Well said Captain Cod, I’m a haddock man myself but after your post you are definitely ” Dish Of The Day “. 🐟
I can’t stand cod , my nickname was given to me by some of your fans whilst working on the renovations at Baths hall! Captain Haddock doesn’t really sound right !
The situation doesn’t look good , Swanny shafted you big time and it looks like Hilton’s shafting Swann. The Thing I worry about Hilton is the Trump like posturing. He’s not answering any valid questions and just attacking those asking.
He must have anticipated this given his past. He’s trying to turn it into an either you’re with me or against me scenario.
Don’t let it turn into team Hilton V team Swann. The clues in the name . United.
We maybe rivals but this shouldn’t happen to any football club .

Surely you are the one who bears the brunt of the blame for the current situation Mr. Swann? Dodgy Dave’s past is quite clearly in the public domain. Where was the due diligence?
You should get together and sort this mess out even if it means taking a financial hit. You have run this club into the ground. This he said she said internet battle is embarrassing.
The fans have stuck with the club despite the shower you’ve served up over the last 5 years and deserve much better.
It’s not your club its not David Hilton’s club it’s a community asset belonging to the town and people of Scunthorpe.
You and Mr Hilton should hang your heads in shame and that’s coming from a supporter of your biggest rivals .9 users thanked author for this post.
Apologies , I meant Mike Bassett , I’d had a few beers last night !
Probably not WG, I don’t take it to heart , there’s nothing wrong with a bit of banter amongst rivals. I just don’t understand the hatred from a small proportion of both sets of fans.
I’ve spent a lot of time working in Scunny and have friends who are scunny fans so have always read the bru and kept up on your affairs. I see us as very similar clubs and Towns . We’ve spent 7 years in non league and I wouldn’t wish it upon any team .
Although I’d be happy to see you match that due to all the flak we got from you lot , but I didn’t want you to get relegated again and definitely don’t want you to go out of business.
You say we don’t care about each other , but nearly 250 pages about Scunny on the Fishy would suggest otherwise !
Can I ask what’s with the town top on a Scunny forum ? That’s the official Nike kit from around 2005 I believe , where you once on our books?
Both of our clubs have had our dark days , I’m hoping to see us both in the sun again in the not too distant future.
Wouldn’t it be good to have the local Derby at championship level where we’ve both been ? Highly unlikely given the money in the game nowadays but you have to believe!WG, I must agree with you , I’ve been surprised by the quality of your signings and you should have a good chance of bouncing straight back. Also if you do you would have a good chance in the NL the season after, especially if chesterfield get promoted this season.
However there are several caveats. As you said football isn’t played on paper. As an outsider with a little more objective observation I have several concerns.
Firstly, Jimmy Dean seems like a cross between Fred Bassett and Ted Lasso in his interviews. I was very surprised Nelson wasn’t given a chance after polishing a massive turd.
Secondly , these signings can’t come cheap, especially for a part time league. Where is Dodgy Dave, Trevor, Simon, Pete or what ever he’s calling himself this week getting the money from and is it sustainable?
Thirdly where will you play long term ? The ground situation is a complete joke and you’re certainly being lied to. We have more experience in this than most. There’s absolutely no way you’ll have a new ground in 2 years , you’ll be lucky if you even have planning permission by then! It just seems like a game of brinkmanship between White and Swann.
I do however admire your optimism but don’t let it blind you.
Good luck for this season.1 user thanked author for this post.
Ironfromafar, I can not really give an opinion on your chances of promotion as I have absolutely no knowledge of the NLN. I just thought I’d try and save you some money!
Your comment about lack of signings puzzles me. We had a very short close season last year due to the play offs and missed out on most of our targets. However this season like yourselves we have got most of our signings done before training starts and even paid fees for several of them. I can’t remember the last time this happened instead of last minute signings that no one else wants.
We’ve kept the nucleus of the squad that finished 11th and reached the quarter finals of the FA cup together and released the fringe players. We’ve signed Rekeil Pyke (Shrewsbury), Donovan Wilson (Sutton) , Abo Eisa (needs no introduction) on frees and Harvey Rodgers (Accrington) , Danny Rose (Stevenage) ,Toby Mularkey (Rochdale) and Charles Vernam (Lincoln) for undisclosed fees with the promise of more to come.
Our club is now very well run . With the windfall from the fa cup run we have money to spend for the first time in 20 years, although this certainly won’t be spent frivolously by the new owners.
Most of us cod’s are the most optimistic we’ve been since Fenty took over. We’re certainly looking up not down.
