Feels like another big game for Butler, needs a strong performance and a result. Alfreton will be engaging in the dark arts from the 1st minute so I feel an early goal is crucial.

I do think Deerey had a point a week or so ago. The back 5 didn’t help, but there are bigger problems afoot. I am not convinced by the balance of the squad and wonder if they actually are good enough.

    This.

We were outplayed during large periods of the game last night, not through a dodgy ref or negative tactics, but a better footballing side on a large pitch.

A lot has been pinned on the formation whereas I’ve always thought that it was a red herring, I’ve heard from a few people now that our squad just isn’t good enough and that’s becoming more apparent by the week.

Our ball retention is very poor, unless we go sideways along the back line then it unlikely we keep possession for a noteworthy length of time. Last night our shooting was diabolical, barely registered a shot on target from a few good positions.

Positives are another clean sheet and some incredible goalkeeping- Beck also looks to be an astute signing, we just need to start making better runs off him
As he hardly loses a ball in the air.

We’re not entitled to success, and clubs across the country regularly get it wrong. Including among those with high budgets for their level. I think some perspective is needed, instead of constant melodrama.

Not entitled to success no, but we have the tools to be successful at the level we’re at. As for clubs getting it wrong, we are and, I think, as fans we’re entitled to point that out. ( Calls for sacking going a bit too far at the moment IMO but he’s on very thin ice and has to respond quickly.)

I understand that, and criticism is definitely warranted. It’s just the tone and arguments go way beyond just saying “not good enough, Butler”.

Good result against an unbeaten side at home- looks like the change in formation has freshened things up.

Any reports on how we played from those who went ?

My memories of the Laws days were that there were some very good days and some bad days. We had promotions in 99 and 05, which he takes credit for, and the disasters of 99-00 and 03-04. Laws takes the blame for them too. I remember 03-04, when we had Barwick and Kilford in midfield, while Kell and Calvo-Garcia were on the bench and we nearly went down. Still, he got his act together for the next season with some pivotal signings that set us up for our recent halcyon days, with Musselwhite, Crosby, Baraclough and Keogh.

The less said about his last stint the better.

Readily admit I’m looking through rose tinted glasses, but even when we were crap that era of football still at least seemed entertaining.

I don’t know if it’s age that diminishes the enjoyment or that the football in general has moved in a different direction where possession/shape/stats are king.

Certainly can’t envisage we will see flair players like Hodges or mavericks such as Cleveland Taylor anytime soon.

Just caught up on the interview with Ironhour.

Comes across as well intentioned; not entirely convinced having someone with little football experience is a wise move currently, but as always, will give him the benefit of the doubt and wish him well.

Point of of interest was his contacts through the TV industry and the network he has built up, sooner rather than later we will need external investment

Feels like we have the same conversation every year going back to Robins, every time we regress further.

Honestly don’t know where we go, the team/management are devoid of confidence and we are in free fall.

I do agree with the general consensus the formation is no longer working, however our problems are probably deeper than simply going 4 at the back.

Next 2 games being away could be a blessing for him

Be interesting to see where and how carlton fits in now Beck is here. Butler will more than likely go with Whitehall and beck up top so only place he can play is the no 10 role occupied by Roberts and there’s no chance he’ll be going anywhere, and neither should he.

Butler from his interview the other day is keeping with this formation.

    Carlton’s had a rough start, he’ll
Most likely be on the bench for the next few games, however there will be plenty of opportunity to make an impact.

Fish might struggle now unless we get injuries- a short term loan with the option of recall might not do him any harm

Stood out in the cup game for Solihull against us last year, exactly the type of player we are lacking and strengthens a weak area of the side.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see those around him start finding form now

    Turnbull was in football matters

Yes, going out and supposedly identifying players which have proved to not be very good. I like Turnbull, but he’s been living off his past exploits for far too long now.

Acting as Hilton’s henchman wasn’t great either, but he was always here when we needed him so hope he’s ok when it comes to finding further employment. I’m sure another team will employ him in one position or another.

