Playing in a terrible team. I guess certain qualities can only emerge and develop when there is a decent platform to stand on.
Who are you talking about, SUFC?
Don’t need another striker. The 3 you mentioned are fine for that level and Harrison Poulter needs a chance to be ‘in and around.’ Too many and it breeds dissatisfaction. If Wilson and Beeston don’t move on then we have all the cover we need. Creativity in midfield is needed … Butterfield and another … two if he goes.

Some concern from me .. but don’t realistically see how I can influence things. Happy with the type of signings we’ve made recently. Would hate to negatively prejudge Mr Hilton and then see him usher in a ‘golden age.’ I hope he does, I can’t get into the detail of IB with any confidence and do wonder why he is so keen
to sound the warning bells. But anyone is entitled to contribute. Just a waiting game for me.This report reads well enough. Lots of speculation and tension ..which is not surprising. I’ll be glad when we get on to some sort of clear path. For those who feel very nervous about David Hilton …its because you care and fear the worst. For those who are taking a hopeful line …its because you care and hope for the best. Stay United.
Gurney said: ‘JL, you come on here with an aspiration to high-minded thinking yet your world appears to be one of strong religious belief married to truly dreadful and dangerous far-right attitudes.
You’ve taken a vow of silence on the unelected monarchy, despite your dislike of an (allegedly) unelected EU commission. You’ve also ‘pled the fifth’ about those disgusting websites which pervert the purity of the Christian message by yoking it to racism, presumably because you find them of interest. Is it possible to be racist and Christian? Is yours a pick ‘n’ mix Christianity, just choosing your favourite bits and ignoring the rest, like with a Christmas tin of Quality Street?
As for all this about the changing of the mind, the work in progress, the process of becoming, the grandiosity, patronage and prayers for others – I must confess it has had an effect on me – it made me change my mind! I used to think there was nobody else who could compete with Bucksiron’s self-absorption. But now I don’t.’There you go again, Gurney. I’m asked by your good self and at least one other how I could make certain statements and yet have voted Remain. I take the time to reply and bingo … I’m not only lying but, because I’ve explained, I’m also self -absorbed. It seems to me that my ‘self -absorption’ is only rivalled by your pathological fascination with me!
Although my views on the Monarchy are fairly moderate .. I even conceded that there is an irrationality about the institution,.. I made the interesting observation that for some a largely powerless and symbolic Monarch may be more acceptable than the very real power wielded by a distance elite. No evasion at all.
Then come the insinuations, not for the first time, of racism. Yesterday I spent most of the day packing aid for Armenia with Joseph, an Eritrean who fled after multiple arrests and imprisonments. On Wednesday, because of car issues, I gave a chunk of time taxiing my wife to her voluntary work teaching English to Refugees and Asylum seekers .. several of whom have become our friends. I repeat that we have an unofficial ‘adopted daughter’ from Vietnam. My middle child is married to a Jew. I guess I’m just ‘self absorbed’ for offering this glimpse into my week and life. And, for you, I’m probably just lying anyway.
As for ‘disgusting’ and ‘far right’ websites .. you seem to be the expert. I stay away from stuff like that. I recommend that you do the same!
For what it’s worth I am of the opinion that because you detest so much of what I offer on the Forum you’ve created a kind of ‘fantasy profile’ of me. A man with ‘ strong religious belief married to truly dreadful and dangerous far-right attitudes’ with a smattering of narcissism and racism. With that kind of target you can throw whatever projections, presumptions and downright untruths around …and it’s all justified in what appears to me to be your small minded, mean spirited world. When the tactic of associating me with another poster .. even claiming that I am posting under another guise ..seems to be irritating others as much as me .. then you associate me with Bucks to see if that will gain traction.
Why not go back to the drawing board, Gurney. Rather than expending such effort and energy ripping into what offends you … whether ‘people like me’ or the other targets ..political, religious etc why not present your own personal vision of a healthy society and how to get there. We already know from your recent post that you don’t approve of charitable work but you rarely pull back the veil on what your programme to benefit mankind would be. I know it’s easier to find fault with others rather than putting one’s own ideas and beliefs up for scrutiny. Believe me ..it can seem frustrating and costly at times, especially when jibes, strawmanning and lies are flying around .. but it is the best way to go. So far, I have to confess, I’m not finding much in your approach to attract me to the kind of Society that you might be likely to advocate. I would be looking for more generosity and tolerance, less labelling and more genuine pursuit of truth for example.
