Matlock play Gainsborough tonight, wonder if any familiar faces will be in attendance, perhaps to discuss future groundshares?
I saw that the other day too and assumed it was just me being late to the party. The highlights from the Kidderminster game were much better than the club’s ones.
Ogle’s forward runs were definitely a strength but too often he ran into traffic and didn’t provide a decisive cross/pass. I’d be interested to know if Iron Stats has the numbers on how many assists/goals he provided in his time here.
Liking Barrows a lot this season. Just a thought – as good a player as Ogle is – was part of his appeal to do with mullet wigs and affability?
Quite possibly it was, but there’s nothing wrong with that I reckon, Scunny fans have been starved of any sort of totemic player for so many years.
What I’ve been impressed with so far this season is the way Butler has come up with different plans to beat different teams. We don’t have the one-size-fits-all approach of Dean. Which is not to say that Butler will always come up with the right option but it does give me hope that he’ll have had Warrington properly scouted and will know their strengths and weaknesses.

I don’t think it has always worked, or will, but 6 times out of 7 so far is not a bad return on the new style of using substitutions.
Nothing’s ever going to be perfect.
I gave it another listen yesterday and in fairness it wasn’t as bad as previous ones I’d listened to. Thought the best bit was the guy from Radio Staffordshire to tell us about Newcastle Town, I wonder if the Bru guys have ever thought about getting on contributors from other teams?
Not listened in a long time – still lots of painfully forced “bantz”?
Completely agree, the increased fitness levels from last season have pushed performance levels to new highs and the squad togetherness is great to see.
That’s an important part of it but I reckon that it’s about attitude too. Whether it’s Whitehall focussing more on football than spraying water bottles, or midfielders making runs into the box. Suggests players are completely buying into it.
God that interview, still makes Neil Cox seem like Mr Motivator!
There is more to life than the footy … thought it does help keeping ones mind active in times of intense grief.
Amen to that.
I’ll never forget being at Donny the day after Billy Sharp’s infant child had died. I was watching with a family member who had been through a similar experience. The tears of pain during the minute’s silence turned to tears of joy when Sharp scored and celebrated wildly. I can’t imagine what Sharp was feeling that night but I imagine those 90 minutes will have helped him deal with it all.
Sorry for your loss IFA, remember you’re always part of the Iron family.

good luck to JD .. cracking bloke .. he remained diligent and focused in our clubs darkest days and even with the Hilton monkey on his back he did OK .. wishing him success at SFC
In what way was he a “cracking bloke”? Remember when he took a game off to go to a wedding? Can’t remember too many other managers doing that.
Surprised by the assessments of Hurst on this thread, as I remember it he’d had to turn around that disastrous side that got relegated from League 1 after barely winning a game in the second half of the season, and was getting us going when Swann decided to sack him anyway. We did not improve after he left.
7 XL exists?
Asking for a friend?
An important game to WIN!
No such thing in August. But 3 points would be very nice.
Is Wayne Graves still playing?
The perfect example.
For anyone watching rugby union you’ll notice that the entire front row is replaced, even when the team is playing well. It’s called managing the game and the players.
In that way rugby is ahead of football.Counterpoint: it’s an example of how bad a sport rugby is that it allows some game-changing tactics because the laws of the game haven’t kept pace with the professional changes in the sport. See also: scrums constantly collapsing.
I hope I misinterpreted what I heard but it seems pretty much like our player/game management is being controlled by Microsoft Excel. That would explain the bizarre substitute fest on Saturday as I couldn’t think of any other reason he went sub crazy at 1-0
It’s ok, you misinterpreted it.
And finished second not a great fan but statistics show he not worst
I would argue a better measure of a manager is how they achieved vs. the tools they were given and the expectations. For example, the job Nigel Adkins did in keeping us up in the Championship in 2010, even though he lost more game than he won that season, is more impressive than say promotion under Russ Wilcox.
My judgement of Dean is, admittedly, slightly clouded by the fact I found him really unimpressive as a leader (those interviews when he sounded like his world had fallen apart after a narrow defeat, you never got that from Adkins) and I found his style of football & refusal to change his approach very frustrating.

Good call on Hill, I thought Cox was dealt a much more difficult hand than Dean. Not to say Dean had it all rosy, of course, but he at least had a really talented squad at his disposal.
He won’t go down as the worst manager Scunthorpe United has ever had. Far from it.
I wouldn’t have many below him, to be honest. Maybe Alan Knill.
A good lesson on the importance of “sample size” in statistics.

A recently promoted side in the division below us? Sounds about right.

saffron their spitefulness
Saffron my spitefulness is one of my favourite albums, brilliant showgazing stuff from the early 1990s.
I’m all for it personally. Might not be pretty and when it doesn’t work it’s a double blow but makes a refreshing change to watch us more direct and physical. Can’t remember the last time I’ve seen it from the Iron but hate to see any opposition doing it to us. I bet Tim Lovejoy would prefer ‘Jimmyball’.
We all like silky passing football and I thought our second goal yesterday was a terrific one but I find Spain-style passive possession incredibly dull to watch. Get it in the mixer! We’ve got a range of tools at our disposal this season, it’s not just Jimmy’s way or the highway.
I tend to agree but am not ready to fully endorse AB. Don’t want to see too many games like Chorley and NM.
3 games like SS or Brackley every four games or so and my grin will turn magically into a broad smile.4 wins from 5, F10 A1, I’d start smiling now if I were you!
Reckon their keeper, centre backs and right wing back had over 50% of their possession but it was possession without intent.
A lot of their play was a bit like watching us at times last season.
That’s a testament to Butler in that case, had us set up solidly so that they couldn’t find a way to break us down. And as you say, tapping it around aimlessly at the back is exactly what we’d have been doing last season under Dean. The South Shields manager thinks he’d rather watch his team than us but having watched us play incredibly dull football under Dean, I’m all in favour of Butler’s approach.

In Butler we trust! A controlled, dominant performance, at least judging by the radio coverage. God it makes such a pleasant change to have a proper manager in charge this season.

Just need the right people in. Look at Stockport County.
(I could have said “and Wrexham” but their circumstances are rather different)
Not really, Stockport have thrown almost as much money as Wrexham at the problem.
I’m not really bothered if we do or we don’t, to be fair.
People who are happy in their workplace invariably provide a better service. A lesson so few companies bother to learn.
The Lincolnite Website has folded and Gi News will probably follow, people won’t pay for websites but will pay a couple of quid for a quality paper, which the Telegraph isn’t.
You say that but all evidence points to the fact that they won’t.
