Very well said Tony. I and am sure many supporters agree with this statement Tony has put out. Tony is Scunthorpe United through and through, always has been and always will be. He is absolutely right in saying these two businessmen need to sort out the selling and buying of the stadium and land as previously agreed now and not later. Whoever is reneiging on this needs to get their act together for the good of our Scunthorpe United FC, and give clarification to our supporters of their true intentions. Uncertainty does not bode well for the success we need on the pitch, for the players and supporters.
It’s alright to put a sign up saying land acquired by Scunthorpe United FC but it isn’t acquired until its paid for and signed up. As we know a price and deal agreed means nothing until its signed and paid for. Let’s be honest our Club is in a right mess at present and many of us supporters don’t trust Swann or Hilton. Neither are on speaking terms and it appears to me they could be playing one another. If Hilton has the money surely it would have made sense to pay Swann and then the stadium and land would be secured. If Hilton doesn’t have the money then how will he pay Onward Holdings for their land and also the other company for the mysterious land supposedly for the training pitch. The man must be nearly a billionaire or its pie in the sky.

This all sounds pie in the sky to me. I can’t see Swann agreeing to anything now with Hilton as Hilton said they aren’t speaking. Swann said he wanted the Club, stadium and land all sold as complete and now I would imagine he is very angry as it looks like the payment will not be made by the 24th. If Hilton is playing cat and mouse with our Club he is playing a dangerous game. Why would Swann do as Hilton says as he has always put himself before our Club anyway. Can’t see any if this happening.

I agree with Iron insider, can’t be bothered to listen to any more podcasts. I find them particularly boring too, they make it all about themselves and not the football or our Club. The jokes cracked I don’t find funny, just boring. It’s like four blokes on a pub night out. No professionalism whatsoever.
April 30, 2023 at 7:20 pm in reply to: For Pity’s Sake When Is The Very Short Retained List Announced? #261376Our midfield has been in decline over the past few seasons but I strongly believe this is the worst midfield we have had over the last sixty odd years. Can’t understand why Pugh has been given a contract, he’s a liability and didn’t understand why Dean let Whitehouse go out on loan. I hope we keep Whitehouse and Butterfield and do hope Ogle stays. Robertson looks promising as does Shrimpton but I don’t believe that they are good enough or have enough experience to be first choices. I’m not sure on Beeston although he did look to be improving until injured and I think if O’Malley plays definitely not as full-back but played more as a winger, his crosses and free kicks are his best attributes.

Replying to Awaywego. Yes we did want change and rid of Swann but until after May 24th we don’t know if we will be. I have said many many times we wanted Simon Elliott and Ian Sharpe to take over as did many other supporters, two men who genuinely love SUFC. We like many other supporters believed DH had purchased our Club, land and assets, but this is not yet so. So I am reserving my judgment yet as are many others as to his motives for purchasing our Club name. We shall know after 24th May hopefully. People like choice and to know future plans. Of course season ticket holders are putting money into our Club and comitting to watching The Iron for the full season. Not every fan can afford to purchase a season ticket and those who do are entitled to know the saving they are making by purchasing before the current season ends. You are wrong in your assumption that fans only purchase a season ticket to save money as some fans wish to keep the same seat in the stands, it also saves going to the ticket office for every match and gives preference to cup tickets, that is when we used to stay in any of the cup ties past the first round.
Yes totally agree ironfromafar, it’s very unfair. If Hilton wants to upset fans he is certainly going the right way about things. It must be his decision as he said in his statement he hadn’t wanted to sell season tickets. Another very bad decision in my view, and he doesn’t seem to mind upsetting fans.
I also want to add that I and many supporters are very uncomfortable about having to pay by cash. At least if you pay by credit card and our Club folds and the season ticket is wasted you can claim your money back.
The early bird prices for season tickets expire this Friday and then the website says it will be a new pricing structure after that expiry date. This is the first time the whole new pricing structure hasn’t been put out to supporters. Previously season ticket prices have been mailed out to existing season ticket holders and put on the club website so we are able to compare early bird prices with the increases and make a decision regarding affordability and when to purchase. Consideration is not being given to supporters by having the early bird prices expiring in April as previously it has always been by the end of May, and no new prices available. If Hilton wants to upset loyal supporters he is certainly going the right way about it.
We won 4 – 1, played reasonably well. What did Jimmy Dean do? He brought in two new midfielders, Rance already carrying an injury apparently and Thomson a youngster learning his trade and in my opinion not as good as Whitehouse. He also dropped Butterfield who was starting to control the midfield with Shrimpton by his side. Now we can’t even score a goal, not in five matches. I hope Whitehouse comes back but not sure if he is just on loan or not. No.wonder the players aren’t playing for him. He is a totally clueless manager. You only need to listen to him on the radio to know that. I can’t make head nor tail of what he says. He should be gone.

GO GO GO!!!!!!
No wonder so few of the 1899 have been sold. You can’t buy into something that is not yet owned by Hilton. Swann still owns the stadium and surrounding land. To be a success it should have been announced once everything is fully signed over. That is the stadium, car park znd surrounding land. Even then I wouldn’t buy into it because we have no idea what will happen once he has paid Swann off, that is also if he pays Swann off.

