11 Bishops? Jeez, I would not pay to watch that team. Most over-rated player in Scunthorpe’s history.
24 march 2018 the day we sacked Graham Alexander
A symptom of worrying about not reaching the Championship and a panicked response?
‘A’ Toney would have probably signed for us in the championship rather than Peterborough in a lower league then always a chance of staying there with a class striker, even if he wasn’t appreciated here.
I think that’s entirely possible. But would that have dug an even deeper financial hole?
It’s a question I’ve asked before but I do wonder whether if we’d have won promotion under Alexander would we have been:
a) better off and living in a land of milk & honey for the last 5 years
b) have fallen back down the leagues just as quickly and maybe even have gone bust?I’d hope for a) but I do wonder if b) was the most likely.
145% wages-to-turnover.

I would have thought so “on police advice”, at least for the first season!
Jon Walters anyone?
Cox ,Hill, Daws, and Wilcox.?
If Hill has anything it’s as a racconteur; Cox is alright, Daws spoke quite well and Wilcox too. There’s no comparison.
As I mentioned earlier, a good coach would give the players freedom to make not only in-play decisions, but also about the tactical approach for each match. For some reason many managers / coaches are stuck in the 1980’s and seem to believe that they should do all the decision making and thinking for players.
Interesting – one of the things I notice about Guardiola’s sides is that players don’t necessarily think for themselves because they have to be part of the team system. Or, put another way, individual expression is sacrificed for the greater good.
Of course, I agree with you that the “shouting & bollocking” style of management is an anachronism in the modern world.

£220 to stand at 6th tier football? I dunno, it sounds a lot to me.
Especially when they’re a division lower than they were last season….
TBF, none of the above is news, it’s all just speculation. I don’t think it’s that uncommon for loan players to check back in with their parent clubs from time-to-time. Odd to be doing it on one of our matchdays though.
Do you think he knows his best 11 yet?
Nevermind 11, I’d settle for knowing his best 16.
Clubs aren’t really interested in season ticket holders once they’ve got their money, so the money is in the casuals (glory boys in my day) why should it be cheap for them when their not prepared to commit, they don’t turn up very often so make them pay, same in most other situations flights, holidays, buy a ticket for a concert or pay on the door, like NI says win games you’ll get the bums on seats.
Your argument doesn’t really hold up there. Do you pay less with Ryanair just because you take a flight every week? No.
That might be a suitable model where demand outstrips supply but that’s not the case at GP is it? Every seat unsold is a lost opportunity; even if you sell it for £1 that’s £1 more than you would otherwise have got, there’s no variable cost involved in selling more seats.

I’ve said it before plenty of times, the people most likely to be put off by the cost are the casual fans so why do clubs charge them the most? £20+ for 6th tier football is absolutely laughable. If you want to get bums on seats, prices have to be reduced.

This is the FIFA rule, so I’m still a bit confused how this is allowed:
Players may be registered with a maximum of three clubs during one season.
During this period, the player is only eligible to play official matches for
two clubs. As an exception to this rule, a player moving between two clubs
belonging to associations with overlapping seasons (i.e. start of the season in
summer/autumn as opposed to winter/spring) may be eligible to play in official
matches for a third club during the relevant season, provided he has fully
complied with his contractual obligations towards his previous clubs. What happened to the rule about not playing for more than 2 clubs in a single season? I’m surprised he can play for Eastleigh.

Not exactly lacking in options in that position and Bunker was a bit of a Justin Walker, not sure how much of a loss it will be to be honest.
I trust he’s going on what he sees in training, his approach to each game, and a longer term vision for the team, rather than randomness. He’s got a lot of players to deal with and only just getting to know them mentally and physically.
Yes, let’s hope your right, I just wonder whether it’s wise to chop & change selections & players so frequently. Time will tell!
I’m still a bit concerned by the Random Team Generator approach to selection – Fewster in & straight out, Whitehouse appearing from nowhere, discarding Elliott & Sembie-Ferris so quickly. But it seemed to make a bit of a difference, remains to be seen if this will be the new plan or just a lucky guess.
I reckon Hilton should sack Dean and appoint WonderGoals as manager.
Been crying out for that option for years, his tactical analysis is unlike anyone else’s.
Given we’re pretty much down now, is there any point playing any of the loan players unless there’s a realistic chance of them being with us next season?
I genuinely believe we’d have been no worse off if Nelson had continued with no new signings.
It’s not all down to Jimmy, but the gamble to sign so many players has not paid off. With 1 win in 6 games, we literally couldn’t be much worse off!
Ultimately, whatever Dean’s pluses & minuses, we are still reaping Swann’s legacy and will continue to do so for a while yet.

Where are the goals going to come from?
Yep he did but I think we can all agree that he was a victim of the new handball rules which the majority of fans I speak too say are pants, however, rules are rules whether we like them or not. In defence of some of the refs decisions yesterday that left a lot feeling disgruntled, on watching the highlights the only one I think he got wrong was the push on Pugh in the area which looked nailed on to me. The handball hit Bennett’s hand and his arm wasn’t tight to his body ( I know why would it be ) but under the new law interpretation the ref was just sticking to what the rule says now, yes it’s bollocks but it’s the law . Looking back on all the other talking points about how the ref handled things, I thought he was right IMO.
I’m not so sure, I think that would have been given under most handball law interpretations, his arms were out wide and we definitely tried to control the ball with his forearm.
Can’t make my mind up about the Pugh one but my gut reaction is he was looking for it.
We deffo need to start with some width on Tuesday night, very impressed with Bennett not only big and strong but good on the ball and wins headers. Once him and Elliot get it sussed they could be very good together but as I said we need a winger or wingers to make it work.
Cost us two points through yesterday with his handball.
Another player not to pick?
Prepping for next season? A ‘try before you buy’?
Assumes we’ll be staying full-time?
Stockport must be spending a hell of a lot of money when you look at the players they have signed in recent years – feels very similar to the Wrexham model of seemingly offering players over-the-odds wages to drop out of the Football League.
Wishing them well, through gritted teeth. Can’t bring myself to be that happy for them though I’m glad the long round trip was worth it for the fishy fans and good for the club coffers.
I do think it’s a disgrace that these cup ties were played midweek, why has this happened? Presumably to bend to the whim of the big clubs? It really should have been played on the weekend.

Yeah Brighton away is a pretty crap draw for them but it’ll still earn them a fair few quid through TV, prize money, gate receipts. Could end up being a real game-changer for them, the way cup runs were for Exeter, Burton or Lincoln.
One day it might be us…!
Good on them – we’ve got more in common with our local rivals than any of the Premier League clubs. Get in to those Seagulls!
