The cost of keeping certain players and their value to the squad are not necessarily the same thing.
I would let KVV and possibly Mcgahey go along with Hallam and Bedeau.
These, I suspect, will be amongst our highest current earners and the first three have had rather too many injuries. Trouble is, of course, that McGahey is a shoo-in for the first 11.
If the first two will take 50% salary cut – would be prepared to keep them.
Clarke is an all-rounder who, we have been told, works cheap. Am undecided. If he is backup to Rowe …
How cheap is Brown? – Backup to O Malley?
Eisa can have the same lowish contract as at present. I expect him to leave.
McAtee? – We can do better.
Turan? – Pay him off!
Butroid? – The end is probably nigh. Hornshaw?
A number of the younger players will certainly be leaving.
Karacan? – A pay increase but would only keep him if we have a big CM with presence to work alongside him.
Jarvis? – Have only seen him in the crappy sides last Autumn. Dunno but is under contract, in any case.
Would re-sign Howard to fight it out with Rory.
Gilliead? – Pull out all the stops to keep him – if humanly possible.A lot of what ifs and maybes, I know.
Rory and Howard.
Rowe and O Malley.
Taft and Onariase. Clarke?
Beestin Rowe Karacan Spence
Hippo and Green
Loft and JarvisThese are the 15 whom I realistically expect will remain. Can we get 5 in to turn an ordinary, bottom 4 squad into something rather better?
Utility players could be very useful.April 17, 2021 at 4:13 pm #204909If we keep those 15, the outcome will be the same or worse than this season. It will take more than 5 to turn things round. 7 of the above are not league standard.

April 17, 2021 at 4:13 pm #204910Yes let’s get rid of our top goalscorer Eisa good move lesgeo, and keep Rory Mmm.
April 17, 2021 at 4:55 pm #204914Well, AWG, I see no prospect of Eisa remaining, in any circumstance.
I thought Rory was still under contract. Pardon me if I’m wrong about that. Rory is an improved keeper, in any case.
Buying up contracts to get rid of players will gut an already reduced budget. Consequently, I have only suggested it in one obvious instance.
Just spotted that I put Rowe in twice! Sorry there, y’all.
The thinking is that high wages combined with regular injuries is a highly debilitating combination.
This squad lacks class and having a chunk of our class on the treatment table is inadvisable.Eisa will be a loss for those 40 – 50% games in which he makes any kind of difference. Do I want to pay megabucks to keep him? – Not really. A player who varies between a 4 and an 8 is not necessarily a better option than one who is a 6.5 week in, week out.
Gilliead is proven class without a bad record for injuries. He is the only player on the books worth breaking budgets for.
We are stuck to an extent with the squad we have. I do not think sufficient change can happen to realistically alter (SI)the fact that we will be a lower bottom half side next year.
If the signings made are decent, we may not struggle but don’t expect things to suddenly improve (SI) to any great degree.
The season after – maybe. Provided we are still in L2.April 17, 2021 at 4:59 pm #204915Who I’d like to keep but will probably go:
Gillead
Eisa
Mcgahey
Howard
KaracanWho needs to go:
Turan
Jarvis
Mooney
Mcatee
Clarke
Van Veen
Dales
Olomola
Hallam
HippolyteRealistically we could be left a core of:
Watson
Onarisie
Bedeau
Taft
Rowe
O’Malley
Beestin
Hippolyte
Spence
Green
LoftApril 17, 2021 at 5:02 pm #204916Bedeau’s positioning today was dire. The penalty was infantile defending.
Olamola will obviously leave – and was another big bucks player if the blurb at the time contained any truth at all.
Mooney is only on a year, I think. Dales is just not quite there.April 17, 2021 at 6:45 pm #204926looking at that squad is really depressing Les, a lot of those remaining are simply not good enough and should not be league players.
If
we get 5 good ones in I’m still worried. Our transfer committee appears to sign duds or persistently injured players. No coincidence with the volume of injuriesApril 17, 2021 at 8:48 pm #204938or persistently injured players.
We went one better this year and signed an actual injured player (Onoraise).

April 17, 2021 at 9:47 pm #204941Who when he has played as been one of the best.
April 17, 2021 at 10:54 pm #204947The point been, when he’s been fit to play.
April 18, 2021 at 12:51 am #204950McGahey is moving anyway, Cox said the other day his contract offer has been withdrawn as it’s been on the table and he hasn’t signed it…same as Van Veen and Eisa.
Gillead and McAtee will both be off. Only player we’d maybe re-sign is Karacan and build around him but even that’s a big ask. Bedeau will be off as well.
Dales and Butroid will be off. Turan will hopefully piss off and Jarvis will probably stick around, as who the hell will want him ?
We’ll most certainly have a blank canvas come next season.
April 18, 2021 at 5:33 am #204951I think Jarvis is probably lightweight but to be fair to the lad – expecting a youngster to lift a team which was as bad as ours was last Autumn is just unreasonable. He might well be decentish – we do not honestly know.
We have seen two distinct versions of Loft – the guy played up front on his own whose game goes to pieces whenever surrounded permanently by four defenders and then there is the interesting player in there who can score, shoot and put himself about when in a proper system. A good forward alongside might well transform him.
Hippo has some genuine ability but is NOT a wingback and again, in a reasonable system would be someone who can contribute – he certainly tries and I like his attitude.
These players are staying – like it or not.April 18, 2021 at 7:34 am #204953We get brief glimpses of that ability and so we are looking at a 1 in 5 ratio for a reasonable game with those players. If we don’t get the ‘system’ right they will still look non league – let’s be honest how many times has our system worked this season?
April 18, 2021 at 9:04 am #204954Who to lose?
Well, let’s start with the REAL problem.
First to go, Peter Swann.
Quickly followed by Mrs Swann, Swann junior and Swann junior junior.Don’t leave any debt behind and don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
Wish I could say it’s been a pleasure, but you know how it is.
Bye.
April 18, 2021 at 9:20 am #204955April 18, 2021 at 4:18 pm #204964Because it’s so obvious he needs to go?
Glad you agree.April 18, 2021 at 7:43 pm #204967I think Jarvis is probably lightweight but to be fair to the lad – expecting a youngster to lift a team
Jarvis is 23, soon top be 24 yrs of age. Not exactly someone who i’d call a youngster.
April 19, 2021 at 8:35 am #204971Is Howard contracted for next season? I thought he only signed until the end of the season.
April 19, 2021 at 11:20 am #204982If we want Howard, will probably be able to get him.
April 19, 2021 at 11:47 am #204985Didn’t Howard recommend Karacan? Could be we need to sign both or get neither, sign one get one cheap?
April 19, 2021 at 3:47 pm #205008Dunwald-turan on a 2 year contract so it would cost us money to get rid unless he decides to return to Germany to play.
Swann has already said van veen, mcgahay, eisa gillead have all had the contract extensions removed from the table so they are definitely going.April 19, 2021 at 4:19 pm #205014Howard will be a crucial signing for us. He makes the odd mistake but it’s not a coincidence we are conceding 3’s and 4’s again with him injured.
April 19, 2021 at 7:10 pm #205024Not so much ‘who to lose’ more like who is left !!
And not many on what I am hearing. Could be besides Beestin and O’Malley getting contract extensions the only remaining players are those with a remaining year. It really is that bad.
April 19, 2021 at 7:20 pm #205025April 20, 2021 at 8:33 am #205041Good point Mick, that goes back a few years too, doesn’t it?
