Howard will be a crucial signing for us. He makes the odd mistake but it’s not a coincidence we are conceding 3’s and 4’s again with him injured.
The hypocrisy holds no bounds when you see the likes of Sky peddling the narrative that the Super league is the enemy against the fans. This was always going to be the next logical step after the premier league. At least the owners of the big clubs are so Blatant in their disregard about fans it hardly feels like a betrayal.

O’MALLEY—5—No defender should score more than 5, because they cannot defend.
TAFT—6—Played ok.
Brilliant work!
Get that man on the coaching team!
Who I’d like to keep but will probably go:
Gillead
Eisa

Mcatee
Clarke
Van Veen

Hallam
HippolyteRealistically we could be left a core of:
Watson

Bedeau
Taft
Rowe
O’Malley
Beestin
Hippolyte
Spence

LoftThat first 20 minutes was an utter farce, only comparable to the opening 20 minutes of the Bradford game a few years ago when we went down.
I can’t see 2 of the bottom 3 mounting enough points to overtake us but it really is a depressing finish to a difficult season.
This is almost comical to watch it’s that bad.
Could easily end up 5 or 6 hereIn terms of more than one not pulling their weight during the last few games-I’d definitely say there’s a few more to add to the list.
However, the work rate has been there for the majority of the season and is in fact probably one of the only reasons we are not heading to non-league.
The real issue was highlighted last night- we have players at this club which aren’t good enough.
1997 – 2013 Messrs Wharton & Wharton.
2013 – present Peter Swann.
Should we get a grip or shall we just get another chairman?
True- but I also recall supporters calling for Hurst’s head after 5 games on here.

Sounds like a complete and utter shambles on and off the field.
Seems like some players take no notice of what he wants !
Showed his lack of experience by being interviewed whilst still angry.
Don’t think after this outburst it will improve things as most of them won’t be here next season anyway.I thought it was a brilliant interview; refreshingly honest and confirms what most of us know.
They players in general aren’t good enough and every time he tries to give them some freedom we get punished, hence the defensive/counter attacking football.
A few of them are in for a rude awakening when contracts expire.

Turned it off at 3.
I will come on here, try to remain positive and defend the team whenever possible, but that shower of shite is inexcusable.
Just get the players involved who are going to be here next year- even if it’s a few U18’s.
This is pathetic viewing.
I wondered the same initially, Ferrite; but as mentioned above you’d like to think that the reason is because we are eyeing up a permanent move in the summer, and this gives us chance to have a closer look.
Or is that too pro active ?
I won’t use the Chairman’s ambition as a stick to beat him with, Barton. In fairness he gave it a pretty good go at getting us into the championship and put his money where his mouth was. He’s also not the first, and certainly won’t be the last to hit numerous stumbling blocks in relocating a football ground; perhaps in hindsight constantly giving completion dates was his downfall.
But you are correct that Fans shouldn’t be patronised or criticised for voicing discontent about our current position. Hardly going to entice the faithful back.

If the chairman wants to see a dignified way to handle criticism, he should look no further Neil Cox.
He’s come across well this week and I was impressed with his calm response on Humberside prior to the game.
Positives:
A hard working, industrious display; you cannot refute Cox motivates the players to put in a shift- they were absolutely knackered come full time.
Watson- another solid display, I’ve been impressed with him since his return, seems to have made a conscious effort to command his area more. An excellent stop from the corner too.
Clean Sheet.
Gillead in general.
Seeing Joe Murphy back at GP
Negatives:
Forward players too deep- Van Veen and Mcatee worked incredibly hard but I don’t want to see them linking up on the half way line. Peter Clarke had the turning circle of an oil tanker and we didn’t do enough to exploit that.
Not enough shots on goal again- another relatively simple afternoon for an opposition’s keeper. Need to create more.
Defending set pieces- I don’t know why this has suddenly become a thing, but we look petrified at defending corners all of a sudden.

It was the most deflated I’ve heard him on an interview and doesn’t fill me with confidence moving forward.
The response to the season ticket holder was a poor listen, I don’t necessarily agree with the complaint but you have to at least acknowledge their opinion and offer an argument to come back.
It reminds me of the max bell book incident, another PR own goal.

I’m sure Mansfield were one of the first clubs to offer the ‘pay what you want’ incentive to supporters and nearly filled the ground.
Would anybody mind posting a link to the interview ?

