If Trust membership is on the rise of a result of it’s leadership turning the situation in to a marketing opportunity, then fair play to them, whether some think their latest post on the Facebook group to be crass or not. As a Trust member, I have no issues with their approach.

Indeed. ‘Well for £10 you could join the Unity Group, but here’s an alternative’
It’s clearly deliberate, but IMO they’re merely setting their stall out in an arena for potential new funds and memberships. I completely understand the Trust’s rationale for promoting their own interests at this juncture.
‘Join the Iron Trust for £10 and get a membership card, exclusive unity pin badge, regular newsletter and a vote on any policy decision.
You also have transparent audited accounts and membership of a national body plus a lottery licence with North Lincolnshire Council.
Join the fastest growing and most established Scunthorpe United supporters society today. All money from membership sign-ups goes directly to the club.’
I see the Trust has posted the above on the Facebook group this evening. And why not? I don’t think it’s childish as one supporter has claimed on there. If 100 people join the Unity Group, that’s £1k that would be better off with the Trust IMO. Promoting Trust membership on there is no different from Earl promoting the Unity Group on Bru. Fairs fair.
It would help everyone if the group appreciated a certain level of scrutiny comes with raising funds rather than treating it like a ruse to undermine them, particularly as they are making it a big splash with these public announcements about the launch and encouraging supporters to join for a tenner a pop.

One good thing to come out of this so far. This earworm. Like 2023 all over again…
These are the sort of legitimate questions that shouldn’t be treated with the mockery and disdain displayed by the group leaders on the Facebook Group IMO. Surely lessons were learned from this type of reaction during the Hilton era? I can understand supporters posting remarks like ‘anything but Unity’. PR skills perhaps beneficial?
£100k seems a lot for any player in NLN. Have any been sold for that sort of figure in recent years?
Fair enough
I think if he is sold a sizeable number of supporters will make such a song and dance about it, it will seem like Armageddon. Times we live in I’m afraid.
Absolutely valid questions. But others have been raised about the need for another membership group and why this group can’t fundraise with funds going to the Trust to buy shares which would benefit supporters in the long run.
I agree it’s probably a storm in a tea cup but I wouldn’t want to suggest talk of the new group is fizzled out. End of the day, people may have stronger feelings about it and wish to air their views. Some valid questions have been raised and that’s healthy IMO.
£10 Lifetime Trust membership. £10 Unity Membership. When one of their leaders mentions ‘competition’ in posts it’s pretty obvious a key driver in this formation is to provide competition to the Trust which I don’t think is healthy or needed. Why not just set up the fundraising group without it being a membership organisation with the same fee? Basically, it creates a formal division that may well deepen.

‘I don’t know why we are here, but I’m pretty sure that it is not in order to enjoy ourselves.’
Kant.Having viewed the discussion about this Unity Group on the Facebook page my thoughts are that it seems to be about a few individuals courting publicity as opposed to the Iron Trust which seems to be anything but. Bit embarrassing from Jerry saying that the Trust are scared of competition. Not a good look.
Trump and Musk will be partying now like there’s no tomorrow and maybe in the fullness of time under their joint leadership ( which it will be initially at any rate ) there will be no tomorrow, let’s wait and see who starts name calling who publicly first.
Yep, get the popcorn on stand by for the inevitable ugly split. Something to look forward to. Should be hilarious.

If he didn’t make the bench, perhaps he’s injured in some way? Apart from that, surely you can’t be surprised he’s not in the starting 11. We’d never hear the last of it if he retained his place just for his long throw. And rightly so.
I don’t get the ‘Crumble Corner’ jibe. Am I missing something?

I wouldn’t want to be part of any club that would have me as a member
Ha ha, proof if any were needed that Bru is full of Marxists!
In a nutshell Siderite. Ridiculous that this is being twisted in such a fashion. As you stated on the other thread, I’ve barely posted about this whole situation. Plenty of others have had plenty more to say about it mind. Fair enough. It’s a discussion board.

Fair and reasonable
‘My point is that when Stu’s making all the right noises he’s ‘naive’ but now he’s criticised both the manager and the trust there’s no defending it as naivety and we’re jumping on the bandwagon that he’s a pervert.
Double standards from some is the point I’m making.’Literally making something out of nothing which I suspect no one gives two hoots about. Apart from suggesting back in October some of his questionable activity might be ‘social media naivity’ (probably trying to give him the benefit of the doubt), what am I supposed to have said about him being a ‘pervert’ and my thoughts on him having a go at the Trust? Maybe I have (re the Trust) I dunno. I have a fairly busy life, contrary to smears about me being on here 24/7. All that aside, the situation has developed and evolved a lot since then. If I’ve changed my mind over that time, so what? No one cares that much 414. As Siderite says, I’ve barely commented on any of this anyway.
‘3 pessimists walk in to a bar…’
Confidence is completely shot. When he breaks his duck, he’s going on a scoring streak. I tells ye!

DRE?
He’s back!
Yeah, I thought they made a good start yesterday. Which is surprising as numerous supporters crow about Butler not making one good signing.
Pretty sure I heard on the radio yesterday that Potter had set up West Ham with 5 at the back. That ended well.

From Jerry on the Cults page. I think that’s fair. It wasn’t such a terrible miss.
‘It seems that Beck has become a target from some of the supporters along with the manager. Beck’s confidence must be at an all time low and with so called supporters slagging him off how is his confidence going to grow.’
Just checked last time we played Bury at Gigg. Way longer than I thought – 2017. Where does it all go?
