Another one judged to be not good enough
May 23, 2022 at 7:48 am #237756Unbelievable the number of players we’ve let go who go on to flourish

May 23, 2022 at 8:11 am #237759As per they fail to let them mature. Kyle was doing just fine with us scoring some goals and 2/3 years to go as he grew into the No. 9 type role.
Charlie Goode – another cheap give away. Signed him on a 4 year deal and many CB’s start to deliver aged 26+ and we give him away. Northampton then sell him for a 7 figure fee and a promotion to the prem clause to Brentford. They got that as well !
Now we bring through the academy give them a 1 + 1 deal and in all honesty how many will go in our 2yr clearouts ? Squad stability seems unwanted these days and par for the course the replacements will be worse than those released – as proved over the last 3/4 seasons !

Yep three lads who we bought relatively cheaply and I presume they were not deemed good enough long term for their respective clubs. They all were absolutely brilliant for us, two of them scored shed loads of goals in a short time and were then sold on for handsome profits that enabled us to become a Championship club. Of course a certain ” amateur ” chairman was in charge at GP back then, not the professional business colossus we have currently running the show, into the ground.

But let’s not forget that they are vastly outnumbered by those we’ve released that failed to make any sort of career in football.

May 23, 2022 at 1:09 pm #237771I’m up for giving Tyrone O’Neall 6 years to prove himself. 4 goals in 13 games at Darlo better than Wootton in his early days, extend his contract before someone else taps I’m up.
May 23, 2022 at 1:15 pm #237773Notts County fans don’t seem to concerned about losing him

Is the number really that high?
Other than Matt Godden, Lyle Taylor and Charlie Goode I’m struggling to think of anyone else we “let go” who have gone on to do particularly well in the Football League.
May 24, 2022 at 12:34 am #237799Absolutely crap tonight and reminded me of the player we let go so I’m not sure I understand why he’s in demand.
This is probably his level with 10/12 ammeter sides where he can notch up his stats
May 24, 2022 at 9:13 am #237806He looked no different to the player we let go ,,,absolutely dreadful player,,,,
May 24, 2022 at 9:34 am #237808Got to admit that I had expected better last night.
But he has still scored 47 goals for Notts Co since 2019.May 24, 2022 at 10:04 am #237810Guess a player can have an off day, just wish we had a player with 47 goals scored in 3 years.
May 24, 2022 at 10:11 am #237811He scored 11 in 66 games for us, IA.
Let us not forget how many of those were in League One AND how many games was he played wide? (An exercise in futility if ever there was one.)Played as a CF – he would surely have notched better than his 1/6. Maybe up to 1/4 or better.
That would have been quite enough to have kept us up, IMHO – especially in a lower division.1 user thanked author for this post.
May 24, 2022 at 10:15 am #237812He did create 2 of their better chances. Certainly an upgrade on anyone that has played No 9 for us these last 3 seasons.
May 24, 2022 at 10:42 am #237816Forgot how many times he was playing wide. Ridiculous.

The thing with Kyle was his age and we gave all that work away before he started maturing into the role. And since we gave him away with no buy back fee in the deal how many wastes of space have the tried in that role ?

May 25, 2022 at 10:59 pm #237846Toney? Had chance to sign him.
May 25, 2022 at 11:43 pm #237847Guess a player can have an off day, just wish we had a player with 47 goals scored in 3 years.
It would have been nice if we had a team that scored 47 goals in 3 years Iron-awe.
May 26, 2022 at 9:24 am #237851Miller another one who left to soon, 13 for Walsall last season.
May 26, 2022 at 10:22 am #237852Miller? 13 goals? Surprised at that. Even in his correct position for us I couldn’t see him scoring. Didn’t seem to know what he was supposed to be doing. Bury rated him.

May 26, 2022 at 5:53 pm #237864Miller left too soon? How does that work considering he was here on loan and played the entire season??
May 26, 2022 at 6:24 pm #237867How many for us???
May 26, 2022 at 7:28 pm #237870Miller? Scored once in 15 games all season. Can’t remember if he got injured or not selected, or both. Remember him having missed numerous opportunies from close range, for numerous reasons (missed the target, fluffed his lines, got muscled off the ball etc).
May 26, 2022 at 7:43 pm #237873Isn’t that the point your trying to get across, he was just like Wootton and Godden improved when he left. And Godden scored none!
May 26, 2022 at 8:32 pm #237877Miller? Scored once in 15 games all season.
And even that stat is open to debate!
May 26, 2022 at 9:21 pm #237878Came off me hair guv!
May 28, 2022 at 11:57 am #237919Wouldn’t pick O’Neill for my Saturday league team absolutely dreadful if he is around the team next season god help us!
