to make plenty of goals for KVV.
Is that what you call them ferrite.
I’d beg to differ if our next best is mcatee he did nothing when he came on. Turan is garbage.
So yeah get rid of the chaff that we have.
It’s so simple isn’t it?
Can we bring any loan strikers in?? Or any on the scrap heap.
How many more do you want? There are three or four not even in the squad tonight!
And there we have it – Van Veen off with what looks like a muscle injury. The golden goose has been hobbled.
Wouldn’t disagree with that Heath, aside from the fact that we have to hope the management will listen to the physio team if they flag up concerns over anyone’s fitness.
I think Kev can now be considered fully match fit.
Clearly wanted to see it to the end on Saturday.I would not go that far yet, the body takes time to build up to full strength and it would be easy to push it too hard and see him suffer a muscle injury. I would not want to see him play a full 90 minutes yet, especially on the back of 80+ on Saturday, he’s too important for this team.
Plenty to welcome in there but the proof of the pudding will be in the eating.
We are talking about that, yes, but I have previously mentioned reading a game and the need for intelligence. A bit of leading by example is no bad thing.
I completely agree with you but that didn’t seem to be the point you were making earlier in the thread with phrases like “drill sargeant” and “bawling his lungs out”.
Having taught in both the state sector and the private – I can tell you that, for me, the single largest reason why state schools get poorer results is that the independent sector is considerably less tolerant of failure.
Having been educated in both systems, I think this is much more down to the high quality of teaching & other resources in the private sector. A class of 15 is a very different beast from a class of 30. The private sector probably demands higher standards and sets higher expectations but it also has a far greater chance of achieving them. Failure is relative.
Just shouting at people as a motivational tactic is antediluvian.
I still think that promotion in 2014 was under rated not least because Wilcox had to pick up Laws’ mess and cope with a huge number of new signings. Yes he had some good players and in Winnall we had a really reliable goalscorer but we had 14 players in and 10 players out that season, coming on the back of a terrible relegation season. It was a big achievement to get us up, no matter how it was done.
But it set a pattern for just continuously signing more players. How many youth team prospects have become first teamers in Swann’s time? Adelakun, you could argue, though he came through before Swann I think. Anyone else I’m missing? There must be someone!
It all sounded a bit amateurish to me.
Agreed. Which is why I thought there were some follow-up questions that Matt Dean should have asked of Swann but didn’t.
Hallam should be playing over Taylor, surely? No point in playing loanees if they’re no better than our own players.
I don’t get the British obsession with shouting in football. It is possible to show leadership & bravery in other ways.
2-1 win for the Iron, despite conceding an early penalty, again.
Loft to partner Fela, KvV to come off the bench and set up the winner.
So Watson up front then?
Given the stick he gets on here for his keeping, how many would disagree with that?
I thought Dean’s questions of Rob were fair, I thought he could have asked more questions of Swann.
I don’t think playing yet another player out of position is the answer.
Better than signing another player or sacking another manager which seem to be the other options being suggested?
Also, it gets him out of centre back where he’s not been great. Sometimes a player’s given position is not his best position.
Very well said. Hard to disagree with much of it.
I was confused why he mentioned the wage cap.
I agree that the midfield is the biggest problem at the moment but I don’t know how to go about settling that issue.
Maybe Bedeau could make a difference in midfield? I’ve not been impressed with him at centre back but he can play a bit and he could give us a bit of bite in there.
Essentially a reserve team fixture then? That makes more sense.
