I’m sick of signing left backs… yes scunthorpe United twitter its 3 signings in 2 days… yipee… we didn’t really need a left back we need wingers/strikers/forward thinking players!!!!
What a joke

July 13, 2022 at 11:38 pm #240577Sharp Shooter, yes qw have dropped into non-league thanks to the efforts of Swann, but the reason that there is no talk of signing centre forwards is thet, it is certainly a new league, but we have played without forwards for 4 years, so there is no need to change the system as well as leagues, Scunny are very experienced at playing the 4-5-1 style, this is now deep rooted into the club, and will only change when Swann gains his liquidation of SUFC, he will then get the money he wasted back after he transferred the club ground, training pitch and other club owned land to his own company. I still wonder how he got away with such a move, but sadly there has never been any fight put up by anyone.

July 14, 2022 at 1:03 am #240580WE NEED STRIKERS ATTACKERS … ok get Butterfeild in agreed but then an absolute must is 2 forwards who come complete with pace, experience , a decent goal return / game rate and some shooting boots

July 14, 2022 at 2:58 am #240581Colin Daniel covers a multitude of positions on the pitch. This is the kind of versatility we really do need. As he can play comfortably up front there now remains one mega question.
Where is the 20 goal a season striker we shall so desperately need to make an impact?
I’d very happily take someone who can score 15 – but will settle for 12 at this point, as I feel we could consolidate a lower mid-table slot. Offer me that and I’d snatch your hands off.
As long as there are never more than three or four bodies in the treatment room at the same time – I am not too unhappy about the squad. There is evidence of balance.
(That opinion would rather depend on Butterfield being fit enough to sign, of course.)I do feel that there is now the possibility, at least, that the misery of recent seasons will not be repeated.

The only problem with that is every other professional football club in the world wants forward players with pace, experience and a decent goal return, its not like they are ten a penny.

July 14, 2022 at 10:17 am #240596I see Josh Morris is reunited with Alexander and KvV at Motherwell.
Funny how some players follow their former manager around, eh Keith?

Think its more to do with the matchday bonus of a tin of shortbread and a fresh haggis if you score that swayed the deal.

Great. We used to play Pugh at RB when he was here to cover that position, wasn’t really ideal..was it ?
We need 2 strikers with doubt. Fair enough Daniel can play there but come on…we need strikers !

July 14, 2022 at 2:40 pm #240626I obviously can’t disagree. We need Nuttall to be forced to play for his place.

July 14, 2022 at 8:13 pm #240643Never a good idea going into the season with just 1 player in any given position.
How are they going to ever produce their best knowing they’re an automatic pick game in game out ?
July 14, 2022 at 8:17 pm #240644Just cos we’ve got one striker doesn’t make him an automatic pick. We’ve started with Beestin up on his own before now.
I’d say it’s Guardiola style but it’s not quite having the same effect.July 14, 2022 at 8:24 pm #240645We’ve started with Beestin up on his own before now
Looked terribly too. I really do hope Hill drafts in a few strikers.
July 14, 2022 at 8:39 pm #240646Gainsborough trinity have signed Clayton Donaldson top scorer for York city last season… what a signing that is for their level… well done Bish!!
Meanwhile we’ve got one striker who might or might not score at national league level next season… crazy!!

Indeed an impressive signing and as you say its very worrying still all quiet on the striker front at GP.. comorm Keef get yer finger out

I reckon there’d be a fair bit of grumbling here if we’d signed Clayton Donaldson tbh.
July 15, 2022 at 9:09 am #240660At 38 he’s hardly one for the future!
July 15, 2022 at 9:59 am #240664He’ll play more minutes than Socrates did at Garforth Town!

July 15, 2022 at 1:06 pm #240673Who may have played more minutes for us this season, Hallam or 38yr old Clayton Donaldson ?
I’d probably say Donaldson.
You would have thought matt would have heard something if we were after strikers so maybe Hill is thinking of packing us with Midfielders again. I hope that’s not the case though.
Even if we play with 1 up top we still need at least 2 strikers, surely ? lol
July 15, 2022 at 2:04 pm #240682I suspect the reason Keef hasn’t tried to get him on a one year deal is that he has a mid 20s goal machine lined up that we’re offering a 3 year contract to.
July 15, 2022 at 2:23 pm #240685And then you woke up!!

July 15, 2022 at 3:07 pm #240689Left backs are cheap.
Workhorse central midfielders looking for one last deal are cheap.
Young goalkeepers looking for a few games are cheap.
Strikers who can bag you 20 a season are not cheap and are at a premium.
That’s the reason we haven’t signed any. We’re cheap.
So Hill will be able to populate the squad to an extent but then we’ll be scavenging for the scraps in terms of strikers.
Cue the late arrival of a couple of 18 or 19 year old strikers released from league clubs ‘hungry for an opportunity’ or a journeyman with nowhere else left to go.
July 15, 2022 at 4:00 pm #240698Journeymen ahead of young uns, please.
July 15, 2022 at 4:17 pm #240699Get Keef to work his magic and turn a couple of midfielders in to strikers.
July 15, 2022 at 7:21 pm #240710That’s the reason we haven’t signed any. We’re cheap
We all know that but why not even get any on trial ?. All a little old.
