In my opinion he has played well in our last two home games and also think he is a good captain. Now our full backs are getting forward much more I think it benefits the whole team.
I agree a simpler system. For a start do away with this three central defenders. It isn’t working as they are getting in one another’s way and it’s causing confusion. Totally unnecessary, put another into attacking midfield. Could play with two wingers, Roberts one one wing and Scales on the other. Beeston and Clunan in midfield and Whitehall and Fishburn up front. I don’t believe Fishburn should have been dropped today, man of the match on Tuesday and gave much more effort than Whitehall. But we have Andy Butler as Manager who in my opinion is far too stubborn to change anything. You know when he brings Boyce on as centre forward we have lost.

The form of the whole team has dropped drastically in my opinion due to the defensive line-up which Butler insists on putting out every match. This is why the opposition is now looking better than we are. His stubbornness will eventually affect the gates and cost our Club dearly in support and money. Supporters tend to always direct their anger towards one player but Clunan is definitely not to blame. Last season when he couldn’t play due to injury he was badly missed and has been awarded many man-of-the-match awards. The system is not suiting our players. Beeston has done okay as a striker but I feel we are now missing his presence in midfield to play alongside Clunan, who Butler should be playing further forward and not just in front of our five defenders. We are in fact playing six in defence , so how can we attack successfully with this defensive system.

Totally agree BarnardFoxtonBarker about Nicholson. Watching him for the first games I thought he is going to be a good signing but he now looks ineffective and his form has dropped. I think the cause of this is down to Butler insisting on playing with three centre-backs which are not needed. He also insists on playing Clunan in a defensive mid-field role just in front of the defenders. THATS SIX IN DEFENCE. This has also weakened our midfield which is virtually non-existent. I think Scales form has dropped too due to this defensive set-up. Now teams have figured out our system it is so easy for them to attack us and then to sit back as our three centre-backs insist on playing ring a roses with the ball backwards and forwards. This has now got so frustrating to watch and now the system is an embarrassment. The only way this system would work is if we had two natural wing-backs with pace to carry the ball forward and cross it into the box. You can’t sho-horn players into what you want them to be. We lost Ogle the only player who could carry that attacking role. Andy Butler needs a serious re-think as in my opinion the form of many of our players has dropped due to his defensive formation. How can we attack well with a majority of defenders on the pitch.
Many teams also come and play just one striker up top. So why AB do we need five at the back?

Thanks Awaywego everything’s fine now after a few sad months. Thankyou for asking. Just wish the football was more enjoyable at present, but I don’t think it will improve until Andy Butler abandons this defensive line-up. I think the form of many of our players has dropped because of it.
We fans are playing our part in supporting our Club but my patience with Andy Butler and his after match interviews is now running out. He accepts no responsibility for yesterday’s result but in my opinion it was solely his doing that cost us the win. He says he is not willing to change the system that worked. Well Andy playing SIX DEFENDERS, that includes him insisting playing Michael Clinan so deep just in front of the three centre backs, IT ISNT WORKING NOW. Teams and their managers have realised we are a defensive team playing not to lose and come to attack us at the Attis. Yesterday we were an embarrassment and I am sure our players must be feeling disillusioned too. ITS SIMPLY NOT WORKING.

Michael Clunan is not the problem. In my opinion and the opinion of many many other fans who were at the match yesterday, the main problem is the system that Andy Butler is insisting on our team playing. We have five defenders plus he insists on Clunan playing just in front of the back five. That’s SIX DEFENDERS playing a bottom of the table side at home. Clunan should be allowed to play further forward which we have seen he is capable of and can pass the ball. He and many of our players must be frustrated too by Butlers approach to the games. Don’t forget he was man of the match nit so long ago. How can we play attacking football with so many playing in defence. The recent bad results are the fault of Butler in my opinion, who is refusing to change anything. His substitutions yesterday were ridiculous and cost us the win. We can’t expect Roberts to do it on his own every match. The midfield is supposed to be the engine room but ours is non-existent due to Butlers defensive tactics and attitude. I can’t believe he has had his contract extended now, and should not have been done until seeing how we were placed by Christmas. There will be many fans not willing to watch these defensive displays which aren’t working and not getting the results. We made Oxford look good, not being disrespectful to them, in fact they were the best team on the day.