I agree Sharp Shooter. We too would rather support a phoenix club run by people like Simon and Ian who love SUFC. than what Hilton has planned. Our supporters support our Club and our Club should support our town, not support Ilkeston Town over 70 miles away. He is also taking money away from our town, making redundancies and staff losing their jobs. This will cause a knock on effect financially with food outlets and accommodation as players will be renting accommodation at Ilkeston rather than at Scunthorpe. What makes Hilton think all our players will live around Ilkeston. I feel its excuses and not reasons that he is giving for what he intends.

Why invite the panel to look around the facilities at Ilkeston and why could he not have attended the podcast at SUFC. Ilkeston facilities will not make a blind bit of difference to how we will play on a matchday, in fact it will in my opinion disassociate our Club from our town and supporters. I wish we had gone down the route of a Scunthorpe United phoenix club owned by Simon and Ian, staunch fans who have our Club at heart, not another property developer.

We would definitely rather have and support a phoenix club based in Scunthorpe than a club based at Ilkeston.

Totally agree Rene. Simon and Ian are the two to have taken over our Club. They could have bought our Club, the same as Hilton has done. They were told it had all to be sold as one, the club name, stadium and land. Hilton still hasn’t bought the stadium and land. It appears Swann is still pulling the strings.

We’re very nervous now regarding buying season tickets. Thought it was a two way thing, benefiting fans and club. Gets money in for the club during the summer and allows loyal fans who like to keep their seats, which they have probably sat in for years. There can’t be hardly any chairman don’t want to sell season tickets. Let’s all buy them and tell him to shove Ilkeston. I’m sick of him speaking the word Ilkeston, we are SUFC. If he can’t move on from them he should have stayed there. Swann still owns everything bar our Club name. If Swann had suggested moving training away from our ground there would have been uproar. Still no mention of improvements to Glanford Park which are needed and still just the talk of buildings going up around our stadium on the car parks and training pitch. Just tell me what’s changed to the benefit of our Club. In my opinion nothing. No academy, no car parking and no training at GP. Just buildings going up on our club’s land and I fear everything will eventually be moved to Ilkeston.

All of our training facilities have been fine previously and that is including when we were promoted to division one and also twice to the Championship. I think Hiltons motives are very questionable. Couldn’t believe the number of times he kept saying ILKESTON in his statement. We are not Ilkeston Town and do not wish to be, we are Scunthorpe United FC and I am sure most of our supporters do not wish to be connected to them. If he takes our Club away from our town he will lose a lot of the fan base. We are now feeling hesitant at renewing our season tickets and feel the club could be taken away from us.

I agree awaywego. Chris Mumby is Club secretary so he should be capable of running the day to day workings of our Club. Don Rowing and David Beeby were Club Secretaries and they managed fine without a chief operating officer. That was a role invented by the SWANN. I think perhaps Lee could possibly go back to a scouting role. I guess that depends upon what Jimmy Dean thinks too.
Glad she has gone, one of Swann’s crew. She was responsible for cutting the matchday programme etc. She won’t be missed!!!!

Lee Turnbull should not be left as CEO at our Club as I do not believe he has the knowledge or skills to run the administration of our Club.
Lets face it all he done recently is exactly as he has been directed to do, a puppet, anyone could hsve done that. Neither does he have the communicating skills to communicate successfully with our supporters. If David Hilton wishes him to stay could his role be Club Scout?

Yes let’s have all the stay-aways back on Saturday. I’m beginning to get the excitement and enthuiasm back for looking forward to Saturday’s match. This has been missing during the last three seasons whilst we have been watching The Iron. Onwards and upwards!!!!

That’s a good point Desertiron and one worth looking into. I know we are clutching at straws to try and save our Club but you never know.
At the last forum which Lee Turnbull organised why was Tony Gosling, Chairman of the Trust, chairing the meeting.
Chairman usually are impartial if the meeting is held by different groups ie: club and supporters.
Surely on the night the Trust Chairman should have been speaking for its members on the night and asking questions, not being impartial.2 users thanked author for this post.
A sports legislator for football clubs is certainly required but it may be too late for our beloved Scunthorpe United.
This will affect generations of families if our Club goes into extinction.
All this because of one person alone, SWANN.1 user thanked author for this post.
Is it legal not to pay HMRC whilst gambling money away and not paying staff members wages.
Maybe it’s legal but it’s certainly obscene.

The time for politics is over
Are there any more Trust members on here who will join the committee?
It’s too late now and we’re definitely going to drop down another league. Swann has made Fenty look like the good guy at Grimsby Town compared to himself.
The problem with the sale has been that Swann never put an asking price on the sale of our Club which says to me he has no intention of selling and its all been planned ever since he took our Club and assets and transferred then to his own company Coolsilk. What an abhorrence. He made sure it was done legally, or was it?Surely the FA, the EFL and the National League should be going through this and checking everything out with a fine toothcomb.
According to Gainsborough Trinity he left them debt free when they refused a new ground build which he wanted. But why then is he trying to wring every last penny out of our beloved Scunthorpe United. Is there vindictiveness in what he is doing? And if he is still planning to build flats and houses I can’t see that happening as you wouldn’t imagine any other business people would go within a mile of him now after his name is all over the media.
You wouldn’t think his planning application would still go through neither as the work if started would most probably never be finished and end up derelict.I will be a willing member of the Iron Trust Committe if someone will 1st and 2nd me.
I think there should be a meeting and a new committee and chairman elected. Time for a clearout@
