The u23’s takes up alot of the budget just to play 18 or so games a season, but on the plus side it gives injured players a chance to play a reasonable standard of football before getting put back into the first team.
It is a luxury we just can’t afford at this present time and I think we will try and go down the friendly games route to give injured players a chance to play.
It will hopefully also give the academy some more funds to bring on the u18’s as these players look like they will be a big part of next seasons squad.
That squad has been quite successful this season with 4 players being given contracts including scunny lad Harry Lewis, Along with dawson,(if he stays)barks, shrimpton, jessop and silva from last season plus Pugh and hornshaw from 2 seasons these youngsters should I believe be given a chance early on in preseason to see what they can do.1 user thanked author for this post.
Russ is a great bloke and been a great servant to this club! But as I was saying to my nephew the other day about Paul Warne at Rotherham sometimes you just can’t take a club any further.
Russ has IMO done his best for the club, always been fully committed even after getting the sack but it is now time for younger coaches who are more in touch with the modern game.
Good luck in your future where ever that my be Russ if this post is true7 users thanked author for this post.
Wasn’t it Russell slade that was in charge the first time they got relegated.
Think he is the first manager to be promoted from and then relegated to the national league! Although Holloway is to blame for this relegation.
I can only thank god that Grimsby didn’t appoint him sooner else it would be us going down! I’am not a bitter scunny fan and hope they come straight back, I know we are not mathematically safe so not saying to much just yet
It needs a clear out of the coaches if Swann thinks cox is the man he wants to move this club forward, we need younger forward thinking coaches that work at all levels from academy to the first team.
Unfortunately I believe mark lillis and russ wilcox are just not on the forward thinking enough
They are great people but If you look at all the teams that doing well in the league they have recently retired or younger managers and coaches that are more in touch with modern football.I’am in despair just can’t believe how poor we have become! We are so easy to play against even with 3 centre backs we still can’t defend.
Can’t see us scoring again let alone win any points, said this before when do you say the manager just isn’t capable of doing the job he is payed to do
It’s two seasons ago all over again! needing 1 point from 8games to stay in league 1 and we lost them all as I write this Grimsby are losing but it is papering over the cracks.
If we do survive this has to be the biggest wake up call imaginable meaning something has to change! My heart is telling me we will be ok but now my head is saying shit we are deep trouble.
Built a wall mate! I feel so totally embarrassed by this that I can’t justify the cost of a season ticket any more!

That was the most embarrassing and utterly spineless performance I have ever seen whilst supporting Scunthorpe United!!!!!!!!!! I cannot believe any group of so called professional footballers can honestly receive their pay after that game.
I would be totally embarrassed to even show my face anywhere near the club after that! It is total shambles from top to bottom with a rotten core that is slowly festering and destroying the club I love.
All the out of contract players should be payed off now and told don’t bother coming back, I can’t understand why you take a young player who is getting rave reviews then to sit him on the bench for the whole game while Eisa plays 90 mins and can’t even be bothered to run after a 36 year old allowing him a free shot whilst scoring their second goal.
I was right behind cox but tonight he showed a total lack of any football knowledge and tactics, and I now believe the players are not the only ones that need to go! We need a total new start with all new coaches as well.
Don’t know what game he was watching but to take off the only outfield player that was really busting a gut in Karacan was unbelievable and that has just cost us the one decent player we had a chance of signing for next season.
I will now but my £300-00 into a local non league club where the players actually want to play for the club and the shirt, I refereed a local veterans league game on Sunday! In it there were 50 year old men showing more heart, sole, pride and passion about the game then 90 percent of the useless ,lazy, overpaid, underworked, spineless bunch of wasters on show in Mansfield tonight.
TIME TO ACT MR SWANN! NO MORE EXCUSES ABOUT COVID AND IF YOU CANNOT THEN ITS TIME YOU WENT TOO AND LET SOMEONE HAVE OUR CLUB THAT CAN BEFORE WE SLIP INTO ABYSS THAT IS NON LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
LUCKILY SOUTHEND AND GRIMSBY ARE WORSE THEN US WHICH IS A BLOODY MIRACLE ELSE WE WOULD BE ALREADY GETTING READY FOR TRIPS TO DOVER, HALIFAX , SUTTON UTD ,ETC,ETC.

Dunwald-turan on a 2 year contract so it would cost us money to get rid unless he decides to return to Germany to play.
