Does seem pretty odd!
MORE signings?
Bedeau’s a funny one. He *looks* a good player, has all the right attributes, right up until that moment when it all goes wrong….
I don’t think fan ownership is the answer, fans can’t agree on things on this board so there would be no chance agreeing in the boardroom.
So you are ignoring the success of Exeter & Wimbledon, or Bayern Munich, or even Real Madrid & Barcelona to a lesser extent?
It works because the board members are elected by the fans. They are their representatives. Even mega clubs like Real Madrid & Barca have elected presidents, not some random rich bloke who buys up all the shares.
How much funding could you put in pat?.
Doesn’t have to be that much if there are enough of us. Exeter have been fan-owned for years. Wimbledon are fan-owned and have just built a brand new stadium in London!
Incidentally, fan-owned doesn’t mean that wealthy individuals can’t invest, they just don’t get to have a majority stake. For example, in Germany clubs have to have at least 50% of the shares owned by its members, rather than investors. So we could go down that route and Mr Swann or any other person who loves the club and wanted to invest could do so but they wouldn’t be able to own it or take decisions without the approval of a majority of the members. Seems like the best of both worlds, no?
I’d argue Rowe was a competent footballer and Cordner isn’t.
Clarke has played Centre Back plenty of times so Rowe can slot in at RB.
100% agree. Clarke, for me, has played his best games at centre back.
Are we not able to sign a player on a one month deal during January?
Wouldn’t really help come February though. A bit more flexibility would definitely help clubs at the minute though.
Not going to happen now WG with non-league football shutting down unless there are Conference clubs interested but I’d be surprised if they were.
Meh. I’ll be surprised if many people remember him in 12 months’ time!
3 goals this season, 13 last season. I wonder if people are still thinking of the same Tom Pope.
Either way, I wouldn’t want him on a contract beyond the end of the current season.
Cheers MM, I must had misremembered it.
Was Bailey not from Crewe? He didn’t look a very good striker, either way.
Bit harsh on Andy Parton in my opinion, he had a bit about him. He does not deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Tomi Ameobi.
Generally, I’ve not had a huge problem with his finishing, the bigger issue has been his first touch and his passing. He simply cannot control the ball or find a team-mate. Second touch is usually a throw-in!
Five Ryan Lofts do not equal one Andy Keogh.
Maybe a Matt Bailey instead, the guy who started ahead of Keogh when they joined on loan?
Green is developing nicely.
Going to be a solid player – perhaps better. And his first Iron goal today!
Alcy, what about the current government which voted against a proposal to scrap VAT on sanitary products in 2015? Or does that not fit your narrative?
Anything is possible!
But given Swann was saying “we will struggle to finish the season” in his recent message, how can we be contemplating new signings?
I thought Gillead was poor playing centrally at the start of the season and thought Ferrite was mad to suggest moving him back there but maybe there is something in it.
Maybe he was poor at the start becasue we were so shit as a whole.
With Green on the right it could work thought both did well last night.
I think Green will offer more going forward and with a fitter/sharper Clarke at right-back, the need to put Gilliead out there for his defensive attributes is less pressing.
I think you’re right about the start of the season, especially with the lack of options up front.
Amongst all the woolly coulds, mights, maybes, and probablys, we have our first 100% positive:
Tampon tax will be zero from the April budget.
Previously, or: during the last 47 years, the EU has insisted we levy VAT on sanitary products, deeming them “luxury items”.😠
It used to be 17.5%, then lowered to 5%,but could go no lower while we remained a member of the odious club. This is going to shock a lot of people but this is not actually true. I know, it’s incredible, a misleading story about membership of the EU. Who would have thought it?
It will be interesting to see if SUFC have undertaken similar improvements since the turnstiles closed in March.
Or are we waiting for NLC to grant full planning permission for the refurbishment/rebuild?
There are plenty of things which could have been done at any point over the last 7 years but given we’re going to be moving into a new stadium any moment now I guess there’s no point.
December 28, 2020 at 11:59 am in reply to: What happened to the team that played at harrogate. #199823Consistency. We have too many players who have one good game in 4 or 5, that’s why they’re NL standard. Enough of them had that good game at the same time, could be due again soon as nobody has had a decent game recently.
Exactly this: bad teams are not always bad, they sometimes have good moments when it all comes together. More often than not, nothing comes together and it all falls apart.
All of the following absolutely needed to be sacked according to plenty of folk on here:
Wilcox
Hurst
McCall
Daws
AlexanderHas any of those sackings made even a shread of positive difference to the state of the club? Has our decline even been paused for a few minutes since Alexander left?
If this is the word team in 60 years (and as I’m not old enough to remember the mid-70s, I will take your word for it), then surely the manager has to be cut some slack for the fact he’s been dealt some absolutely terrible cards?
Watching it again, I am starting to think that Howard is a worse keeper than Watson. At least Watson makes some decent saves among all the mistakes. Howard’s mistakes aren’t as glaring but equally he doesn’t do anything do offset them.
Abysmal goalkeeping, his “reaction” for Onarise’s own goal was slower than a Cliff Byrne jog! And as for the third goal….
I guess this is what happens when you fail to plan properly and end up making signings out of desperation. It’s rarely a recipe for success.
Could be just what they need if they’re looking to build a new stadium?
Isn’t their current owner a member of the council?
Interesting point is him claiming that Fenty is apparently selling up. I hope they don’t end up with the sort of cowboy owner we’ve seen at many other clubs, not even the Cods deserve that.
Clearly not the worst player but I do sometimes wonder what others see in him that I’m missing.
I still think he’s wasted out wide, would be a much better option alongside one of Spence or Beestin who, for me, are too similar as a midfield pairing.
There’s a sense that we haven’t left the club, it’s more like the club has left us.
Amen to that.
May I refer you to Carl Bradshaw and Craig Shakespeare?
Both of them had a bit more about them, I would say. Mark Gavin was the benchmark for a long time.
Or this NI?