Although it may pain you, a better bet would be an outside chance for a top 7 finish for us.
Your signings have impressed me so far , but I’d be more than a little concerned where dodgy Dave is getting the money from if I was you. Seems a little Swann like throwing money you don’t have at promotion or bust.
Good luck for the new season a club like yours doesn’t deserve what’s happened to it.
UTM , UTIThere are some posters on the fishy gloating at your demise, as there were by your fans when we were relegated but on the whole most town fans are sympathetic to the disgraceful way your club has been run. We’ve had our fair share of dark days and the general feeling is it could quite easily have been us.
Personally I don’t want you to drop any further and certainly don’t want you to go out of business. I wouldn’t want to deprive anyone of the enjoyment of supporting their local team. I have far more respect for Scunthorpe fans than the glory hunters of premiership teams.
I was pleased to see the takeover happen but must admit if a man with Mr. White-Anderson-Hilton’s chequered past was running my club I would be worried too.
I hope everything improves for you guys and you’re soon climbing back up the leagues.
I’d rather be playing you lot in a local derby than the likes of Salford and Stevenage.

Tumbleweed is dead , it’s usually blown away by the wind . There’s always a path out of the woods you just have to find it.
Quite a few posters on the fishy have said that they would donate to help save your club so long as it didn’t benefit Swann. As I’m sure genuine fans from other clubs would too. Isn’t this something your supporters trust could organise?
As for going viral you could always ask for help from some of your well known former players to gain maximum exposure. Kevin Keegan , Ian Botham and Billy Sharpe spring to mind .6 users thanked author for this post.
I really hope your take over goes through. Although we’re rivals I would hate to see you go under. We thought we had it bad with Fenty but Swann is on another level.
Self serving , dishonest egomaniacs like him shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a football club. It’s always the genuine fans that suffer.
Good luck you guys I hope you get through this mess.12 users thanked author for this post.
Fenty said that as well ! Despite taking us from the championship to the national league twice his main defence was at least I’ve left the club in a stable financial position !
You couldn’t make it up . If you get your fresh start like we have at least you’ll have hope and that will probably put an extra thousand through the gates and extra revenue .Cliff, Swannys statements are a mirror image of what Fenty told us , yet he doesn’t understand the falling attendances and lack of support is due to his own failures. Fenty also told us there were no investors and dismissed anyone who was willing as tyre kickers. He said the lack of interest and attendances was holding the club back . We couldn’t possibly sell more than 3000 season tickets according to him.
A year after Fenty has gone we’ve sold 5600 season tickets for div 2 football!
The above video is very interesting and produced from a neutral .
I feel for you all, I can’t see Swann relinquishing control and giving you your stadium back it seems to be all smoke and mirrors , he’s lied through his teeth from the start. He’s only in it as Fenty was for self gain.
Obviously we’re rivals but I often work all over Lincolnshire and have friends who are Scunthorpe and Lincoln fans .
What has been done to my club and yours by unscrupulous chairmen and the likes of Bury , Darlington , Stockport, Chesterfield, Notts county and even Derby ,to name but a few should not be allowed to happen .
Despite the rivalry there are some things that football fans should stick together on .
Good look in the national league , I fear you will need it , it’s a horrible league to get out of .

Uptheiron99 , I hope you don’t mind me throwing in my two tuppence worth as a cod head on your own forum , but you really need to wake up and smell the coffee mate. I’ve seen what’s being done to your club twice at ours.
How many players of those are youth players ? Realistically who do you think you are going to sign in the next 5 weeks ,apart from monkeys when Swanny is paying peanuts?
Apologists like you , like they did with us make the situation worse.
We had people like you telling us Fenty was the saviour and without him there wouldn’t be a club . Blaming the fans for staying away.
He’s only been gone a year and we’re on course to sell 5000 season tickets this year, more than we ever did at championsip level .
Don’t accept what you’re getting now. It’s nothing short of disgraceful and I say that as a rival .Total of 21 users thanked author for this post. Here are last 20 listed.
According to some comments on the fishy he’s been training with you , not sure if it’s true or not , but as I mentioned a few weeks ago on here he would be a good signing. Easily worth a place in a top 5 NL team , a good pro and a good bloke as well. We only let him go as he was one of our top earners and Hursty thought he could get better value .
Macca would be a great signing for you . You won’t find a better shot stopper in the NL or L2. Sometimes flaps at crosses and doesn’t command his box as he should otherwise he would have played at a much higher level by now .