Yes I’m having the same issue. Have paid for the package but no link available on our match. Can you tell me what to do to get a refund.
Just checked on SUFC website. The time for the draw is from 3.15pm tomorrow. Just downloaded the talkSPORT2 app onto my mobile.
I know the draw for the net round is on talkSPORT2 tomorrow. Can anyone tell me what time please?
Awaywego spennysupporter wasn’t
spouting rubbish, he was asking questions and even said if we were collecting then he would have organised collections on their coaches to help our Club. Supporters like him deserve respect.Just a word to spennysupporters. Just ignore what Awaywego had to say to you. Your club means as much to you and your fans who travelled on Tuesday to support your team. Yes you are a much smaller club but that does not excuse him being so disrespectful to you and your fans. Best wishes for the rest of the season and thank you for travelling to Glanford Park.
Hi Spennysupporters good news for you the match is definitely on next Tuesday at Glanford Park. Great news for our supporters and we are in negotiations with Peter Swann to buy our stadium.
Totally agree Deereyme66, I don’t like the title of this thread and feel it should be changed. We need to show respect to Peter Swann for allowing us to play our next two home matches at GP and for facilitating ongoing negotiations for our ownership of the stadium. This is excellent news for our supporters, the team, manager and staff. Can’t wait now for next Tuesday v Spennymoor. There fans will be glad too.
Thank you Peter Swann.2 users thanked author for this post.
Yes we chose to buy season tickets and that is not the issue we have. The issue is that away supporters are having more information regarding what is happening with our hometown clubs fixtures than our own supporters. It’s embarrassing.
Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, and you are certainly good at it Awaywego. Our hobby and supporting Scunthorpe United is a large part of our lives. Being in our 70’s now and my husband nearer 80 and disabled means to go to Gainsborough he would have to have a guaranteed seat. I take offence at your sarcastic remarks.
I’m living in hope that we can fulfill our home fixtures. Put it this way if we can’t then there won’t be any away games to go to. In fairness to all our supporters we need to know if negotiations to remain at GP are on-going or if they have broken down. Several season ticket holders we know are saying they won’t be able to travel to Gainsborough, if that is what is going to happen. Its the waiting and not knowing that takes its toll.
Surely if Spennymoor know why should our supporters be kept in the dark about everything. All we are asking for is an update if our next match is to be played and where St. I would have thought the NLN would need notification of this very very soon.
The JuryeffsOut in reply, its definitely not good when we have to find out anything at all about what is going on with our own Club. In fact I find it to be very disrespectful of our supporters and quite disgraceful.
Thanks for that. We hope to see you at Glanford Park a week today. If you hear any more news glad if you will let us know. Same here. We supporters need to stick together and support one another in times like this.
Awaywego is right. If the match goes ahead you must try our burgers, which are the best I have tasted. They are £5 but worth every penny. Also if you don’t like lamb the steak pies are great too. All home-made food by the Smokin’ Goat local food restauranters.
Please wish us good luck with our football club SUFC continuing to exist!!!!!!!Hi spennysupporters. We Scunthorpe United supporters are as much in the dark as you at Spennymoor as to whether our match, which is only just a week away, is to go ahead or not. No information has been given to our fans whatsoever, in fact deadly silence from our directors since our last home match. You seem to have more information than we do. This is really bad for both sets of supporters as we all love our clubs and our football. I hope we get some news today and that it is good news and that you will be travelling to Glanford Park for the match.
We, SUFC, are in a very precarious situation.SODIron, I totally agree with your statement. We supporters do need to be kept informed of the future plans particularly as we are only just a week away from our next home match. We love our football club and like so many others have committed to it by purchasing match and season tickets, and look forward very much to supporting our team at upcoming matches.
It is more than just a hobby to which we are devoted. All we are asking for is an update on negotiations.1 user thanked author for this post.
In reply IronIronIron, but just to keep fans informed if negotiations are still ongoing would be good as we are only just over a week away from what should be our next home game, which will have to be played somewhere.
You’re absolutely right IB. To me it doesnt make sense moving to Gainsborough Trinity anyway.
We won’t make any gate money, nothing from catering, sponsorship or hospitality. To top it all many of our fans will be unable to travel to Gainsborough some of them season ticket holders.
Are we in any discussions with Swann regarding renting GP? If not why not? Apparently Hilton has only even paying Swann 7p for the rent. Unbelievable. Why the sudden decision from the directors to move almost immediately from GP? As usual it feels like us fans are kept in the dark by directors.
We SUFC supporters are amazing and our Club must be saved. The premiership could and should be helping us lower clubs to survive. I say shame on them if they don’t.
I hope the Unity Walk is a great success and we want to join it.1 user thanked author for this post.
It’s down to all of us Awaywego, ONE-FOR-ALL, ALL-FOR-ONE. We are already members of our Iron Trust who I am sure they are doing as much as they possibly can, many of them life-long supporters. It has been good to see our Chairman Tony Gosling in the spotlight on TV and being interviewed by the media in Scunthorpe Town centre.
If we all stick and work together as one I am sure we will succeed to save our Club.2 users thanked author for this post.
What a lovely poem and oh so true. This was typical of our Nigel Adkins too. Thankyou for posting this.
We’ve just donated. Just think if we could keep this going and reach a figure enough to tempt Swann to let us keep our stadium, and we supporters run our Club like Lincoln City did with their club.
Yes I don’t see why The Iron Trust shouldn’t get involved and try speaking to Swann, you never know what can happen surely it’s worth a try. Hilton should be gone as I don’t see anyone wanting to negotiate with him.
Yes I have friends who work there and I imagine they are feeling very worried at this time. Wonder how Jimmy Dean and our players are feeling too.
