I’m not on Facebook either just the old fashioned world wide web
Scunthorpe United can confirm first team manager Neil Cox was absent from Saturday’s game against Exeter City after receiving news upon arrival at the stadium that his father had been taken ill.
Neil’s dad sadly passed away on Sunday and the manager would like to thank the staff on Ward 22 of Scunthorpe General Hospital on behalf of his family for the care and support they provided for his father.
Everyone at the football club sends their sympathies to Neil and his family, who are in our thoughts at this sad time.
Bartonscorpion, the club put a statement out 22 hours ago, well before your post “looking” for the sacking of the manager. Sometimes you just have to admit you got it wrong

Wondergoals…I wouldn’t wish that on anybody and hope he’s ok but putting that to one side, he really should be sacked. Lillis is just as bad if not worse than Cox is.
I’m no fan of the management team and alot of decisions made on Saturday were baffling, however, you are a dick…but the death of his father to one side and sack him the day after
I fully thought that I would open my computer and read that either Cox had been relieved of his duties, or that he had resigned because of his pathetic record at Scunthorpe, but are having difficulty finding such info!!!!!! Bartonscorpion wrote…
No you turned your computer on and found out he’d lost his father, A man of your age I’d have thought you’d show a little respect and have some dignity.
Game off
But we did…if and buts…if clarke and howard don’t collide against Salford we get a point, but they did. Take the 3 points and move on.
Tactical masterclass
Christ, give the bloke a break. We won so he went 1-5-4-1, not ideal, but we score 2 and keep a clean sheet. I’ll take that every game to the end of the season. Let’s have some positive talk.
Very interesting topic hawks11, agree with all you say. Howard seems to have the same positives and negatives as Watson. Infact they could almost be the same keeper with a 12 year age gap. The one thing we can’t tell from the radio or ifollow is how much talking Howard does to his back four. Let hope his communication is top notch and Watson picks up good habits in that aspect of the game.
Read it again…still a load of toss. Isn’t it everyone’s objective not to lose.
@Cassidystash Hard to argue that the team selected against Southend wasn’t the best available surely
Have we made a new signing or am i missing something. I’m sure most of us would agree that the starting 11 at southend was the strongest available.
@CWS lets not start that old chestnut. Most believe our best performance of the season football wise wasc colchester and we were unlucky to lose. Cox rested players for the colchester game due to injuries and/or fatigue. These players were then brought back in on Saturday to start with our strongest 11. Let’s stop saying Cox changes the team too often, he trying to protect players.
We have to stop the delivery, both Clarke and Gilliead should take responsibility, the passage of play leading to the goal was poor. If we stop the cross the rest is immaterial. Yes O’Malley needs to check his shoulder more, but, last night it was the right hand side that was at fault for the goal.
Why oh why are you all so 1442, christ you lot bore me stupid. 1442 or nothing. We have to adapt, occasionally giving the opposition something to think about. I say well done Niel for believing in his squad. Yes I agree that when available, like today or last tuesday 1442 probably is our best formation. However, if the boss decides to change things pre match or during the game lets not hang him out to dry, it doesn’t have to be the same every game. A good manager will be able to adapt during a game. With the recent run of games…points gained and with the next couple of months fixtures, i think we should see where we stand come the end of January, 1442 or something different…points or the most important thing
@wondergoals EandMee needs to calm down, I’m like a mill pond.
As for if we don’t win on Tuesday the Oldham result means nothing….now that’s a “behave”. With the 3pts from yesterday, if we take between 5 and 7 points from the next 3 games, realistic (8 to 10 points from 4 games), that’s a decent return and we can all look onwards and upwards. There we go again Mr “negative” Northumbiron
Top performance today. Exactly Hawks11 onwards and upwards (love the positive spin, we seem to get a lot of negativityon here), with games in hand dare we look at mid table. Apart from the first 15-20 mins the better team. We looked strong at the back, the central midfield did their jobs. The wide men worked hard but gave us a threat. kvv and loft always caused trouble. With a blend of youth and experience a good day.
Howard 6
Cordner 1
Bedeuo 3
Brown 4
Spence 5
Butroid 5
Green 6
McAtee 6
Gillead 6
Turan 1
Taylor 5Subs KVV 5, Hallam 5 , OLomola 4
More experience? If or when we start back, with a 1-442 (as everyone on here thinks it’s the only shape to play) and we start with
Howard
Clarke, Onariase, McGahey, BrownGilliead, Beestin, Taylor, Eisa
McAtee Olomola
Which if you are as good as your last game is harsh on some of the inexperienced players who played against Exeter.
The above team is full of experience with a couple of younger players. Please tell me where more experience is needed? -