Obviously settled in the area after 11 years here, however wages could be the stumbling block. Rumour has it he was on 2 grand a week at town and had an extension clause in his contract that triggered another year after so many appearances. That’s why Hurst dropped him halfway through the season.Well it did take us 6 years the first time but we did have Fenty then and similar circumstances to your own . Good luck in getting rid of Swanny
Thanks for your kind words that can’t have com easily after the last few years you’ve had.
I can’t believe we won the play offs, none of us expected it , we thought we’d be stuck down here for years like the last time. It just goes to show what a change of ownership can do, it really has galvanised our club. I hope you get yours soon .6 users thanked author for this post.
To be fair to him, if his final ball and finishing where as good as his approach play he would probably be playing for a top D1 or lower championship team . Players at his age are in the national league for a reason though. He was very popular here and I think a top half NL team will be in for him.
Erico Sousa who we’ve released today might not be a bad signing for you . Town fans are 50/50 over whether we should have kept him . Very skilful and hardworking , defenders are scared stiff of him and he wins a lot of free kicks . His end product tends to let him down though. Personally I think he would struggle in L2 , but did well for us in the national league last season.
Haven’t heard anyone here mention that we’re after young Gallimore. When I asked about him on another thread you guys seemed to rate him though.
There is a thread on the fishy saying we’re interested in Taft . Can’t see it myself and would be slightly concerened if we are after someone who played in a defence that conceded 90 goals in a season . Is he one of your better players ?Brilliant post , there’s been many times I have felt ashamed to be a mariner over the last 20 years because of the performances on the pitch and actions of our former chairman. But as fans we stand together through good and bad. Players and chairmen come and go (well it took us 18 years to get rid of ours ) but fans don’t .
I’ve seen us win at Stamford bridge, Goodison , Anfield and St James park but also stood in a gloried chicken coop and watched us be embarrassed by part timers like Braintree and Tamworth in the national league .
I’ve only just come to terms with yesterday , a long expensive and emotional day ! But probably one of the most important in our history .
The new owners with their attitude and approach have brought everyone together. They promised us nothing but hard work , honesty, transparency and a will to improve things on a day to day basis.
Leadership starts from the top , and as we had for many years you to have one of the worst chairmen in history .
Hope you get rid of Swanny . Stay united . Football is for the fans6 users thanked author for this post.
The £100,000 you refer to was raised by the fans in operation promotion , which was given to the club to boost the playing budget in the year we were promoted from the national league. It was derided by Fenty who said it put undue pressure on the manager and players.
Maybe if he had given us an adequate budget in the first place we might not have had to do it!
The fans also raised the money to sign Joe Waters from Leicester in the 70s , I think it was about £15,000 which at the time was quite a lot of money. You’re right as well the fans did pay towards the pontoon stand , I’m not sure how much or when as it was a bit before my time.
I have no problem with you wanting us to lose , most scunny fans wouldn’t want to see us promoted when we’re in the same division and vice versa.
As a Mariner I’d always want us to beat you in the derby and always finish higher in the league .
I’m not on here to gloat and I take no pleasure from your current predicament. As a genuine football fan I would hate to see Swanny put you into liquidation or for you to be relegated further. As ever when an egotistical chairman shafts a club it’s the fans that suffer , we know that as much as anyone else. We might be rivals but we’re all football fans. We’ve had years of suffering , we are not that much better off than yourselves but at long last at least we can see a chink of light at the end of the tunnel. I hope that day comes for you soon.5 users thanked author for this post.
As regards the play off tickets and venue it’s a disgrace and sums up how this tin pot league is run .
I think there would have been a lot of complaints who ever was in the final. Before the Olympic stadium was booked by the national league all of the teams who could make the play offs were in the north . The furthest south was Solihull, who will probably sell 5000 tickets max . Surely Old Trafford , the Ethiad , Villa park , Anfield , Molinuex and others could have been better options . Unfortunately it’s more convenient for the national league and their sponsors to have it in London with no regard to the fans of the clubs who are playing in it.
The price of the tickets are more expensive than the championship play off final at Wembley! Compounded with that it’s jubilee weekend and you’re talking 150 quid a night for a room in a travelodge.
The tickets in the lowers tiers sold out this morning to season ticket holders , and there were no concessions for kids in the more expensive upper tiers . Thankfully after pressure from the club , supporters trust and radio humberside the national league have back tracked on that .
It’s just cost me 80 quid for tickets for me and my lad and without staying over , petrol parking and food in the ground it will probably cost me 200 quid for a day out at the football !