Swann has already said van veen, mcgahay, eisa gillead have all had the contract extensions removed from the table so they are definitely going.Great point today and the under scrutiny players put in a shift, But also I have not seen a team (tranmere) that was so good in the dark arts of play.
They pushed, pulled, and dragged players off the pitch in challenges and always seemed to get away with it, definitely a game we would have lost earlier this season. When will cox finally realise that loft can’t and I repeat can’t play as a lone striker! He has got all his goals this season playing as a two yet he continually plays him as a lone striker.
I have said this before at least three times as well, Make teams worry about us rather then playing formations to stifle them.
Agreed with playing this way at Cambridge as they are probably the best team in league! But against Carlisle who have been struggling and have only just come off a dodgy spell him selves surely you attack them.4 users thanked author for this post.
Don’t think anyone can say it wasn’t a penalty as it was as blatant as you wil see, but dieng going down holding his face is a disgrace! This seems to be creeping into the game the slightest of touch’s to the face in a tackle players are going to around like Mike Tyson had given them an upper cut.
With Clarke looking better at centre back and only jai Rowe as a right back think we should try to sign him! But if he plays from now on and impresses i’am sure other clubs will be looking at him.
Looked at the you tube highlights and still unsure about the Kvv one! One thing that makes me say no is the reaction of Kev he doesn’t appear to claim he was fouled but it is only short highlights.
I thought it was a penalty! And to be fair to the ref he was in the perfect position to give.
He didn’t kick the player in the face?
A penalty IMO should only be given if a defender makes an attempt to play the ball, so the bebeau penalty was the one if there was contact that should have been given.
The Taft penalty was a joke! He made no attempt to challenge the player or go for the ball he just tried to shadow the player into the box when the player caught his leg against tafts. As someone else said a kick in the face surely warrants some attention from a physio! Bedeau kick was clean as the ball want straight out, Bolton’s player also ducked into the ball and was around waist height.
So what do you do allow an attacker a clear site at goal and get a bollocking from his team mates and manager or defend the box as Jacob did.Cox just said on the radio not including tonight out of the 10 penalties given against us the official reviews have said only 4 were correct, just checked the results and penalties have cost us 10 points this season how can it keep happening?
Cox and musselwhite having a right go at the ref at half time and I don’t blame them! have had some shocking referee’s and decisions against us but that was the worst referee ever.
totally one sided and he must still think Bolton are a premier league club, big club little club syndrome. We now have a full strength squad so he is playing with better players, the shape of the side is helping him as he has support in Devarn and abo instead of running around on his own.
Surely if the defender doesn’t try to engage or tackle the attacker it can’t be a penalty! March was just throwing himself all the time and I had just said the ref was buying it then he gave the penalty.
Not sure if you heard mr cox on the radio last night mate but it seems highly unlikely Alex will be with us next season, he did state they have had some conversations about a new contract but with Jordan getting injured Alex wants to concentrate on the captains role until Jordan is back.
You could tell by the way mr cox was talking that he is almost certainly resigned to Alex leaving, as he stated he had told him he wanted to play at a lot higher level.
I too would be sad to see him go (if he does) but also I believe we still haven’t seen the best of Alex yet in a scunny shirt, this season he has been playing more defensive but now we appear to have a settled defence I would like to see him attack more and take on players.1 user thanked author for this post.
Scunthorpe ‘s bus was late arriving.
Think I was on that bus mate! Was it the night game where Chris cowling scored the only goal?
Think Harrogate would want big money for jack as they would then have to replace him, having said that I would love to have him here as he is a proven goalscorer.
I referee mate! and all I can say is the ball would have been on the spot if it was me
Only forest green, Newport and Cambridge have really put us to the sword!, all the rest are average to poor we don’t need to worry about other sides just concentrate on ourselves.
Loft today was a different player with support from eisa and ran himself into the ground, I also think we saw our strongest available 11 today with Kev and Harrison probably to come into it.
We are not out of trouble yet with 1 win but I will saviour this win tonight and look forward to Tuesday night when with no injuries hope this side plays.1 user thanked author for this post.
Said that we needed to concentrate on ourselves and not the opposition after last weeks defeat! This week we did just that, played 4-4-2 gave loft some support and look what happens.
Eisa and loft where very good and IMO loft had his best game for us and never gave up, he gave pollock the run around but the whole side put in a shift
We now need to follow this up on Tuesday against port vale or today result is meaningless, so no more playing loft on his own mr cox and let’s attack sides especially at home. -
