Let Us Assess Signings In 2020/2021.

    Howard – reasonable – 6
3 summer loans – 4.5 (Vincent raised the average a bit.)
Clarke – 6 (But only that high because of CB work.)
    Onariase – 7 Great signing
    Taft – 7 Great signing
    Jarvis – 5 In a proper team … maybe …
Hippolyte – 6 Has ability but is not a FB! Should improve.
    Beestin – 7 Good potential.
    Spence – 7 Good business.
    Brown – 6
Green – 6.5 Potential to be very good.
    Turan – ? Who knows? I suspect a 4.
Loft – 6.5 Learning. Gutsy and improving.
Karacan – 6.5 Has brought a bit of intelligence.

Spine players not much in evidence back in summer which was why our season nearly died.
Better signings made late in the day, to a certain extent.
Looking at this as a base – I do not feel that there is any case to be made for ‘appalling work in signings made’ or ‘worst team ever’ accusations.
(Yes. Astonishing that one like myself – who looks so very young – did witness the many horrors of the 70s.)

Green & Beestin arrived in the January 2020 window. Just as Hurst was getting sacked.

You’ve missed off Mooney, which is easy to do admittedly.

The problem was bringing in those four “forwards”. Only Loft has had enough game time to warrant a mark IMO. So if you believe the wages thread that’s £150k pa wasted on the three that have hardly featured.

We could have got a decent finisher for that.

Difficult to compare with the 70s as the whole structure of football has changed beyond recognition since that disastrous 74/75 season when I honestly thought I was better than some of those on the pitch.

What seems to have changed for the worse is player attitude, and that’s something you don’t know about until after they’ve signed.

You’ve a better chance of getting players with the right attitude if the manager is responsible for signing them IMO.

3 summer loans. Vincent and Cordner. Genuinely can’t remember the other one already? Says a lot.

Onarise, Taft, Spence, Beestin & Loft give us a very good spine. Hippolyte and Green have potential.

Turan, Jarvis & Mooney are the potential problems who we will need to shift. But Mooney will at least be cheap.