I know I shouldn’t moan as were in the final but it just makes me angry that the average football fan is dumped on from a great height by the money men .5 users thanked author for this post.
I guess you were referring to Andrew Petite awaywego? His family butchers shop folded during lockdown and as far as I’m aware he wasn’t involved in it . He made his money in the city in property and investment funds . He has made several light hearted comments about selling Petites sausages in the ground though .
Admittedly some of the new food is pricey , 5/6 quid but it is quality stuff , one of the main complaints from the fans was the quality of beer and food on offer at BP , which lets be honest is overpriced and crap at most grounds.
The kiosks selling the standard fare of over cooked dry pies and a cheap hot dog on a dry half stale bun for 4 quid are still open , but personally I’d rather pay a couple of quid more for something that is tasty and edible . The bars are now run by the supporters trust who get the profits , as well as stands by a local company dock beers who sell their own brewed beer.
Things are by no means perfect at BP and I’m certainly not trying to give it the Billy big Balls on here . I’ve read your forum for the last few years and the similar complaints about your ground . The toilets , the bars , lack of good food , scoreboard not working etc .
Fenty was exactly the same as Swann. We had 18 years of him , I hope you don’t have to endure that with Swann .4 users thanked author for this post.
Can’t argue with you there Iron-awe, I’ve sat in there my self as it used by home fans when only a small away crowd is expected.
The whole of Blundell Park with the exception of the Findus stand needs a lot of redevelopment . It’s been neglected for 20 years whilst our former chairman looked to build a new ground that would feather his own nest . We were still no closer to getting one on the day he left than the day he walked through the door.
The trouble with relocation is that the land Blundell sits on is no where near as valuable as yours. Any profit made would nearly all be wiped out by the costs of dismantling the stands.
In the long term the new owners still want to relocate but in the short term are trying to improve Blundell Park as best they can . I believe plans to install a cantilever roof over the Main stand and Osmand stand are being looked at.
In their first season they’ve engaged with the fans and already hugely improved the match day experience . A fanzone has been created , new bars and better toilet and handicapped facilities, pop up food stalls from local businesses which are excellent. All small things but a step in the right direction.Stockport and Notts county were given 1800 tickets. Although the Osmand stand behind the goal holds more , as is usual at most clubs now the first 4/5 rows are tarpaulined off to help prevent fans jumping on the pitch when they score. Waste of time as it doesn’t work !
I hope Dan Gallimore does well for you . I used to drink in the same pub as his dad Tony , who was known to the town fans and players as Tony gallons more due to his drinking habits but is actually a very nice guy. He was a great player for us at championship level although always huffing and puffing in the last 20 minutes of games due to his off field activities! If his lad his half the player he was he will do well.
I ran into them both on the way out of Glanford Park after we beat you in the last game before lockdown. I asked Tony why he let his son sign for you when your an ex player and town fan? He said I’ve got to do the best for him , scunnys facilities and youth set up are better than towns ! Ouch . True though our training facilities although improving amount to a porta cabin in a field. Thanks Fenty !2 users thanked author for this post.
Some interesting posts on here as usual .
My understanding of the Macatee situation was that he was out of contract, refused your offer as he wanted to play for Hurst again and as he was under 24 we had to pay you a transfer fee that was undisclosed . Please correct me if I’m wrong.
As some of your posters have pointed out I’m sure if Swanny hadn’t decided to dispense of Hurst you’d be in a much better position , although the problems started long before that and you could say the same about Alexander.
Although we’ve had the rub of the green in the play offs so far , which in any knockout competition you do need , the way we’ve played this season has surpassed many fans expectations after 18 years of mismanagement . We’ve taken it as a free hit , consolidation and steady improvements under the new owners was the aim for the season, anything else is a bonus .
The last 2 games will mean nothing if we don’t win on Sunday , that would be so like us, do the hard work against 2 of the favourites in the play offs and then lose to Solihull !
If we don’t go up we will still be in a much stronger position next season even though Wrexham will throw more money at it and will be odds on favourites.
I can see your point about not wanting us to go up as we would fill your away end , I mentioned previously on another thread about how your income streams would be reduced by the lack of away support .
We played Boreham Wood in our 2nd or 3rd to last home game who could have overtaken us in the play off race had they beaten us and they brought a grand following of 16 fans in the away end !
This league is a hell hole , I hope we are not playing you next year for obvious reasons , but if we are it’s one of the games I will look forward to most . All of us Mariners have been here too, we understand the hurt. Hopefully in the not to distant future the local derby will take place in the league again .
Up The Mariners .
