Would be good for America if both pulled out because a younger candidate with fresher ideas would be better for both parties IMO. Sadly can’t see it happening but a good choice for Democrat would be Gavin Newsom, great debater full of good ideas and would certainly galvanize the country if elected. For the GOP, well not sure but there must be plenty of young contenders, maybe Nikki Haley who would deal in actual policy when speaking to the American public and not just conspiracy theories.

Snubbing Kamala Harris in this hypothetical would cause a massive headache with anger, justified or not.

Personally, I feel it’s late for changing candidates now and don’t think it will happen.

Gavin Newsom, based on his voting record, is one of the least left-leaning voters among the democrats. And the democrats in America are one of the least left-leaning liberal parties globally. He is very far from being a communist.

The reasons why bpg doesn’t like Newsom is nothing to do with communism, but his Catholicism, his views on abortion and his views on same sex marriage. He may have even worn wool and linen fabrics in one garment at some point, going against the rules of Leviticus and Deuteronomy.

I’m definitely not happy ..but I suppose I did invoke the Mods.
For those who missed it NI lamented that assassins of today aren’t as accurate as those of the 1960s so that now we have a ‘victim’ instead of having a candidate he doesn’t like murdered.

Yes I heard Farage on the BBC this morning blaming a lot of main stream media for some of this political hatred spreading, unbelievable really the hypocrisy of the guy when you consider the stuff he comes out with but the majority will realise that Farage rather like Trump loves promoting himself and not the actual genuine picture of events. As for Trump well it was a terrible thing to happen and the actions of the gunman and the failure of the security services should be publicly condemned, TBH it’s a good job the young guy with the gun couldn’t shoot properly because with that rifle and a distance of only 130 metres Trump should really be dead by now, horrendous day for freedom and democracy, the hate speakers of the political world have a lot to answer for, be careful what you say in future publicly all you politicians, whatever your political persuasion.

I didn’t realise that JI honest and I would never have thought Trump would be an assassination target, guess that’s a price you sometimes pay in a country that puts the gun above most other things in American society. As for bills Newsom response I take it you have no comment so I’m guessing you agree what he said was waffle. It was rather childish from bill to suggest what he said about California had even a modicum of truth about it.

I wasn’t referring to Newsom or California … just to Bill’s ref about Trump being taken out and that being dismissed as conspiracy theory. That was all.
Re California. I don’t think the present Governor has done anything other than a terrible job. If he were to emerge as a Biden replacement then I think his record in California would go against him.

Not really. I don’t see it in those terms. I think there are new markers and divisions in this era. I would see Gavin Newsom as a ‘progressive’ who rejects Judaeo Christian values, has some authoritarian tendencies and leans towards a globalist rather than nation state template. Some Californians seem to be voting with their feet according to the stats.

While there are issues with ‘globalism’ I am not convinced it’s this damning bugbear. Rather him than the controlling anti-globalists, be it De Santis in Florida, Trump or abroad with Orban and his state that has decayed and declined in democratic freedom. I spoke with a Hungarian not so long ago and it’s quite sad how the young are now leaving to escape Hungary, with a ‘brain drain’ occurring.