OK. Enough from me. I would love to elicit a more amicable response from you and have a more mutually respectful exchange …but it seems difficult to get there.Bill ..have you any idea how this looks to an audience? The biggest mistake I made was responding to your invitation to meet up. You have my number. Continue this where it should be .. in private. I have chosen nor to block you up to this point in the hope of a more amicable connection.
To the rest of you guys ..my apologies.ps Bill. Do you really think its ‘a good look’ to keep airing your opinion of my ‘spirituality’ before people who don’t give a monkeys? I did watch your clip. I’m not keen on that theological understanding and what it produces. We’ve talked about why and neither of us have shifted positions. How about letting it go now?
Without making this even more protracted than it’s become … I’ve never been to Mecca or N Korea but DID vote remain. I was persuaded at the last by a close friend who outlined the inevitable economic implications and, to be fair, felt that my vote really wasn’t too important because we would be staying in anyway. I was definitely torn and uncertain in the build up. Sometimes you only recognise what’s in your heart after the event. At the risk of enraging certain posters .. I found myself relieved as well as shocked at the outcome. I had prayed for what was best (I know!! I Know!!) But I am Christian ..further incoming from, Bill dear God this is a minefield!!..so it should be expected that I would do that prayerthing at such a monumental time. My understanding has developed since that time and made firmer my view … which I think I’m entitled to without ridicule and defamation of character..that the long term implications will be for the best. Hope that explains, Heath, how I made the statement you quoted yet really had voted remain. I am pretty sure that you won’t find any merit in this explanation, Gurney ..but you’ve actually told me that I didn’t do what I did so, as ever, there’s little ground for or point in trying to have discourse with you.
Finally .. I have appreciated the several comments in this thread from posters who, I know, really struggle with some of my perspectives but have recognised that all the doppelganger/Les nonsense is .. to be generous ..unhelpful.You really are ‘tracking’ me, Gurney. Some dossier you’ve compiled.
For a guy that you think is ‘concerned with being liked’ I seem to provoke a fair amount of opposition. Even my ol’ mate Bill is still showing the same compulsion to sneer in every post just as you you’ve decided to do.
Re prayer … you’re right. I did mention it a month ago and then before that as your dossier shows. In this latest exchange I made the mistake of simply engaging in the current conversation without anticipating that you were still smarting from old exchanges. Maybe you should send me a copy of the dossier.
Re the EU your dossier should turn up my explanation as to the process I went through during and after the referendum. The key word is process,Gurney. Some folk approach certain situations in life with a degree of caution and uncertainty and their thinking evolves. Some people regard that as evidence of confusion, immaturity .. or even suspect that there’s a lack of honesty being displayed. Others see it as a commendable, even humble approach to a world where truth can be quite tentative and a change of mind is often a reflection of wisdom. I tend to find that those adopting the first attitude are usually quite rigid in their thinking, bound by ideology and dismissive and even disrespectful to those challenging their narrative. It may offer a touch of gratification but it’s not a recipe for personal growth.
As an afterthought …. Since you posed a similar question in reverse.. is there any difference between accepting an unelected figurehead as Head of State and accepting the diktats of unelected officials in a remote bureaucracy?I’ve got a nagging feeling that maybe ..just maybe .. you’re just not too keen on me, Gurney. My advice was genuine … although the prayer stuff seems to have come from within you. Maybe you should give it a go if it’s popped into your head. On the other hand … I definitely DID advocate
honesty and respect as a path to personal growth. You should try it sometime. You’re ‘apparently confused’ again, Gurney. As I said previously … I voted remain. I was ambivalent at the time … but found myself happy with the outcome. It may be unpalatable to you… but certainly shouldn’t qualify me as the biggest Brexiter on the board. But then again I’ve never found you interested in pursuing truth. Hence the misnaming and deliberate melding of posters. We’ve locked horns a few times on here but there’s only one person resorting to misrepresentation and jibes. Just let your arguments stand and stay respectful. You’ll actually grow as a person.
Good points, Sidey. My ‘rant’ was just an attempt to ingratiate myself. As everyone knows I don’t like to stand out from the crowd. When even Bill can’t post without a swipe at me I know it’s time to mend my ways and try to fit in somewhere. Since the majority either feel that anyone with a more nuanced approach is gullible, suffering a form of psychosis or just an idiot .. or at least, apart from you, either deferring to them on even thanking them ..I decided to jump in myself in the sane vein in the hope of winning some friends. I’ve obviously failed again. Maybe just calling you all miserable sinners would be better ..at least it will prove NI right and Bill will start to be my friend again. What’s a guy to do,eh?

