The negatives –
After Whitehall went off the ball started coming back towards our goal with more regularity, our hold up play became none existent, he may frustrate but that is one of Whitehall’s strengths holding up and bringing the supporting players into play. If taking off Whitehall was to get Ubaezuonu on, they are two different types of player.
Just because we have 5 substitutes available doesn’t mean we have to make all five. I know it is all about ‘player load according to the GPS’ and we have two games in 72 hours but did we really need all 5 today? The squad has been slimed down so the players know that they will be getting game time so keeping them happy shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Which player expects to be playing all 46 games in this modern age? If we do need to make 5 substitutions, do they need to be made in 5 different occasions surely they can be done in 2 or 3 times (baring injuries).
The 3-5-2 formation promises so much but we are slowly turning it into a 5-3-1-1, inviting teams to attack in the last period of the game. The wing backs need to be encouraged to be available for the full 90 and attack teams using the fact that we are one of the fittest full time teams in the division. If the wing backs are encouraged to bob on and put the balls in the box regularly the we will win more than we lose.
The positives –
We are after 4 games top of the league, have 10 points, have conceded one goal in 360 minutes and scored, the majority of us would have taken that before the season started. Irrespective of who we have played (and we can only play who is in front of us), would we have got 10 points this time last season?
We do look fitter and sharper but I don’t think we have got out of second gear and are still finding our way. When we do hit top gear we will be a force to be reckoned with.
It will be interesting to see where we are before we break for the qualifying round of the cup but if we have mirrored the first 4 games with the next 4 then we’ll be on track.

Pretty much agree with all of the above.
He did his primary job of defending well enough but when we was needed to to be an extra attacking option, he got to the final third but the final ball wasn’t good enough. If we need the full backs to support and supplement the wide attacking player then the final ball should produce a better output.
Saying that he was one of those players that gave you at least 7 out of 10 each week.

I don’t think, as much as we want them too, The Athletic will publish their follow up piece on Hilton. The story has moved on.
The only way they will is if he rears his head above the parapet again and take another stab at football chairmanship somewhere else.
You never know but I would like to say that ship has sailed (unfortunately as I bet the follow up piece would have been an interesting read).
I’m trying too, why advertise if you are not showing it from the start?
If a customer is without video images for more than thirty percent (30%) of a game, customers who have indicated they are a supporter if an affected team will receive a full refund.
So I guess we wait until the 27th minute or 8.12pm until we get the refund
Darlington tonight were everything that we weren’t
Resolute in defence, hunting in 2’s and 3’s, swift in attack with direct forward passing and not afraid to put it into the box or shoot.
Stop the tippy tappy lateral rubbish as that just allows the opposition to sit 11 men behind the ball.

E for me just a shame that 1899 – 2024 is missing but they have said minor tweaks could be made
If that happens would there be another crowd funding effort on behalf of Stuart to raise the money to help him pay the tax?
It will become a never-ending spiral
Must be part of the ‘999 years lease’ that ‘protects the club’
October 17, 2023 at 4:12 pm in reply to: Traditional football message boards Vs Facebook groups #275493I find on here, you can have quite an interesting debate. You might not agree with others and others might not agree with you but you are allowed to voice our opinion in our club without the threat of your post being removed, just as long as you stick to the rules (which to be honest shouldn’t be to hard).
On the Facebook site especially during the Hilton era, if your post didn’t suit that days narrative it was removed without warning, although I did think some of the posts were comedic and obviously taking the mic of the members of the Facebook group that took everything as gospel.
I think what owners/chairman(women) of football clubs and supporters of their regime don’t like is when faceless individuals critique the way they conduct their business and the way that they run the football club (they forget that just because their name is above the door, it doesn’t make it theirs. They are custodians and without the fans/supporters the football club would disappear). As long as that criticism is constructive, truthful and non-libellous then I don’t see the problem. Their problem is that they can’t bully that person into being quiet when they probably are used to that happening.

The only value Glanford Park and the surrounding land has is to the football club and its supporters. I think that Swann will see Hilton leaving as one more obstacle in selling to the highest bidder out of the way.
It would be good if the Iron Trust or even the council could raise the money somehow to buy it (I think we have gone past the point of ransom strips etc) and then go from there.
So in the North region at the time of the draw the number 1 rated team will play the number 2 rated team.
Unless there is a more romantic tie the BBC should be showing this on the Red Button

If it wasn’t then has a certain someone just transferred one asset that one of his companies owned to another of his companies?
Another question was the debt even £11 million or just an inflated figure to ‘justify’ the movement of the asset?
One of the positives about being in the non leagues is the commentary being available via the BBC Sport website. Apart from the technical issues (other clubs not having ISDN facilities at this level for example) the match commentary should be available for all our league games this season.
I don’t know what commentary will be available for the FA Cup and the FA Trophy games due to different broadcasting rights being agreed.
Curzon Ashton will be fun then
Ironfromafar, there are many ways but the way that I do it is through my laptop (log on via a VPN coming from a non UK country if you want to get around the UEFA Article 48 regulation not that I would encourage anyone to disrespect any UEFA regulation).
Buy the game via http://www.nationalleaguetv.com and connect your laptop to your brand spanking new TV via an HDMI cable (I am assuming that both the laptop and the TV have an HDMI port).
I am also assuming that as it is on the SUFC website that the National League TV service will start broadcasting our games from the National League North.

I have a feeling that we will be selling out our allocation many more times this season.

