JustIron. Genocide is not acceptable. Whether 64 is stupid, intelligent or just a shit stirrer, the facts are that Hamas were wrong to attack Israel and the Israeli’s are wrong to attack Gaza. 1300 killed on one side & 2600 killed on the other. The vast majority of them being civilians. As I said, not acceptable.
Thanks for letting me know about the unacceptable nature of Genocide my friend. Never thought of that.
The Israeli Govt has a moral responsibility to protect its own citizens as a priority. That’s why we elect Governments. Unfortunately for the people of Gaza they were conned into electing a demonised death cult who not only don’t care about their own people but actually use them as a weapon of war. Now that you’ve ‘kept score’ and Israel are leading by a ratio of 2-1 maybe you should suggest they shrug off the events of last week, forget the paltry 150 hostages and host a singalong of Kumbaya.Couldn’t resist referencing me , eh Gurney … although I didn’t understand it to be fair. Always happy to be ‘educated’ by you :)
So I was right Gurney. You’re definitely less than enamoured of faith. ps How’s the work with Yemen and Sudan getting along?
64 ..3 possibilities as to why you post in this way. a) You simply love provoking a reaction. The more you can stir the better. Gives life to the site etc b) You’re either a bit lazy or a bit simplistic in your analytical skills. All that nuance and complexity ain’t for you. Just pick a side and pile in. Apart from anything ..who wants all the hard graft of learning the history and weighing the situation ..of being educated. c) Your a dyed in the wool ‘progressive’ ideologue who sees all through a lens of ‘colonisation’ of the noble savage. Boy does it feel good to have a cause ..especially if it costs nowt personally. Maybe one of the three or some mixture of them all.

Two contributions that gave my morning a good start.
1. Bills turn of phrase..’ a labyrinth of shotgun waffle.’ How good is that!
2.Deerey’s thoughts straying to real ale and single malt. Very droll. Made me smile anyway.… so can I take it that you’re not over keen on Christianity, Gurney?
Yes. Alot to agree with there,IA. Definitely partly an expression of power etc to strike awe and to reinforce the hierarchy. But I don’t want to be too harsh. There was also a genuine expression of wanting to honour God and as cultural treasures they are unsurpassed. I’ve been able to appreciate them for the grandeur and huge achievement of building them with such limited technology. But as far as spirituality is concerned they leave me a bit flat. I’ve always preferred the front room and hired hall at the pub
And I guess that links to several of your comments about where Jesus chose to hang out. Have you had Theological training? :)Not meant as an insult. I think that most folks .. especially of a radical ilk .. feel that they are free thinking and have come to their perspective by a kind of self generated wisdom. My take is that forces shape us ..including our thinking .. that we ‘know not of.’
‘Every time I hear a newborn baby cry, or touch a leaf ..or see the sky…’ That old Batchelor’s song from my boyhood keeps circling in my mind, NI. I’m not sure that the only place to begin is where you choose. I’d have more confidence in taking your position if there was any evidence that you’re certainties are borne out of anything other than self based confidence and the illusion of an independent mind. I guess that’s why times of deep uncertainty and even suffering so often prove to be the gateway to the kingdom. As someone we’ve both heard of said ..amongst some other good things ..’ Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.’
For those who don’t come from Indonesia the above translates as ‘ I’m a new member and may come over with that Korean guy. Can anyone tell me if the burgers are any better now that Hilton and Swanny are no longer around? ps Why nobody like Grimsby?’
OK. So not so much aimed at me. Fair does.
He was definitely there. I saw him. So the only other possible explanations for his summary are either not concentrating or having a health episode ..or maybe being rabidly biased.
Just to be a bit defensive here, Heath .. and I believe justifiably.. this thread was started by 64, there were several responses and then, eventually, I also contributed. At that point you felt that someone was ‘banging on.’ There were further responses and so I contributed again… to which you offered I should ‘give it a rest.’ Now, call me me slightly cynical, but that sounds to me like you don’t mind a discussion on these faith matters as long as they are one sided ..but not if someone presents a heartfelt, ‘friendly’ and clear presentation of a Christian perspective. Now I’m a pretty sensitive guy, I’m not keen on doing a ‘ Ned Flanders’ and turning every subject into some kind of faith confrontation ..but in this case the old ‘ramming it down our throats’ argument is not cutting it. At least make a fair start, if the topic upsets you, and ask 64 not to introduce such topics and other posters not to engage. Meanwhile ..here at faith central .. I’m still believing and praying.
I feel like I’ve got to know you guys a bit over these last years ..even a kind of friendship. Why wouldn’t I take the opportunity ..when it seems appropriate.. to offer what I consider the best news for any person to connect with. Thanks for fairly respectful responses. Maybe a day will come when present certainties melt away and different kinds of questions and needs will draw you. If it turns out that anything I have posted or may post on here turns out to be some kind of signpost then I would be delighted. I believe that prayer is the most powerful force in the universe if offered in honesty, faith and love so that’s what I’ll continue to do. The beauty is that I don’t even need your real names. He knows who you are .. and not meaning it as a threat .. He knows where you live :)
I’m really sorry that you don’t know how much He loves each of you and how He longs for you to discover what you were born for. As Bill has intimated in his usual confrontational style.. it is each one’s responsibility to turn to Him .. not to grasp for shallow distractions like medieval buildings or the expressions of evil in the world as a dismissive excuse. If you look at a human incarnation of God covered in blood and snot and spit and crying for forgiveness for his murderers then you are starting in the right place. That’s who I came to know as a 23 year old and I want everyone to taste what he offers.
Me too…. I think I’ll have another look. :)
I agree that it’s a terrible dilemma. Israel ..as in the past campaigns .. does try to give warning about its targets and does try to identify Hamas infrastructure… but undoubtedly that is extremely limited. A purely ground operation will mean many further Israeli casualties, hence the bombing first. A terrible tragedy.

