What you need to start realising is we need money to keep us going as a club until suitable person or persons are found. If Hilton resigns and takes his money with him and there won’t be the money “which there won’t be” in the coffers to keep the club going until anybody is found……then what ?

3,000 home gates should be enough to fund a pretty handy squad for the time being, shouldn’t it?

Sorry Siderite, I think you are in the minority. I, like you support the iron but believe we all make mistakes. Need to move on and hope we will be successful again uti

Do you think a mistake is an accident or a deliberate act?

But keep spending your dirty money David and taking the abuse until the White Knight arrives with some clean money and pays Mr Swann his £3m. Otherwise we really won’t like you.

Not much to ask is it.

My concerns around Hilton rest largely on the fact that we still don’t know if he was the money to support the club. He hasn’t yet bought the ground. He’s assembled a presumably very expensive squad for this level. Yes we’re getting good crowds but are we financially sound? These were exactly the questions I raised for years around Swann, even when the going was apparently good at the top end of League 1. None of us want to see a repeat of that cycle, so we need to know for sure that Hilton is putting the club on a sound footing.

So I’m curious, do you think fans’ feelings toward Hilton would shift, especially after the story today, if there were parties interested in purchasing the club from him? Is it the man himself or the idea that he is the one person who would keep the club afloat?

I don’t think it would make any difference – there is a section of the fanbase which has become so deeply aligned with Hilton that it’s akin to expecting Trump’s supporters to change their views on him based on each indictment – it simply won’t happen.

The abuse he’s getting from so-called Iron fans on Twitter is an absolute embarrassment to the club.

A fairly easy question to answer, with Hilton at the helm we have a club, without him – who knows.

I refer you to my questions above – the key thing is whether this situation tells us any more about his ability to run the club.

    My questions:

    – Does he have the money to a) buy the land & b) make up any operating shortfall (i.e. gate receipts v. wages) to ensure the club can continue?

    – Does the club currently have any significant debts/borrowings?

Now what? I don’t hate Hilton. I can’t. If Hilton hadn’t come forward, Swann would have let this club go out of business.

I’m not sure about this narrative; there were other bids on the table, weren’t there? Now it may be Swann’s fault that he made the wrong choice, but I’m not convinced that it was Hilton-or-nothing, not the way I remember it.

I’m all for giving people a second chance but is misleading people the right way to go about getting that second chance?

Also, for me, that statement, whilst interesting & informative, didn’t answer the key questions for me.

Nothing particularly new in there other than another name I hadn’t heard of before. The big difference is having what were once rumours backed up by a major publication.

Personally, my biggest concern in the whole piece is the bit about confirmation of funds. Given what we’ve seen in the last 10 years and given the quality of the current squad, that’s my biggest worry.

    Cashing in his chips?

Lot of talk about whether their player was offside or not but no mention of Whitehall clearly fouling the centre back for our first!

BTW, why aren’t the club including goals conceded on the match highlights? Seems a bit weird. Imagine if they’d done that last season? There’d be nothing to show from most games!

I did think at Curzon we lacked a bit of an option and if pitches get harder in winter then a battering ram might help. But he wasn’t too impressive at the back end of last season, was he?

Is Carver still out on loan or did he get released?

It’s a crap tackle and one which could easily have caused serious injury. The fact he didn’t hurt him is just luck.

Disappointing to hear some of our fans having a pop at Elliott, yes he didn’t have the best of games, but he never stopped trying which is all you can ask when a player is having an off day.

Surprised to hear that. I’m not a huge fan of him but I would have thought after the last 2 games and his celebrations he’d have become a bit of a crowd favourite.

It says something when I had no idea Brackley are even in our league. No idea where the town even is but sounds like it’s down south?

Portsmouths my local team – Eisner cleared their debts and is running them at quite close to break even on the playing side (hence them not walking right through league 1) the investment is going into the ground and infrastructure – it’s really improved Fratton Park with top facilities ; still an old school ground with a modern twist which i think I prefer over the new builds . I think the plan is to add capacity , as they are getting 19k every game – i think it only holds 20 now .

Good, sustainable plans. I love Fratton Park, belting atmosphere for big games too.

Investing in facilities is likely to do more for the club in the long-term than just throwing money at players. *gestures in the direction of Glanford Park*

I don’t remember having any real chances in the first half at Curzon other than a couple of Butterfield shots from distance.

You’re correct about Darlo. Have a look at the Blackwell Meadows stadium, not fit for purpose and it’s hard to see how they progress as a club. It well could be we are in a similar situation in a years time unless things get sorted.

Indeed. Did you see the recent story about a team that was going to take over the moribund Reynolds Arena? They were apparently all set up to play their first game a few weeks ago only for it to emerge at the last minute that it was all some sort of scam. Redcar Newmarket were going to be renamed Darlington United & moved into the old stadium, only that didn’t happen….

I think we’ll see that Curzon were a better team than we gave them credit for. Even so, we might have got a point if the pitch had been playable for the last 20 minutes.

Portsmouth supporters- even with their substantial fan base- had to go cap in hand to Disney.

Agree with some of your points but not sure that’s an accurate representation – I think a more balanced view is that the Disney bloke (Eisner?) made an offer and the attraction of being a billionnaire’s plaything won out over the security & pride of fan ownership. A shame.

York have also recently sold out, in this case with the majority owners taking a 51% stake. 49% would have perhaps been the ideal option there for the club but not for the new majority owners.

I don’t know about Scarborough but I suspect Darlo are hamstrung by their stadium issues.

Would a community owned club have the resources to get back into the Football League?

Gazes enviously in the direction of Exeter City, AFC Wimbledon, Newport County, or indeed Motherwell & St Mirren.

Thanks for your explanation, Ferrite. I see where you are coming from although I would still take issue with the analogy. First because the US Presidential electoral system is a fundraising slugfest ..so to be in it you have to do it. Secondly its not Trump’s fault that his supporters perceive the relentless flow of impeachment, accusations and arraignments as victimisation and the weaponisation of institutions that should be impartial. That is also how I see it.

Yes but the difference you’ve overlooked is that Trump has actively sought donations to his legal fund, not just to campaign funds.

Also, if you think that a man who has made a career out of breaking rules is now being victimised by finally getting his comeuppance, then I’m afraid I don’t know how to help you. There’s none so blind as those who will not see.

. An explanation would be appreciated, Ferrite.

Every time Trump is up in court, on one of his many charges, he raises huge amounts of money from his base. Now it is important to state that there is a key difference here in that Trump actively solicits this money whereas Hilton has done the right thing and asked them to stop. But the fervour of the support bore a certain level of comparison, I thought.

He posted photos of the courtroom, which is prohibited. I suspect he saw sense and took them down.

Naughty boy, hope he doesn’t get into hot water for doing that. Bit naive for a reporter!

From what I saw at Curzon, the two lads supporting Butterfield in midfield left a lot to be desired – their passing was at best variable and neither ever looked to break beyond the forwards into the box. In a game like that, where the Iron dominate possession, I think we need 2/3rds of our midfield to offer more than just spoiling.

Good to know DH is prepared to speak to a journalist from time-to-time and well done to SST for getting some answers. It still feels concerning that the lack of information from the club has allowed rumours to flourish.