As much as I agree or disagree with any poster on here the beauty of a forum is that anyone can post. PS or DH or anyone can post what ever they want (within the rules). If you or I don’t agree with their comments then you or I can either comment back (as long as the rules are followed) or just not waste time in engaging.
I think we should be grateful that we have this facility and also appreciate the cost (in both time and money) that it takes to keep it up and running. At one point last week I was worried that the Bru would be no more.
Hopefully we can move on from this period with a greater positivity from all.
I thought the whole purpose of pre-season was to –
a. Gel and integrate new signings into the culture of their new team
b. Work on fitness and avoid injury
c. Work on systems, new formations, trying different players within the new formations
d. Work on attacking and defending set piece routines
e. Learn from mistakes
And bring all the above together by playing games against opposition who are also trying the above in their own way.I would much rather the management team and players be doing all the above than smashing whatever team they are playing 10-0. As much as it is nice winning 7,8,9,10,11-0 do you learn anything from that? (yes we can score goals but as a contest it’s potentially over as soon as the third goal goes in).
We saw last season that you cant just chuck 10+ players into a team and expect them to come up with the goods, it takes time. And that is the beauty of pre season. There should be nothing on the results I’m more bothered about staying free from injury, creating a starting 11 with 5 subs who can slot in when/where required and have a sub set of players who can interchange with the 16 matchday players when/where required and the whole squad knowing what their role and what is expected of them when they are playing.Save the performances and results for when they really matter starting on the 5th of August.

I was thinking the same. I must admit the car will be getting used a lot more this season (as I live away from Scunthorpe).
I wonder if there will be a greater demand in a supporters coach than there was last season?
There you go, knock yourself out, have a look (I’m not wasting my time)

Normally its so the buying club are not criticised for paying what would be seen by some as too higher fee or the selling club selling at too lower fee.
I just hope we have structured a few add-ons (first team appearances, Hulls potential promotion to the Premier League etc etc).
Nothing yet, I would assume as soon as the fixtures come out there might be some or when the flurry of signings that happen after the 1st of July when players are out of contract and free to sign for anyone.
You never know, the way we’re going signing players and with Messi being free the odds may change.
Like McAtee before him Hurst seems to get the best out of him.
Can go missing at times but be frustratingly good (was going to say brilliant but good will do) and create something out of nothing, saying that he only has one trick of note (which is to cut inside) and like the modern winger doesn’t seem to get anywhere near the by-line to cross it in to the box.
Apparently you have to be careful of his twanging hamstring, it must be something that he contracted at Bradford City as there was little evidence of that here, the odd niggle but no major injury concerns. The odds will probably be available after the fixtures come out.
Some do some don’t. Peterborough Sports did last year, Alfreton Town and Farsley Celtic didn’t. I suppose weighing up the need (shirt sales with name and number) vs the costs involved (we used 47 players last year x 3 shirts, that’s quite a number of shirts vs 1-16) especially if your club is on a tight budget.
Sorry for the long post (and I think I am using it as therapy session) but all I can say is that Rome wasn’t built in a day, especially when the previous Rome was all but destroyed because of the previous Emperor’s family decided to let it all fall to wrack and ruin when they couldn’t get their own way (too many instances to mention but we all history and examples).
Personally, I work in the world of I.T. where mistakes do happen, but they are reviewed and learned from so they are not made again in the future so I am looking at the current situation using that view. Even in this world updates take a while to design, develop, test and install and continuous improvement is always happening behind the scenes of the end user.
I suppose it is the adage, the proof will be in the eating. Thankfully we all have a club to support at a level where we should be one of the bigger clubs, but that will provide its own pressures so the new potential first team players should be recruited with that in mind and not only be good enough to perform at this level but also handle the pressures and expectation, not just from the other sides in the division but also the (hopefully) 3000+ home support.
But we must cut our cloth accordingly. If we can only spend what budget, we have then we only spend what we have. Gone are the days of gambling to get into the Championship at all costs, paying stupid inflated wages to crap players who should never have worn the claret and blue shirt but because we have recruited late that is all that are available and the sacking of managers left, right and centre on a whim. We need (and using another I.T. reference) a stable platform for the new update to perform successfully.
Hopefully we only spend a season in the NLN and the get into the FL as soon as we can after that. Easier said than done, if we look at Wrexham they needed (and I will quote someone else) ‘a cheat code’ to get out of the National League after 15 seasons, even then the ‘cheat code’ didn’t work in the first season it was deployed, just so long as we don’t turn into some of the obnoxiousness that some of their fanbase portray (they should be scoring 100+ goals and getting 100+ points using League 1 players in the National League).
The biggest downside is that several local players won’t be able to display their talents in our academies, but would we have seen the likes of O’Malley, Beestin, Pugh, Shrimpton, Wilson, Foster and Gallimore if we were not forced into doing so to plug the gaps because the funds ran out? I would hate to think that their development as players has been harmed because of this, with luck they all have long careers at our club, I just hope that in the next decade we have another 7+ players in our teams that we can say ‘they are one of our own’.
We all have our opinions and that is what makes football great but as in our name we can all stand United and look towards a brighter future.

Yes Barrow have a recall period after the first 28 days so I guess we will know after the York game
Prepping for next season? A ‘try before you buy’?
Although he is still under contract for next season at Barrow
Thanks for that. I’m just wondering with all the players that could potentially go out on loan, after the three earlier will they be playing for a contract here or elsewhere.
I know there should be no sentiment in football but we should be developing our own as well as buying in quality.
I suppose if they were good enough we wouldn’t be in the position that we are in but there are other factors beyond their control.
