Would Portsmouth or any other club for that matter, release there full time pros if they had racially abused the England players, we all know the answer to that, whereas they released 3 academy players, surely if any body could be educated it would be the under 18s. Double standards all round, hope the PFA step in and get them reinstated, and give a more appropriate punishment.

Depends rather on the nature of the offence.
Here is a range of 5 possibilities ranging from:-

Someone else pretends that a casual remark was heinous. Petty and trivial, even.
    Carelessness and stupidity.
    A touch of nastiness.
    Outright malice.
Intended to cause pain, hurt and damage.

Many shades in between each of the above, of course.
For me, I would agree with you, AWG, if it was a question of the first three above.
Below those I’d not be so keen to be nice.

It doesn’t take much searching in Google to find what they posted. I would expect that the enquiry established whether the posts were what they wrote.

If so they clearly fit 4 and 5 on the scale above and they deserved to be sacked. Interested to see if they bother to appeal, they have that right.

Or, rather than whataboutery and acting judge and jury you could just accept the decision of PFC, which is open to appeal after all. The nature of the group messages is more detailed here:

It’s very difficult but the messages were vile and I wouldn’t want them to represent my club. Then again, I completely agree that everyone deserves a second chance.

I felt similarly conflicted about us signing Jordan Robertson and, to a lesser extent, Tom Hopper.

No worse than what John Terry said,or Ollie Robinson, Terry got a 4 match ban, Robinson 8 match ban but with 5 suspended, both still heavily involved in their sports, hardly the same has them young lads at Portsmouth who’s career is probably over.

It’s such a shame for the game after all the work put in over the last year or so with taking the knee, the reaction of the England team in the Bulgaria match, the work by the football authorities and of course the unity of the vast majority of professional players to get the anti racism message across that these young men should behave like this, it’s very disappointing. Whether the authorities give them another chance of not it’s going to be very difficult for these young guys for a good while I’m guessing. As Ferrite states it’s not easy either way but what saddens me is the type of family environment these young guys grew up in to start thinking like this, it’s not just happened in the last two years surely?

Footballers seem to follow different rules to the rest of us, just like their managers, they can be fired and just simply move on to another club.

Ron Atkinson is a case in point. He did and said whatever he wanted as a player and manager. But when he forgot to turn the mic off as a television pundit, that was it, bang gone never to be heard from again. I doubt he could get a job as the back end of a horse of donkey in a panto.

Thank you for that, I never would have guessed. I doubt he earns a fraction of what he could back in his flash Harry days.

And yet…the odious ex-Tottenham bore who said that people born disabled were born like that because of something bad they had done in a previous life, still works for ITV.