That’s harsh: I’m Not under any impression he acted as Hilton’s henchman unless you can clarify? He released one badly worded statement after the protests whilst trying to walk a tightrope, not something I’ll chose to beat him with when by all accounts he did a fine job during our darkest hour.

Unless there’s been a gross misconduct we all aren’t privy too, then a more thorough statement would have been appropriate.

In footballing terms, our recruitment has been poor for years now, I don’t think a fresh approach will do any harm.

One man’s walking a tightrope is another man’s hedging his bets.

    Can you elaborate ?

Change personnel or fall on your sword, Andy.

    Simply not good enough again.

If Whitehall is injured long term we are in big trouble.

Well Carlton showed that he’s no centre forward. He can’t head a ball and couldn’t trap a bag of cement. And when your two CMs can be pushed off the ball by a six year old, then you’re relying on the only two players with any footballing ability to work some sort of magic. Never going to happen tonight.

The Moors fans were right, “top of the league, you’re having a laugh”!

Agreed, Carlton has barely resembled a professional footballer with performances thus far, I hoped his return would mitigate the loss of Whitehall, not to be and a loan striker becomes more important by the game.

Centre mid is so lightweight it’s laughable- especially with 3 oven ready players capable of playing that position not getting a game. Not that our loss of form is entirely down to him but Clunan has been woeful- keeping playing him at your peril in current form.

Admittedly they have some games in hand but I suspect Trinity fans would swap their cup run for not being 2 points from the bottom of their league.

I can’t see it, they’ll be receiving a healthy cash injection from this run and more importantly creating great memories.

Really hope our club’s mindset towards cup competition, especially the FA cup, changes in years to come

Not constant criticism Cliff, but enough for her to take to the Facebook group recently. A first. I would genuinely be interested to know what her thoughts were about some of the harsher criticisms about club affairs on here but have no wish to see it in print. Yes, CEO should be a much needed help. That’s why the post was created I guess? It’s a shame for one or two on here it has to be one or the other. The other being new players

Feel like I missed something; removed myself from the Facebook group a short time ago after receiving brain rot reading the drivel on there.

    What was posted ?

People will take comfort in their tactics and the refs performance as the reason for our failure to win today, but the reality is we were nowhere near good enough and were lucky for a point.

They matched us man-man and won their individual battles, I find it confusing why they decided to go for a draw when the 3 points were on the table.

Even before kick off you knew we would find it difficult to score without Whitehall, it’s a tough call with young fish as he needs game time to develop but maybe in hindsight today wasn’t the one. Their number 6 had him worked out in the first ten minutes.

My biggest concern is centre midfield and has been for some time. Dixon for Warrington did a number on us and so did the Radcliffe players today. Clunan has absolute stinker and I just don’t see what he brings to the side- I know some rate him but especially against side coming to slow the game down he does us no favours and is not strong enough for that position.

Massively disappointing result today which could come back to haunt us later in the season

Cracking result; pleased To see Whitehall increasing his tally and young Fish getting another start and a goal. Just need Carlton on the scoresheet soon and we finally have some options up front where we looked so lacking a few weeks ago.

Have to follow this up with another good performance and win on Saturday now.

Certainly don’t have much of an appetite for the Fa trophy but it’s still a competition and a chance to build some momentum.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence our downturn started in the league when we went into the fa cup half hearted.

Sounds like we played reasonably well and mistakes seemed to cost us rather than tactics/formation- on this occasion.

Still a dreadful result though, we had a decent opportunity to maintain the gap but now we are part of the pack. I fear Curzon are going to take some stopping, we simply cannot afford to have such indifferent form.

4 times this season we have dropped points from a winning position too, today 2 minutes after we scored both times – better leadership required on the pitch.

    Simple.
    The players aren’t good enough.
    The manager isn’t good enough.

Disagree with the first line, this team is more than capable of winning this league.

Be good to see young fish get another start, sounds like he had a good game on Tuesday.

Our poor run lately has allowed a few sides within touching distance, I have a sneaky suspicion Curzon could be the new Tamworth this year and be right up there, have to look at putting another 3/4 wins together consecutively