Rip it all up I say! Everything. Stop pandering to these doffers and idiots. (And we know they are .. because IA and Gurney and especially 64 say so. FACT …so it must be. Plus we know how from the history of their posts how tolerant of difference and nuanced their thinking is … so when their new society is inaugurated we’ll all be accepted and ok. Its obvious.)
So … demolish the lot! It’s never worked anyway. Look at history. The UK compared to most alternatives has always been a hell hole…and who on earth would want to come and live here now??!!
Dismantle all those historic institutions that can’t be logically and rationally explained and whatever comes next HAS to be better. FACT!!
And as for the Police. Don’t get me started. Just symbols of the establishment and repression. Leave Policing to the people. Local communities living together in harmony and goodwill and locally organised groups of tolerant citizens preserving order for the good of all. You know it works. Just look around the world.Look at history. Time to unleash revolution and destructionI say ..and let the intrinsic good fill the void.FACT!!A balanced approach,Sidey. Far more useful than the name calling at the beginning. (I wonder if 64 has ever had a generous impulse toward anyone who doesn’t see the world exactly through his jaundiced lense.)

Safe and secure elections every time. Bus pass to show you’re a pensioner, season ticket card to get entry, ID for banking. No problem.
Move it please.
April 21, 2023 at 10:33 am in reply to: Yet another…’what have you been listening today?’ Thread #260504Going ‘below the surface’ … any Christian who thinks he/she isn’t ‘a work in progress’ is deluded and misrepresents the faith. It’s in that space that some of the apparent inconsistencies sit. And then , of course , there may well be the bad actors who have adopted a label but have no spiritual authenticity. I’ve met a few and don’t blame people for being put off. Jesus warned that they would show up in every generation.
A fair cop, Heath. (On the surface at least)
I wasn’t suggesting that anyone wasn’t ‘allowed’ to say or do anything, IA. Just offering a different perspective, albeit with a touch of sarcasm.
I’ve written loads before on the ‘reasonableness’ of the Christian faith and elicited a range of responses. Some of them have even been respectful!! Others have expressed their views more stridently… Christians are ‘unintelligent’ or ‘uneducated’ or two faced etc. (I even have one poster who ignores all the efforts I’ve made and calls me a ‘silent Christian.) I do find it interesting how Christianity attracts strong adverse comments when other ‘faith groups’ seem to go under the radar. I suspect that as our culture increasingly buys into the fantasy of a secular and progressive Utopia the frustrating resilience of our Judaeo Christisn roots will attract even more opposition. As a Christian I love to check in to the Bru to sharpen my theological insights alongside the experts. I’d stick to footie and political wrangling if I were you boys.
He’s improved our relationship with HMRC. He’s improved our relationship with the Bank. He’s shown a willingness to rectify decisions made under
unusually pressured circumstances. He’s improved our relationship with the future … possibly … and even with our old, relentless friend ..Reality.5 users thanked author for this post.
‘Stay. Prove yourself over ten games with your own players picked carefully and moulded as your team.’
I remember Adkins being slated just before we squeezed into Lge 1 playoffs … and promotion. I remember Russ breaking that record, winning promotion and being slated. Laws gave us years of entertainment and built the Adkins team .. and is still despised by some. The list of Managers not fit for purpose is longer than the years that some posters have been in long trousers. Dean needs 10 games next season to show us he has it. Hilton needs our support. I don’t want a knee jerk Chairman again. Some stability and loyalty a la Wharton.

I should add … I’m not actually that pessimistic. Maybe Rene’s is better.
Just to be clear, Bill .. have I upset you at some point? I do indeed seem to have that gift. I will reflect on it.
Thanks for bothering to reflect on this, Sidey. ( And also for making the effort to get past the closure of our discussion to offer the above. Nor sure why that closure happened.) One problem is that online discussion cuts off important aspects of communication eg body language, facial expression, tone etc Also makes for more confusion since immediate clarification isn’t possible before we formulate a response. We sure are on different pages re the laptop … but the truth isn’t going to be evident for either of us some time I think. Maybe we will re visit this in the future?
On the Nazi issue it seems to be ironic really that we have somehow clashed when you are actually, in my view, the most clearsighted on the issue of the Jews and Israel. Ah well.1 user thanked author for this post.
Gurney said Dim. Not you! It’s clearly stated. How can we engage productively if you dont read carefully.
And if the definition of ‘pompous’ is disagreement with you .. then I am happy to leave you to the echo chamber . -
