One man’s ‘crap’ is another one’s ‘not too bad.’ It’s certainly a better looking table than when I checked in with 25 mins to go.:)

That League table doesn’t look too bad now!! Really looking forward to 31st. A debut at Glanford Park for my 7 year old ‘southern’ Grandson too.

Wasn’t saying that, Sidey. I was responding to the prevailing attitude that a vote for the Republicans was in some way 100% pathological and the mystery was as to why so many took that path. What I was suggesting was that this says more about those with that approach than it does about where truth lies.

No. You don’t have to respect everyone’s beliefs. Some things that people believe are outrageous or vicious or harmful etc But we should at least start from the premise that we can respect everyone .. then we can address the issue of beliefs in the right manner.

Plenty to thank you for there Sidey. However … the ‘taken as read’ perspective that she and the majority of US voters may simply be misguided has a whiff of the patronising about it if you don’t mind me saying.
Rory Stewart responded to Alistair Campbells speculation that they had been in a bubble and were too patronising to the voters. The response was priceless. He explained his misjudgement by saying that he is probably too ‘nice’ and too much of an optimist and that’s why he’d called it the way he had! My suggestion to Rory … and others .. would be to listen to others without the assumption that their perspective is totally worthless and to be dismissed without consideration

Another generous and well constructed contribution from our resident political analyst. ( One of my motives for posting was that I was missing you, Gurney … and I knew that you’d turn up if I did.)

Pretty dismissive in my opinion guys. My daughter has voted Republican in the last 3 elections and she is certainly neither thick nor lazy. Maybe you are as much in ‘a bubble’ as those you decry. I listened to Alistair Campbell and Rory Stewart before the election stating that there was no way Kamala could lose. Rory even pledged a £100,000 bet on the certainty. The following podcast was very interesting ..and entertaining for the likes of me as the ‘experts’ tried to come to terms with their misjudgement without denigrating over half the US electorate.

The traditional Christian explanation to your opening question, Heath .. there is an event ..a day … at the end of time when every life lived is called to account. Death is the portal .. the gateway out of the opportunity to live well and give pleasure to the ‘lifegiver.’
I’m not sure that NIs ‘Christmas Card survey’is so reliable in that I suspect lots of people just buy cards in packs, according to price etc. I do agree that Christmas is a cultural ‘relic’ more infused with a pagan past celebrating the Solstice. Jesus birth was likely at Tabernacles which is early Autumn ..but I nevertheless welcome the warm connections of family and friends that Christmas brings. And even the heightened sense of peace and goodwill that, however temporary for many, can never be a bad thing :)

ps I’m not so much a fan of a ‘season of goodwill’ for all men. I’m more for it being extended throughout the year. So have a good few days … and maybe a ‘bile free’ 2025.

That’s alot better, Heath. Maybe address you remarks to 64. Not sure if it will make any difference but I absolutely agree that the C of E establishment are in tatters.
My point to 64 was that he decries the amount of ‘bile’ being spewed in society ..but has a consistent track record himself. If you look at his opener above .. none of the ‘pervs’ are in the House if Lords. Just those who lacked discernment and courage to address serious issues. They are rightly being called to account for leadership failing. BUT ..in my humble opinion … their abject leadership failings don’t warrant being called ‘pervs’, maybe cowards or befuddled. More worryingly .. for a man who hates ‘bile’ .. what is the reason for highlighting their skin colour or religious persuasion. Imagine 64s high moral ground grandstanding if someone referenced the Rochdale or Rotherham groomers in terms of skin colour or Islam.

What was that you posted on t’other side? Something about too many people eager to spout toxic ‘bile’ in our society, 64. Care to rephrase your concerns in a way that doesn’t leave you looking like a hypocrite.

The level of bile is a modern thing , societal and not acceptable

Blimey, 64 .. I cant let that one go! Have you checked some of your own posts over the years. It’s not just ‘bile’ when someone else does it but ‘justified outrage’ when it’s your opinion.

If that stat is correct..21 goals in 43.. then the sack Whitehall campaign may be running out of steam. It shouldn’t be too difficult to fire in a few goals with the forwards we have now. 3 up top .. Whitehall, Roberts, Carlton .. swapping Beck, Harris, maybe Beestin. We can dream.

ps again. I’ve revisited your last post NI ..and am more confused than ever. So it wasn’t sarcasm? You really were advocating Hilton over Musk? All I initially asked for was clarification. Now you’ve explained….I think.

ps Is Musk claiming to be a Christian? If so …then I guess I’m burdened with yet another imperfect so and so to defend and give credibility to. Glad Adolf’s gone ..theres only so much responsibility this here Christian can carry :)

Any thoughts on this JI? Interested in your thoughts given you seemed to be defending Musk on t’other side a day or two ago. Bpg too, I’d be interested in his views on this. Not very Christian is it? Or is it?

Pardon me, Deerey …but where did I ‘defend Musk?’ All I remember was trying to fathom why NI would welcome Hilton back to the Club before investment from Musk. That doesn’t seem to me to be an unqualified defence of anyone.
On the wider point .. I found the article mixed. Definitely it portrays Musk as lacking empathy .. but then again that may not necessarily be a usual character trait for scientifically gifted, problem solving entrepreneurs. We’re not all gifted across a wide spectrum. I suspect that the tone of the article is also a reflection of the fact that he is currently in favour with ‘the Donald’ which, since I am apparently responsible to answer for everyone’s foibles as a resident Christian… May be the ‘unforgiveable sin’.

Maybe a country encountering huge economic and social difficulties wouldn’t actually make re entry to the EU more problematic. Maybe.

A really interesting article. Special trading terms in exchange for free movement would surely have to be attractive. Not sure that the ‘political class’ will buy it but not surprised that large numbers see it as the best of both worlds ie trade, security, free movement and retention of national sovereignty. Win Win.

I can’t open the article ..says its out of date. Immigration is certainly a hot topic ..so if rejoining the EU was seen as a means to reduce it then maybe that would convince many. Seems a bit far fetched to me and …as you say … declining living standards are never far from public consciousness.

Deerey … I definitely wasnt defending the Tories or suggesting that Labour should have solved inherited problems in a few short months… if I had then maybe ‘scornful laughter ‘ would be appropriate. I didn’t vote for the Tories myself. I was referring to the fact .. which may be in dispute .. that the last few months have seen the new Government struggle with a fair number of issues which were not passed on by the Tories. Hence the recent initiative to re set the values, direction and priorities.

NI .. its a fair warning you give regarding keeping company only with those of a similar persuasion. I definitely try not to … probably why some of my friends struggle with my ‘opinions.’ To be honest ..I’m yet to find a ‘bubble’ that I don’t feel like bursting :)

“trade which I suspect ‘informs’ those polls”.

Your “perspective” is way off target if you think trade is the main reason.

I do think that it’s the dosh, Heath ie the perception that we’ve sacrificed trade benefits. I’m curious as to what you think would fuel a drive to re entry outside of that?