Given some of the demos around the world .. and even the odd comment on here .. its far from unconditional support for Israel, Heath.
My son in law is now called up. Should he refuse for humanitarian reasons? In my circles in Israel I dont know anyone who hates Arabs or wants the people of Gaxa to suffer. But they believe that something has to be done about the anti Jewish/ anti Israel maniacs embedded in Gaza.
‘ How much retribution is enough? ” That’s simplistic in my opinion. If it was just about that then would the Israelis be morally obliged to kill a matching amount of Arabs and then call a halt. You are missing the fact that this is an ongoing matter of national security and threat from a fanatical ‘death cult.’ Perhaps after Pearl Harbour the USA should have bombed a Japanese port, sunk some of their navy and then gor on with life..
Once again innocent people on both sides are paying the ultimate price in what will turn out to be another bloodbath, why can’t people just live peacefully and allow people of all colour and religion to carry about their own lives in peace and harmony.
It’s because there is a metaphysical force for evil that most folks are totally unaware of. Thankfully there is a vastly superior force for love and truth which one day will deal with all of this wickedness. That day may well be on the horizon.
Just to go back to KVV … I still occasionally find myself mulling over his winner at Grimsby. And that ‘disgraceful’ celebration. For that alone he’ll surely live long in the memory of Iron fans. Then I just have to have another You Tube peek. ….That’s what I’ll do now.

Hurting too much yesterday to respond. No you don’t understand 64. You have no idea. Running suspiciously contrived clips to mitigate the barbarism and savagery we have just witnessed is despicable. I know that you love a deliberately simplistic posting to provoke a reaction. You could have at least waited until the last hostage has been freed .. or killed, raped or mutilated .. and the full body count has been made in Israel. You couldn’t even manage the usual etiquette of waiting for the inevitable suffering in Gaza before pointing the finger
Despicable.I really enjoy watching Butterfield. As above .. that classy calmness every time he gets the ball. Awareness and confidence, even with the limitations of age. That first half fizzer along the ground that nearly deceived their keeper was a joy to watch.

My daughter and grandkids are safe, Bill. So are my sister in law and nephews and nieces. In case you or anyone is interested.
What with all of this and concern for Armenian friends it’s a bit stretching. My advice to anyone is not to hold on to too many grievances and grudges at the personal level. They can morph into the kind of demonic violence which are filling our TV screens at present and ertainly don’t represent the one who said ‘ Love your enemies and bless those who despite fully use you.’
That’s all I can muster. Sidey pretty well says it for me.1 user thanked author for this post.
I’m bringing two. Can’t wait. Hope the arrival of the March around 2 15 doesn’t lead to turnstile issues, huge queues and a late Kick Off. Still … a healthy problem to deal with.
My son down south now has this. His 6 year old son has yet to visit Glanford Park. Maybe soon!!

You’re at risk of acting like those you are criticising.
I guess it’s what social media is all about?
A fair note of caution there, NI.
To be fair .. I managed to avoid most of the heated stuff. My only real Social media is on here and I live away from the town. I don’t see Simon as much more than a passionate fan who has wanted to believe the best ..probably knows he’s been duped and may have made some errors of judgment. We need passionate fans.
Some of the other cited behaviour sounds criminal to me. However, being a teenager or just being immature shouldn’t mean ‘banning for life.’ That’s where we start to get into the territory NI warns against.
My aim has been not to get drawn into the partisan exchanges … a bit like knowing when to withdraw from a row. Things get said ..even done ..in the heat of the moment which only deepen the problems. Perhaps the most irritated I got was the relentless ‘exposures’ of Interested Bystander. I know that he was seen as a valuable contributor. I recognise that he has been largely vindicated. What irked me was the sense of a personal grievance that was never explained and would not know when to stop. If we carry that same intensity forward in the fan base then the ‘legacy’ we give to Peter Swann and David Hilton will be months ..even years .. of toxic exchanges and a disunited fan base.1 user thanked author for this post.
October 3, 2023 at 11:03 pm in reply to: This saga is unending but I hope it resolves like this #274451For me … I think the best way forward is to let recriminations and grievances go. This has been a nightmare of speculation and confusion. In such scenarios people often lose their bearings, get heated and step over the line. Apologies for genuine errors of judgment … fair enough. But talk of ‘binning off’ and ‘banning.’ Won’t be long before someone compiles a list I suppose. I hope it’s not too big … we’re going to need every supporter we can get. How about taking advice from ‘Frozen’ and just let it go.