The issue won’t be attracting fans back who have grown accustomed to watching it on Ifollow, it will be those who have found other things to do on a Saturday afternoon and lost the interest altogether.

We not bothered about defending corners tonight ?
The lads highlighted an important issue and it’s got to be at the forefront of the club’s mind-I doubt it is though.
Exciting football is the obvious answer, but to honest the problem runs deeper than that. I think the club needs an overhaul on how it is perceived, and how it engages with the supporter base.
Where’s the drive for season tickets? Existing holders, members, casual supporters should be getting bombarded with early bird deals. Set the marketing department a target and let them start getting creative. I understand we don’t have the casual support of Bradford/Huddersfield to heavily subsidise tickets, but surely we get more
Creative? In terms of casual offers: a few years ago we had tickets for £10- the crowd for port vale was over 7,000 ( It was a crucial game) and over 5,000 for Bury in January. Why have we never gone back to that? If it’s a matter of cost then I’d point to the overbloated squad of 35 players we’ve had for the last few years and show you a waste of money.
The overall match day experience needs improvement- as supporters we can play our part- but it would good to see the club actively encourage ways in which the home atmosphere can improve; provide a drum, flags, open up the clugston corner again? Not my preferred options but it’s worth exploring.
If we carry on our current trajectory I can see us struggling to hit 3,500 on a regular occurrence again.
Many on this forum have supported our team for many years. Quite a few can beat my 56 years of suffering interspersed with occasional joy.
If we were the type to walk away when the club are struggling we would have probably done it before now.
Cox inherited a dogs breakfast of a team who regularly got spanked by fairly poor L2 teams.
He managed to plug some gaps by bringing Brown, Howard and Karajan from the ranks of the unemployed and deserves some credit for that. He then brought Taft and Howe in who both have improved the squad. He has been unlucky that 2 of last seasons best players (Van Veen and McAtee) have contributed about 10 minutes of quality each in the whole season albeit for different reasons.
We are far from a good side but we don’t get spanked anymore. We have stopped letting in goals that pub teams would be embarrassed about. Every 2 or 3 games we even play a bit of football.
We would all love to be in better shape and we all have great memories of much better times but I am not sure Cox is the culprit here.
Good post.
We had 3 promotions from the years 1950-1998. I honestly don’t know how some coped. 100% you’ll be there next season Barton, you’re not fooling anyone.
The football’s been boring this season and that needs to improve but I can bet that if we revisited pre-season predictions then most would have been happy with mid table, if you’d have asked people at some points than most would’ve accepted 22nd no strings attached.
Team won the last game and are pretty much safe from relegation. All quiet on the Swann front.
Forum is only busy when we have something to moan about.
We often seem to forget to turn up against what is usually a bang average Crawley team. That would get things moving again.
No activity on here is usually a reliable barometer the previous match performance went well.
However I anticipate a defeat on Friday will bring 2 threads calling for the managers head and also being reminded we have the worst Team in Scunthorpe’s history.
He was in team of the week for them too.
Karma is a bitch
A decent night’s entertainment and a solid performance all round. As others have pointed out, Eisa, Gillead, Beadeau and Howe were the stand outs but no-one really had a poor game.
I fear we won’t be seeing Gillead here next season as he surely must realise he’s better than the lower rungs of league 2, seemed to catch the attention of Bradford fans aswell.
Pure stupidity from Clarke and has left us right in the creek with no CB cover.
Terrible performance and almost felt embarrassed when we equalised. Not that Southend were much better mind.
Just don’t know why we were lacking all over today- Grimsby aside we have really struggled against the poorer teams.
A lot of work to be done in the summer.
Although not technically our Players, I’ve been impressed during the last year with the Calibre of player coming through the u23 system. We’ve had Rowe, Green, Mcatee, Beestin and O’Malley all breakthrough recently. Hopefully some of the u18’s get the opportunity to progress through the ranks aswell as it’s certainly a more sustainable way of operating.
I guess the key thing is making sure we have an experienced, solid spine to the team and not throwing them all in at once which seemed to happen earlier in the season.
If there’s any truth in it then Spence and Loft look like a steal
Looks like rubbish to me.
Jarvis on £1500 as said is nonsense and I don’t see that there’s any chance whatsoever we resigned Clarke on over £3000 a week.
You’d hope so!
