I watched the Playoff game again a few weeks ago and it was such an entertaining match; it would have been great to have been there!
Hi smartm, it certainly was. When Wooly scored the winning goal, our supporters went absolutely crazy and my mate Steve’s glasses got knocked off. God knows how they survived with everyone jumping up and down!
Nice to see you on ‘Bru, welcome.1 user thanked author for this post.
Stood in DRE, I remember Beags tricking his way down the wing (our right), cutting in and unleashing a right skyer that comfortably cleared the stand roof. He paused a sec, then gazed skyward in an astonished manner with a look of mock disbelief on his face. Hilarious at the time!
Me & the missus have been staying away the last few home games, it’s been so utterly painful to watch. Given Hartlepool’s our last home L2 game for the foreseeable future, I’m beginning to relent and may well go, the missus is less keen though. Might have a stopover & do Flag Day & a curry in Scunny too.
Well done you lads trekking down to Bristol, we’d thought going but given recent showings from the team thought the better of it.Kids had all been good and behaved so did nt have to go to the game !
LOL!!
0-2 Stevenage tow in.
Crowd 1450.
For me, not a good scenario if Swann remains, I doubt there’ll be any significant investment, resulting in relegation to NLN at the end of next season. Average age of the first team, 19, significantly increased by Mussy being back in goal. Crowds will start at 1100-1200, but as poor results amass, will dwindle to 800-900 by the end of the season. The scoreboard will remain hors de combat, and the car park will go up to six quid.
All we can hope for is a change of ownership now, as I see it, it’s our only way out of this spiral of decline.

Chin up Deerey, think we all feel the same – and angry, because despite all the assurances made, this has still been allowed to happen.
All we’ve got now are those memories of the special moments the Iron have given us over the years. Think about them, it’ll cheer you up (well, a little).

The playoff win against Millwall.
Beating Hull 1-0 on their turf with a Mike O’Connor 89th minute goal…living near Hull, priceless.
Beating Newcastle on that Tuesday night 2-1. And how times have changed -Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins:
“We have the smallest fan base and the smallest budget in the division. But it’s what you do on the field of play. We’ve got a fantastic team spirit.“This is a great victory. When we got promoted, this was the first game everybody was looking for; Newcastle United at home.
“We packed Glanford Park out, played against a top side and we have gone and got a victory. We’ve got an honest, hardworking bunch of players.
Today is a sad, sad day, but at least we’ve the memories. UTI

Well….we’re certainly being crucified today.
I shouldn’t agonise Ferrite, realistically we’re not gonna win, are we??

Woke up this morning with the dark cloud of relegation hanging over me, such a very sad day for us.
I suppose all we can do now is look forward, and hope/pray that we get a change of ownership soon that will bring much needed investment. Without that, I’m fearful of the future of this club.

A hot cross from Bunn leads to a deflected OG and a one nil victory. We live to fight another day.
Think we’re gonna be left with egg on our faces this afto BFB.

I’ve seen it Ferrite 👍. A good watch for Iron fans of a certain vintage!
Was hugely amused by the way Staffy looked then compared to today lol. Mind you, I’ve not worn too well….

Good post Jackie, thanks.
Mick, we’ll not get to 30 points and not a win in us, don’t you think we may scrape a draw or two? Well, fingers crossed.
I’ve got to say for me, season’s over. I’m not gonna trek from Cottingham to see this shite any more, sorry diehards. I’ve had enough.
Need new investment, need new owner, SWANN OUT!
Have to say I thought KH was gonna be the man who’d aave us. Right credentials in L1 & L2, talks really well, has a structured plan that he assures does work. Things picked up a bit when the team got fit. Jan window was hugely underwhelming (clearly budget restrictions), but I think (??!) KH’s players. Been crap since. Not all Keith’s fault, but overall I’m a bit disappointed to say the least. In fact I’ve given up hope.

Very bad news Simon has resigned, I do really hope his very savvy advice to the board was fully accepted and his resignation is unrelated to this…

Jill & I are really glad to see you’re elected as Fan’s Director Neil. Good to know there’s someone on the board that will say where & when they’re going (imo) wrong and give appropriate advice (try not to swear lol!).

Re the scoreboard, that’s what he said at the shareholders meeting Mick (& Daz). They said it was obsolete and couldn’t get the parts.
8 games to go and on -42, I think we’ll exceed a -50 goal difference but not as bad as -60 (surely???). On 24 points now, we’re never gonna hit 30 the way we’re playing, might scrape the odd draw so prob finish with 26 or 27. I can’t see a win in us I’m afraid.
Crikey, it wasn’t that long ago we were talking about the chances of making 50 points or close thereto. What an awful season, can’t wait for it to finish.
Like others on here, unless we get a change of ownership and investment with it, I am really concerned about our future in the NL, I’ve the awful feeling we’re gonna struggle.

Suggested amendment to title – Iron feature in National League.

Title says it all. We truly are.
“Now wash your hands, please” on every sheet in green ink.
And yes, outside toilets in freezing conditions, January 1963, wow. Even having a wee was difficult.Haha Alcy, you’ve brought the memories of 1960’s outside school bogs to mind, as you say, very inhospitable places.
Wasn’t Izal referred to as ‘San Izal’ in the day? Seem to recall it was unfit for purpose, the smooth surface seemed better at spreading rather than removal…fiendish stuff.

I’ll have a pint of what you’re drinking Renee!

When I saw the title I thought you meant the team Renee!
I’m loving all these memories lads, keep em coming!
Here’s another, be around 1960 before I was old enough to go, can remember being on my bike on Philip’s Crescent, I can vividly remember the huge cheer when we scored.
That was in the days when we did used to be able to score…1 user thanked author for this post.
Well lads…it is :-(
Agree with Mick & NI, Alexander started playing players out of position, star full back couldn’t get in…it went on and on, seemed then we couldn’t buy a win to me. He got the sack, SST got grief at the time for saying it was right decision, but I reckoned it was, and I know it’s a shitshow now, but at the time it was right I think.
And now we’re truly f*cked, Christ, glad my Dad’s not alive to see this.
Back to the title – sad?? For me, that doesn’t even touch the sides of it. As a young lad, walked down Exeter Road every day past the ground to go to Hendy Av school, could see the floodlights from my bedroom window.
Left Scunny at age 10, live in Cottingham, still go…. And yes, I really am so so so sad.
AND IT IS ALL DOWN TO YOU IN MY OPINION SWANNY.
PLEASE, PLEASE, do the decent thing, sell up, ship out. ASAP.13 users thanked author for this post.
Swann OUT!! (Please, asap)

think Tom Newey hit the nail on the head on Saturday, “we need to rebuild from below”
Ideally, we need rebuilding from ABOVE Beefy. Only my opinion of course…

Well that’s it then. Ran late (mending a roof unsurprisingly), so didn’t make the game. I listened to it, it sounded absolutely pathetic, no fight, no desire second half. From this show that’s clearly it. I can’t bear to listen to the aftermath, I’ve turned it off. Whilst relegation has been on the cards for some time, this says to me there’s no escape now, and I’m absolutely gutted.
