Give them time Mick, it’s worth remembering that Cox has no managerial experience anywhere near this level so everything is a work in progress.
One thing is clear from the players interviews and the performance today and that’s he’s got the dressing room behind him and they’re willing to put the work in to grind out a result.
Really made harder work than what it should’ve been by retreating into the trenches after 70minutes, hopefully that’s something Cox drills out of them because more often than not we’d have conceded there.
However, credit where it’s due. There was so much hard work, determination and effort out there today. Excellent defending, especially from beadeau, cordner and Onariase when he came on.
MOTM was Watson. 3 brilliant saves that kept us in it. Pleased Rory has had a positive start to the season.

Interesting map.
Highlights what a staggeringly miserable afternoon Loft had.
Difficult to lay into Hornshaw when he’s only being used a makeshift right back.
If push comes to shove next week I’d be looking at playing Mcghaey at right back and O’Malley Left back.
Can’t disagree with most of the comments above.
The formation we started with needs binning off. Keep it simple please!
Switching to 4-4-2 We looked comfortable on the ball and at least resembled something of a team. Good build play, especially starting from the back, however there nothing of note in the final third. Loft and Turan were crap today, simple passes were beyond Their capabilities. That cannot be the standard to make it into our first team.
That Crawley team were there for the taking today and we have come up well short.
It’s not Tottenham’s or Liverpool’s obligation to ensure Macclesfield pay their tax bill; live within your means and budget accordingly.
Maybe not directly but it doesn’t help that the Premier League refuses to share TV money properly, or that rules are consistently changed to suit the big clubs, like the EPPP scheme which undermines the academies of small clubs or the introduction of B-teams into the Football League Trophy. The list is a long one.
But the Premier League isn’t solely to blame, if Football League clubs were more united and less willing to bend over for a few pennies from the Premier League table, we wouldn’t be quite so badly off now. But there is no solidarity between clubs, everyone is solely out for themselves.
However, my point around self governance remains the same. Bury knew roughly their yearly turnover, yet they rode along with a madman’s spending spree when Beckford and co rolled into town. In no other walk of life would you get away from running a business so recklessly
Very fair point, so why don’t we govern clubs more strictly? Why do we allow owners to run up such appalling debts? The league could and should impose much tougher rules to stop them doing that but refuse to do so. Make owners post a bond each year to cover costs if the club runs into financial problems. Keep a much closer eye on finances during the season and react quicker if problems are occuring. Stop any one owner having overall majority control. These things are all possible!
Unfortunately with the premier league we are probably now past the point of meaningful reform. A European Super league or a closed shop franchise Are always options on the table for the big boys.
In regards to the football league; a bond covering costs for the season and fan representation within boardrooms are great ideas. I’m sure some variation of the 50+1 rule can be implemented, especially for the smaller clubs.
Fair points Cliff but the lower leagues main revenue for most clubs is the gate money and as the bigger clubs have deals in place from sugar daddys like Sky which help them considerably more then the other 72 clubs. I agree broadly with the points you make but what about the ” big football family ” that gets touted about our league structure, one big football family etc etc? The bigger clubs could do more if they got together and approached the FA with some ideas, should they?, will they? We all probably know the answer, the little guys will fold, so get your nostalgia stories ready in a few months time.
I take your point about gate money during this time, perhaps there is more help that should be given from the top table.

Macclesfield’s plight began long before The Covid pandemic. Additionally, The Blame for The financial mess some of the lower league teams find themselves in doesn’t belong to the premier league.
It’s not Tottenham’s or Liverpool’s obligation to ensure Macclesfield pay their tax bill; live within your means and budget accordingly.
We have spent well over 100% of our turnover on wages for years now, that is unsustainable and no-one else’s responsibility but our own.
Southend are currently looking to redevelop Roots Hall for 500 new homes and move into a 14,000 stadium which They have the catchment area fill; Something tells me a solution will be found.
Ferrite is bang on the money with fans expectations being a contributory factor- you Even see it from our supporters on a regular basis these days.
Great shame to Lose another club, but they won’t be the last.
You are next from the bottom and I aren’t far above you.
Normality resumed then
SST- I know they’re usually wrong and not worth recording, but is there any reason why my prediction scores aren’t showing on the table?
Agreed with Spence- thought he did a lot of donkey work today and got himself in the right positions.
Despite it not being an easy watch that is a game we could have easily lost and probably would’ve done last year. The lads came out at the start of the 2nd half with real intent and it’s a shame so many stoppages in play occurred after we scored because it seemed to knock the momentum out of us.
Thought it was a really Poor first half and struggled to see why we set up how we did. Back to the square pegs in round holes scenario with Eisa chasing shadows up front, Gillead anonymous in centre mid and both wing backs looking uncomfortable. Newport showed confidence on the ball, controlled the game and deserved their half time lead.
Second half We came out with intent and tried to take the game to Newport. When we got the ball moving Newport started retreating further back and allowed our creative players more time on the ball; Hippolyte impressed me second half, still rough round the edges but tried to be positive. The 3 centre backs did well for the majority; Mcgahey had a poor first half but improved during the second.
Loft’s goal was superb, can’t wait to see him link up with Mcatee or Kev.A Scrappy game with a draw the fair result.
Cautiously optimistic.
Anything above 12th place is an achievement; the budget has been reduced and expectations should be managed accordingly.
The squad is still too large and excess fat will need to be trimmed. Part of our problem in recent seasons has been too many players sat on the sidelines offering no use whatsoever; can’t be good for morale and stifles player development.
Entertaining games, hard work, a good cup run and the double over the cod heads should suffice. Additionally I’m actually looking forward to watching a team with something to prove rather than mercenaries looking for a final pay cheque.
14th-18th place.
Cambridge still not sold 1,000 tickets for tonight’s trial game in the EFL cup.
Not sure if that’s a reflection on the pointlessness of the competition or a reflection on supporter enthusiasm to return.

Loft 8I don’t think I’ll be rushing back to GP come October. I’d probably go to a non-league ground like Brigg or Bottesford where there aren’t many people and plenty of open air but I don’t think I’d really be that interested in going to GP. Besides, it’s going to be such an odd experience, so different from what you’re used to, that I’m not sure I’d enjoy it anyway.
I wonder how many people will share a similar view; by the time supporters are allowed back it will be nearly 7 months since competitive football; plenty of time to form new habits, appreciate a healthier bank balance and generally just lose interest.
In regards to Non-league: Bottesford are home tomorrow night in the FA cup extra- preliminary.
600 sold at the time of the podcast with Swann being released.
By far the best podcast with Swann; great job all round.
Good to hear we are now running on a more sustainable model and were set to break even; I agree with him that the new salary cap is unfair and in fact was put in place to stop clubs such as ourselves and bury spending 150% of turnover and wages.
Still not convinced on our transfer committee and I hope it doesn’t hinder his relationship with cox. Additionally his assessment of our squad’s experience was naive, we definitely need some experience.
Overall, Felt more positive about the club’s prospects after listening though.
The fact this week a young player whilst here whom was shown little support by the club management team and fanbase alike has just been sold for 1.5million a year later should be lessons learned for us all.
Hopefully he Was chosen for the position by Cox and not elsewhere. Regardless, he’s the type of person we need at the club, especially with such a young squad.
Really pleased with both managerial appointments; they have persuaded me to purchase a season ticket For next year and I’d presume a few others the same.
